Depends on when in his life you are talking about. I think that he loves MJ now, but was in love with Gwen before she died. Gwen was a female version of himself: scientific, studious, less outgoing than Mary Jane (not shy, but not the life of the party, imo). Mary Jane is his other half. The fun loving, vivacious redhead. They are both good matches for Peter.

Gwen... I always felt that Spidey was settling when it came to MJ. Yes they both love each other but there have always been problems creeping up in the relationship. Gwen might have made a better wife, but we'll never know for sure. I still say Gwen because I'm into the classics.
