The same way that vegetarians say meat substitutes taste just like the real thing?
necross20
02-22-2007, 11:54 AM
lol that's the reason I like to invite my vegetarian friends over for lunch. I give them real meat and then tell them how the substitutes are getting better and better. It's even starting to look like meat :oldrazz:
Another gay guy, yay!

Regarding the team, I guess Cassie doesn't have anything to worry about: she was surrendering before Captain America made surrendering the hip thing to do.:woot:

meh .. how else would you have ended civil war? it was either cap or ironman dying.. or surrendering.. even then law is law.. just because the hero's say so.. doesn't mean the president is going to
necross20
02-22-2007, 12:29 PM
I don't think it's beyond Tony's abilities to manipiulate the president for his own personal gain. Convincing him that the registration act turned out to be the wrong way to go shouldn't be too hard for that sack of... stuff.
spideyboy_1111
02-22-2007, 12:32 PM
maybe so, but Tony's mind would have to change first.. and i'd think his is a bit more stubborn then the US gov. and shied

I've never had tuna either, but jerky's not too bad. It hurts my jaw because it's so damn chewy, though.
Yup that's true. Could always change his mind with the prospect of money. I have him pegged as greedy. Moreso than most.
I can't see why. The man's already insanely rich--rich enough to not only run a multi-billion dollar corporation but also to build dozens of suits of armor with loads of high-tech junk that's more advanced than 99% of the rest of the civilized world could even conceive of.
I wondered how the series will work now the YA are part of The Initiative?

Are all the YA kids part of the Initiative? This was the first I had heard of this. If not all then who, if you know? I mostly like Wiccan and Hulkling if they are together.
CaptainCanada
02-22-2007, 04:54 PM
I think he's referring to The Initiative, as in, Iron Man's superhuman organization, rather than Slott's Avengers: The Initiative miniseries. Since the YA surrendered along with the rest of Captain America's forces (aside from the cast of New Avengers), they all fall under the aegis of the Initiative. They're not a band of kids, they're government-sanctioned and regulated heroes.
Of course, they're also on the cover of Slott's first issue (along with about eighty other characters), so they might pop up in brief appearances there too.

Oh, okay. Thanks. I was confused there. I thought there was an Initiative book that really focused on them or something. I don't think a quick cameo is enough for me to pick up yet another title when I get so many already. I would rather have YA in their own book.

Is it sad that I was originally going to avoid WWH, but this, combined with the creative team on the X-Men mini, make me want to get it?
Loeb and Finch are an A-list creative team for a one-shot; good to see Marvel looking out for the Young Avengers.
GOODT!MES
02-24-2007, 01:55 PM
Undecided about WWH. I love the logo, though. I'm thinking I'll pick up Annihilation and WWH once they're in paperback.
Hopefully Finch brings his Moon Knight A-Game to the YA one-shot. He's been doing way better there than he did in New Avengers.

Thats wonderful news! WWH is heating up but I think I'll wait before I get too excited. I don't really want to get a core title where Hulk just beats up Marvel heroes. I hope Loeb really tqakes the team especially Wiccan, to interesting places

Hoyski Poyski, I don't find the boys hot seeing as I don't swing that way. Kate's waaay too thin and the Lang girl (she sucks so much I don't remember her name) is too young.

im sure teddy will because well.. he has no parents... problem wise? i hope not.. i like them together... but it's a great way to bring billy's family (and brothers (which we know we will be seeing) and i really like his parents, so it'll be nice to see more of them. And I'm sure Teddy will be getting his own room... lol
Kevin

I really want some problems in their relationship. I'm fine with them together, but I also love drama.
spideyboy_1111

i'd like to see them be the drama free one...we get enough drama with the speed/patriot/kate angle as well with the vision/cassie/iron lad/kang one

And already WWH is stretching into 20+ chapters, and will balloon even more if it sells well. Never-ending events, I hate thee!
Good to learn of a YA one-shot, I guess Marvel wants to keep them in the focus until, or if, Heinberg can return. Loeb should be fine; Finch usually is too dark for superhero type stories (aside for MOON KNIGHT, which is more urban like DD so he is fitting), so I would have preferred another artist. He's an A-Lister, though. Anyway, I'll be picking it up.

