IT WAS ONE OF THOSE MOMENTS WHEN EVERYTHING SEEMED TO COME TOGETHER, AND 'MOTHER NATURE' HAD JUST FINISHED HER MASTERPIECE. THE SUN'S RAYS WERE MUTED BY THE LOW SCATTERED CLOUDS, DIFFUSING INTO AN ARRAY OF COLORS, RANGING FROM PURPLE, TO RED, AND EVEN YELLOW. AS WE WATCHED THE SUN SLOWLY DESCEND TOWARD THE HORIZON, THE REFLECTION CAST A WARM GLOW ON THE LAKE IN FRONT OF US, AND THE SOFT LIGHT DANCED ON THE RIPPLES IN THE WATER.
IN THE DISTANCE, TREE-COVERED HILLS WERE SLOWLY TURNED TO SILHOUETTES, WHILE THE TREES NEARBY SWAYED IN THE EVENING BREEZE, TRYING TO GRAB THE LAST FEW RAYS OF WARMTH FROM THEIR FIERY FRIEND, BEFORE IT RETIRED FOR THE NIGHT.
THE CRIMSON ORB GRADUALLY FADED INTO THE BLACKNESS, PROVIDING A PERFECT SEGWAY FOR THE DRAMATIC APPEARANCE OF THE STARS AND HALF-MOON BEHIND US. AS MY WIFE AND I SAT AND WATCHED THIS BEAUTIFUL WORK OF ART, TAKE FORM BEFORE OUR EYES, WE COULDN'T HELP BUT SMILE.

THANK YOU, BETHESDA, FOR THE EXTRA TIME YOU PUT INTO THE MASTERPIECE THAT IS 'OBLIVION. :)

Oblivion has great cinematography. Sometime you'll have to catch the view from that little outpost south of... uh, that town across from Chorrol... the one with swiss looking houses....

Over the valley. Very, very beautiful.

I THINK WE'VE SEEN JUST ABOUT EVERY ANGLE IMAGINEABLE BY NOW; WE GO OUT OF OUR WAY TO GET TO THE HIGHEST POINTS, JUST TO SEE VIEW BELOW. TRY STANDING ON TOP OF THE 'FROSTCRAG SPIRE' (WHEN IT'S NOT STORMING UP THERE :down:mad: ); I THINK THAT'S THE HIGHEST POINT IN THE ENTIRE GAME. :D:up:

I made my way up a mountain that overlooked Hammerfell. It was actually rendering Hammerfell as far as you could see.

Anyways, the town name, I can't remember. It's on the east side across the Imperial City from Chorrol. I want to say it starts with a B but maybe it doesn't./

Well I can tell you that the game is boring if you try to play it any other way beside how the devs really meant for you to play, they just give you the illusion of choice with a bunch of classes taht can't work well within the game.

Also: Don't be anything that remotely focuses on stealth, since the developers like to say you can play it that way, but in reality they treat any class that isn't combat or mage as the still born bastard child.

3 times the land or whatnot under half of the quests that Morrowind gave you. World levelling is an awesome idea but poorly implmented, the 'game' mechanics of the game are a 7/10 adn need a real rework to make an actual good game out of it. The potential is so there, but they've wrecked it at every turn with stupid decisions. If you AREN'T a direct combat class then the game isn't worth playing as such because you are rendered useless no matter how good your stats, poisons, or sneak attacks are, even when you get your Sneak attack boosted to x6, you are the most inefective peice of horrible victim of bad design choices ever.

They have fixed millions of things from Morrowind, but they've created a bunch of new equally as glarring problems with Oblivion.

At least it's easier to play.

Actually, a stealth class character with a high marksman skill is one of the most formidable and lethal combinations in the game. You get sneak attack damage multipliers for every shot as long as you're undetected. Most of the time, you can kill some of the most powerful enemies in the game with just a few well-placed arrows from a good position.

Master Chief

Yeah. I have 6x sneak attack bonus. About six arrows from a normal bow knocks anything out.

Yeah, add to that the "sniper zoom" bonus you get when you're an expert marksman and you can pretty much kill everything in the game from 20 meters away without the enemies ever knowing what hit them. Overkills aplenty.

Practically speaking, Zenien's "critique" of Oblivion only shows how much she sucks at it.

Yes I must suck because my sneak attack is useless up close and my regular attacks do nothing despite having a very high Blade skill that's well above my level range, if I wanted to shoot arrows into everything and run backwards for miles or find a little ledge all day I would have been an archer.

But that big post was mostly just venting frustration using hyperbole. Oblivion is a good 8/10 game, but it's not perfect, and if you are the 'wrong class' the game can suck. Denton has mentioned a lot of things, and I've talked with him at length about the game. Generally see some of his posts since they have touched a little on what I think needs to be fixed with world levelling.

1) Lockpicking should not scale
2) Loot tables really need to be fixed
3) Not everything in the world should scale with your level
4) NPC Stats should level at faster or slower rates depending on the type
5) Armor and equipment should not scale (just on dungeons)
6) Pay better attention to the history of the world
7) Do not scale shops equipment
8) While bi-peds and such should stat level to an extent (dependend on classes for what degree they should 'keep up') non humanoid creatures etc, should not, with the exception of dungeons. (Basically in reference to wolfs, mountain lions etc)

or

Animals outside of the dungeons should stat level to a degree after the main character has reached a certain level, to mantain realism, but a wolf should not be the same difficulty at level 0 as level 40.

