The likely response you're going to get from the masses is:
Bale
Rubber suit
Like Nolan already did
Begins
... but at least now it's out of the way.

Well I don't consider myself as part of the "masses" so :
Personally I would go with a really subjectiv approach instead of trying to do an objectiv one.
- I think I wouldn't do a realistic film at all.
- I would choose someone not so famous like C.Bale. In fact I didn't find a good Bruce Wayne for me, I'd like everything M.Keaton had + the physical appearance of C.Bale or close. I'm more interested in the soul of batman I don't care that much about muscles nor intellect.
- I'm always disturbed by secondary characters so I think I would keep it minimal batman the villain and nameless people around. For example I wouldn't take Com. Gordon but I would use people from the gotham central instead. The only exceptions are Alfred and Robin (only when absolutely needed).
- Costume : I think I would choose a urban grey suit / yellow oval / cylinders belt.
-I would consider the villain as monsters, hideous people evolving in a theater/Circus society.
- and I think the titles would always be BATMAN ... with the subtitles "on leather wings" , "heart of ice" , this kind of things , in order to connote the cartoon serie .
Happy? :) Well U ask smthg ... here is the answer ; but this is purely subjectiv. This is so subjectiv that I think I wouldn't do such a film to present it in the theatres but just for me.
My 2 cents.

It was released back in 1989.

Every time I see Chris Noth as "Big' I think of Ross' rendition of Bruce Wayne. I don't know how Noth would have fared as Batman (being a bit too old for the 'Begins' thing), and his nose is rather, i dunno, prominent... but it’s close for me, very close… and not being an obvious choice, I find it more interesting.

Director: Alfred Hitchcock (Perfect for showing Batman's obsession and fanaticism. Ever seen Vertigo? Plus, he can do great action and suspense, like North by Northwest)
Cast:
Bruce Wayne/Batman: Robert Mitchum
Two-Face/ Harvey Dent: Maybe a dark-haired Sterling Hayden? If not, then, what the hell, why not Jimmy Stewart or Cary Grant? Both have the look, and both have worked well with Hitchcock.
Jim Gordon: Kirk Douglas with glasses and a mustache.
The Batman: The plot would revolve around Batman's return to Gotham and his formation of a bond with Gordon and Dent, as well as taking down the Gotham mobsters.
Duality: The sequel would feature Harvey Dent's fall from grace and transformation into Two-Face.
The third would introduce Catwoman as the classic femme fatale.

As for costuming, no rubber or vinyl. Batman's suit should be almost trenchcoat like in some ways, but padded.

 Yeah why is this thread being made? Thanks to Nolan, Batman was FINALLY done right and a good Batman movie was FINALLY made erasing that horrible Burton/Schumacher nightmare franchise.

The third would introduce Catwoman as the classic femme fatale.Well in that case... Ava Gardner.
Might I also suggest Gloria Grahame in the role of Harley?

Batman done right in 2005:up:See what I mean?
It's always the same, whether the casting is for DKR, LH, or whatever... BB fanboys are so inside the box they'd probably even cast Bale in Batman (1966)!

That's cos Bale kicked ass as Batman/Bruce Wayne but not everyone chooses Bale for Batman role I liked him way before he was cast as Batman.
Also what's wrong casting Bale in the role? You want to cast Keaton as Batman or Kilmer that's fine with me.

That's such an awesome idea. Similar to mine, but my cast would be different in that it would incorporate actors from several different decades (hey, I can dream) and I'd have The Joker in The Scarecrow's place from Begins and Dent would have Rachel's part with Catwoman also having a small part (actually, ideally, Selina would be only Selina for my film and become Catwoman at the end or later on in the series.
My film would also be ideally directed by Hitchcock and incorporate both elements of Nolan's and Burton's films, though the plot would be similar to Nolan's.
Batman / Bruce Wayne - Gregory Peck (http://www.oqdiamondm.com/hollywood/gp.jpg)
Bob Kane himself said that Bruce Wayne's inital look was based on Peck, and watching his movies, it's easy to see that Peck had the perfect dark, brooding quality needed for Bats.
Alfred Pennyworth - Sir John Gielgud (http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/3555/gielg1.jpg)
One of the finest charactor actors in the history of cinema, Gielgud would've nailed Alfred's wit as well as his devotion to Bruce in a way only he can.
Jim Gordon - Henry Fonda (http://www.henry-fonda.com/henry.jpg)
Slap a mustache on him and he's perfect. He can easily nail every aspect of Gotham's only good cop: his compassionate side, his badass side, just about everything.
The Joker - Jack Nicholson (http://www.latexmaskcentral.com/images/Archives/JackNicholsonShining_3073thumb.jpg)
And no one else. He's got the grin, the presence, the energy, everything.
Two-Face / Harvey Dent - Al Pacino (http://img45.exs.cx/img45/5583/al.jpg)
Al could nail down both sides of Den down oh so easily. A younger version of him would be my ideal Dent. He'd become Two-Face somewhere in the first film, or maybe early on in the sequel.
Catwoman / Selina Kyle - Ann-Margret (http://www.cinemasirens.com/am2.jpeg)
The Kitten With A Whip herself. She ahd the perfect look when she was younger, including the feline like physique and facial features.
Ra's Al Ghul - Christopher Lee (http://www.leninimports.com/christopher_lee_gallery_8.jpg)
The character was based on Lee in both looks and to an extent his onscreen persona. What more could you ask for? He's perfect.
Carmine "The Roman" Falcone - Marlon Brando (http://www.superchefblog.com/images/marlonbrando_godfather.png)
Personally, I'd prefer Brando as my dream choice for Rupert Thorne, but he would've also been an amazing Falcone. For my dream first Batman film, he is my pick by far.
Lucious Fox - Morgan Freeman (http://www-nlpir.nist.gov/projects/tv2003/active/topics/example.images/Morgan%20Freeman.jpg)
He simply is the character, hands down.

God, no, he wouldn't look like THAT.
The interior would basically be tights, but armored. The outside would be more of a trenchcoat while maintaining the cape look, unlike THAT monstrosity.

Yeah, that suit is dreadful.
Anyway, my suit would pretty closely resmeble the classic grey suit from the comics, which is something I've always wanted to see onscreen. It probably would have very small if any changes made to it, and would overall be pretty faithful to its original inception.

God, no, he wouldn't look like THAT.Yeah, that suit is dreadful. It was the only thing I could find on short notice that resembled a 'trench coat' Batman (though I think that's actually supposed to be a Punisher-like Batman rather than a Marlowe), as I said, it's really not my cup of tea either, but bloody‘ell, I didn't expect the Spanish Inquisition when I posted that!