Am I the only one who doesn't much care for the Cassie, Vision, Kang love triangle that will apparantly be in the 'second season'?
I'd much rather see more focus on the thing going on between Kate, Elijah and Tommy.
Speaking of Tommy he is ****ing badass. I've give him his own mini-series because he rocks so much. Although he needs a name change - Speed is just so obvious it hurts my eyes.:csad:
I mean off the top of my head I can think of better names. Like The Blur! Or Quick Kid! Mach Man! Turbo Toddler!
Okay, maybe Speed isn't so bad...
But I still think even Turbo would have been an improvement.:o

The Cajun

Again, both three love triangles are meh.
I'd say the Cassie/Vision/Kang triangle will be meh because it will be the stereotypical and boring kind.
You got Cassie the girl next door type whos oblivious to the power she has over the two boys. Then Kang who will play the role of forward man who makes his feelings known. Lastly, Vision who will sit in the corner quietly crying as he watches Kang and Cassie and probably say something like - 'she deserves a real man. what can i, a robot, offer her?' or some **** like that.
However, Tommy/Kate/Elijah interests me because its the opposite of the angst driven triangle mentioned above. You got Elijah who is too proud to admit his feelings and Tommy who makes them funningly obvious through his flirtation. Then you got a hot chick like Kate stuck in the middle.
spideyboy_1111
02-24-2007, 07:47 PM
actually i kinda think kates is the more stereotypical kind... 2 boys fighting for the girl they love... and shes just along for the ride
The Cajun
02-24-2007, 07:50 PM
I didn't say Kates triangle wasn't a stereotype. Both triangles are.
It's just that Kates will be much more fun to read and less angsty than Cassies.
If I wanna read angst I'll petition for a Pennance series.:o
spideyboy_1111
02-24-2007, 07:53 PM
i think cassies is kinda interesting because essentially she's pinning over the same man... one will just be a "good" version and the other a "bad" version.. (if you go with the theory young kang will be the leader of the YMoE...
one also must remember the iron lad armor uploaded vision as well as young kangs personality

Yeah, Kristoff Vernard was the adopted son who was infused with Doom's knowledge back when Doom was believed dead, and then join the Fan 4 during the late 90's. Had a thing for Cassie, who was the same age (meaning both should be 15 now). She still seems to have an armor fetish.

how old was kristoff and cassie then? some marvel kids age incredibly slow.... Normie Osbourne, Franklin and Valeria Richards, Cassie Lang, and Billy Connors... but others like the Power pack... kinda aged fast... the rainbow girl of the loners looks like shes 16-19
speaking of billy connors... now that he has his fathers "curse" it'd be interesting to see him take on the runaways or YA

Isn't Kristoff dead anyway?
No. Kristoff was last seen in TALES OF THE MARVEL UNIVERSE #1, circa about 1997-1998. He was hangin' out with Nathanial Richards (who was believed to be his maternal father, but this was never proven) and they were driven from Castle Doom by Stryfe or something. He hasn't been seen in 616 since. He showed up during HOM, and in MC2 as part of the Fan Five. Some also theorized that "Doom 2099" was in fact Kristoff, but that also was never proven.
how old was kristoff and cassie then? some marvel kids age incredibly slow....
Kristoff was stated as being the same age as Cassie in the 80's-90's (back when her father Ant-Man II was hired by the Four to operate Reed' machines when he was MIA). Therefore, if Cassie is 14-15 years old then Kristoff would have to be the same age, barring any magic stuff. Yeah, Marvel's inconsistant with aging kids sometimes, and Franklin Richards is the worst. He was technically born during the 60's and he's barely 10 now.
No one really gives a damn about Kristoff, but I was young and scimming the FF title then and found him to be interesting. He's plenty workable if some writers got creative.

Probably not. Having him pop up in YA would probably seem awkward as Dr. Doom rarely dealt with the Avengers, but it would complicate things. I just hate seeing characters with potential go wasted, and he has potential. He doesn't even have to be a drag on Dr. Doom himself; Victor by the end hardly considered him an heir anymore and he was attempting to forge his own path while having a mind full of Doom's memories and knowledge (as well as armor).
I'd bet half of Marvel's editorial staff don't know who he is.

