If so, who should play him?

I hope so, being a origin story Jarvis should be in the film. Who should play him, man, off the wall idea would be Bob Hoskin.

How about Michael Caine as Jarvis ;)

Make a joke or two about his last employeer being too much of a night-time person :)

I think that Bob Hoskins would work great. :)

I doubt if many people here have heard of him, but Gerard McSorley would be my first pick:

I can see Jarvis making an appearence in the film. Especially under the helm of Favreau. I just don't want people to think of him as Stark's own Alfred....

I think the most important question is whether Jarvis under the Avengers license. We couldn't get Daily Bugle in Daredevil or Rick Jones in Hulk...

Yes. And to differentiate him from Caine's Alfred, they should make movie Jarvis skinny, bald, and waaaayyyyy too proper...but in a funny/cool way. Have him make funny snide remarks to Tony's lifestyle (kinda like Jeffrey does on 'Fresh Pince of BelAire') but still show that he cares for Tony's well-being.

I'm indifferent towards his inclusion. Even though he was established as being the Stark familiy butler as part of his backstory, he never really played a major role in the Iron Man comics themselves.

The thing is that unlike Alfred with Batman/Bruce Wayne, Jarvis isn't Tony's closest confidant and helper. That's Jim Rhodes. I see Jarvis being in the movie but relegated more to comic relief than an actually essential character. Well, since comic relief is really important to the success of films, that kind of would make him essential in a different way.

How about Christopher Plummer for Jarvis?

Plummer would be good. It would make a nice change from him playing nasty characters all the time.

Well, with regards to if we'll get Jarvis or not, Jon just said on the IM site that they're thinking about it. My guess is that they want him in there but don't want him to seem like another Alfred.

Good idea! I agree.