9) Force stat ajustments when experience cap is reached, don't leave it up to the player for when they feel they should level up.
10) Don't force the necessity of having the best equipment as serverly as you have done in Oblivion. (But my regular arrows!: Shut it, I'm talking about the melee side of things!)

Tired, just rambling with those points as they bare a lot of scrutiny. Just some things that came to mind off the top of my head.

Then that's your problem. You're saying that a stealth class character is pretty much screwed, yet those who have actually played the game in-depth say that with the right combination of major skills, he is arguably the most lethal force in the game.

Besides, it's downright stupid for you to configure a stealth class character with skills that require him to get up close and personal in messy brawls, when in fact, your type of character needs the sneak attack damage bonus to have a good chance of survival. Ranged weapons can avail that advantage constantly, while melee weapons will, at most, give you only one shot at a successful sneak attack, after which you're on your own, stuck with stats poorly balanced to win in-your-face skirmishes.

But that big post was mostly just venting frustration using hyperbole. Oblivion is a good 8/10 game, but it's not perfect, and if you are the 'wrong class' the game can suck.

There is no such thing as a "wrong class". Your success with each class depends upon the combination of skills you configure them with. Pick skills that are contradictory instead of complimentary and you deserve to pay the price.

Besides, nobody said the game was perfect. Every title has it's flaws and so does Oblivion. But that still doesn't change the fact it's commendably excellent, one of the best next-gen games (and arguably the best true role-playing game) you can play right now.

Denton has mentioned a lot of things, and I've talked with him at length about the game. Generally see some of his posts since they have touched a little on what I think needs to be fixed with world levelling.

You meant DRT? Since when did he become a reasonable voice in game criticism?

So basically you have a problem with world-levelling. Tough luck. I still don't see how it can break or ruin the game. It's a valid complaint, yes, just not a critically significant one.

THE WORLD LEVELING IS ONLY A PROBLEM, IF YOU DON'T SPEND ADEQUATE TIME WORKING ON YOUR SKILL SETS. IF YOU TRAIN REGULARLY, GET GOOD WITH AT LEAST ONE TYPE OF WEAPON, AND LEARN TO BLOCK/PARRY, THE GAME ISN'T HARD AT ALL. HELL, EVEN LOCKPICKING IS A BREEZE, IF YOU LEARN THE PATTERNS AND QUIRKS OF THE LOCKS. 'ZENIEN'S PROBLEM IS, SHE THINKS THE 'FINAL FANTASY' GAMES ARE REAL RPG'S, WHEN THEY'RE ACTUALLY NOT. WITH THE EXCEPTION OF A FEW ODDITIES, 'OBLIVION' IS FAR AND AWAY THE BEST GAME OF IT'S GENRE.......EVER ; IF IF WERE A 'SONY' EXCLUSIVE, 'ZENIEN' WOULD SAY SO HERSELF. :o

Negativo, considering I play Dungeons and Dragons, I have a very good idea of what a real RPG is. I didn't say Lockpicking is hard (it's not) it just needs a tweak in how it works.

And your comment about getting the skills high enough falls flat relatively to how they pescribe the leveling ceilling. So you're saying I should get my skills high and not level? That's great, but it doesn't work properly when a player is so liberally able to bend the system of the game. Maybe that was their excuse for keeping world levelling the way it was, just give the players the ability to cheat the system.

Ah, but are you an assasin, and Umbra is far from a standard weapon, it's a mini quest specific weapon with a level 20 requirement. You can be unstopable with an Umbra, it's not to hard to do that at level 22.

No, dear THWIP, I do not suck at the game  I know exactly how to play well, the problem is it's not how things should logically work. Assasin just isn't a very good class is all, considering I want to play as an Assasin, and not a glorified archer sniper. Getting up close with my sneak attack should not be useless, and even after specing for that properly for ever, it is. Assasin needs a tweak, but I'll be choosing a different class anyway, or just getting bored after shooting my 50000th arrow and runing backwards while enemies with no ranged weapons follow me for miles.

So basically you have a problem with world-levelling. Tough luck. I still don't see how it can break or ruin the game. It's a valid complaint, yes, just not a critically significant one.

You should go on the Elder Scrolls board some time. Like I said though, I like the concept of world leveling, not the execution within the game, and when it defines everythign within the world, it's a bit hard to just ignore. I wouldn't play a Pen and Paper game with such an akward and unatural system in place. It just needs refinement and it would be awesome.

WRONG. YOU CAN GET UMBRA ANYTIME YOU WANT ; IN FACT WE HAPPENED UPON THE LADY CARRYING IT (AND HER EBONY ARMOR) WHEN WE WERE ONLY AT LEVEL 5 OR 6. AT THAT TIME, 'UMBRA' ONLY DID 11 PTS DAMAGE, BUT IT WAS BY FAR A BETTER WEAPON THAN ANYTHING ELSE AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME. SINCE IT LEVELS UP WITH YOU, IT'S NOW AT 29 PTS/HIT.

This game would have been better with massive sea battles.

I still say that had EA not bought out Origin Games, the Ultima series would have surpassed Oblivion. Ascension was released seven years ago and had some features that Oblivion still didn't get right.