Kristoff used to wear full Doom armor that allowed him to appear like a 6' adult even though he was a pre-teen when he first was taken by his Doombots and infused with Doom's knowledge. The only real difference between Kristoff's armor and Doom's is that Kristoff used to not wear the hooded cloak many times.
Heinberg could have imagined using Kristoff to headline his "Teen Masters of Evil" for tension (imagine your childhood crush leading a rival team), but that may be a stretch. Heinberg mentioned wanting such a team in his next volume, whenever he manages to write any of it.

the new vision is kinda complicated... see its a new body... the old body was destroyed by she-hulk, Iron lad essentially downloaded VISION into his armor... and the armor became sentient... it can also change its look, the reg version looks like ironlad.. but with visions colors, so it's kind of confusing... not really sure what the iron lad armor consists of ... so it could be andriod like.. who knows

There were many members, cuz the group had many incarnations. Zemo, Goliath, The Wrecking Crew, Mr. Hyde, The Fixer, Beetle, Screaming Mimi, Moonstone, Radio Active Man, the original Black Knight, basically just about everybody that was ever in the Thunderbolts.

Heinberg needs a co-writer that he can trust so he can release timely issues. Many writers seem to be tag-teaming creative duties to try to keep up with deadlines and it can work well when the pair are working well together.

thing is, this kind of thing is comercial suicide. If it takes Hitch SEVEN months to put out a monthly comic book, even if it sells 100'000 copies it's still only 10'500ish per month. Much better to get an artist who can still draw well but completes on time meaning a steady stream of say 50'000 copies per issue, but 50'000 per month. To keep employing hitch (especially when teamed with millar) is a perfect illustration of how little control and genuine business acumen marvel has these days :whatever:
If it wasn't for lazy ***** artists like hitch maybe they wouldn't have to resort to orgies of death and retcon just to shock readers into buying more books they don't want to make up the shortfall :o

Hey before Civil War, the Young Avengers had planned to go find Wanda but they also had a list of young Avengers. (Avenger offsprings and so on)

I guess they could still try to find their potentials and try to register them peacefully before Iron Fascist comes to kick their doors in. Work against the system from within and all. Kind of a useless agenda though; the newbs would still be drafted for Tony to deploy wherever he wanted.
Artistsean

Yeah, maybe they will hold off on the whole searching thing till things are back to normal.
You know, after the Initiative and WWHulk, and all that. I think that is going to be in like 5 years, hopefully only 3.
In a normal comic situation, like before the whole Civil War and House of M started, this would have been an awesome storyline. And if they weren't registered it would still be, rebels going to save potential heroes from getting signed and sending them to the rebellion.
I guess that idea could still work somehow.

If/when YA comes back...I wonder if they will continue the numbering like Astonishing X-men or will it be a new number 1 issue?

ya the books are great, i just hope someone can carry on that greatness...
i say bring on a new writer, but let Allan over see it, maybe do a story outline.. kinda like being his own editor on the comic

Quesada said a long time ago that it would be a new #1; but that was a long time ago, so who knows?

He's right ya know. I remember the only reason I got this book (I bought in on TPB a few months after the whole first arc had taken place) was because I was at the mall and had some extra cash and then I was hooked!

For serious. The obscenely long hiatus on this book has made it feel like an old title from the early 90s.
Freakin' aye.

A little more than one year since the last issue was released, but the book's schedule was so erratic in the final arc it might feel longer.

It seems to me they would have to acknowledge the passage of time. There's been the YA/Runaways mini plus their involvement in Civil War and The Initiative...

Kevin Smith got a lot of bad press with the fans for that, too. Don't know what took the guy so long to get his ducks in a row. But he's still Kevin Smith, so you can't hate him forever.

During Civil War they had all kinds of cameos as members of Cap's resistance movement. The most significant appearances since the series ended:
- Civil War: Young Avengers/Runaways; just what it sounds like; a four-part crossover starring both teams.
- Winter Soldier: Winter Kills; Patriot, Hawkeye, and Vision appear in this, and are used to great effect.
- Fallen Son: The Death of Captain America: Captain America; Patriot and Hawkeye are in this (and also the preceding chapter, in a cameo setting up their appearance here); there's a notable scene where Kate unknowingly encounters (and berates) her predecessor as Hawkeye (who's dressed up as Captain America).

I enjoyed the YA/Runaways crossover, probably more than the actual Civil War.
