Anyhow, the most recent movie I have watched is Tokyo Godfathers. Great story and very fast paced. Not to mention how great it looked. The director is the same from Millennium Actress which was by far the most confusing anime movie I've ever seen. Please, someone explain to me what the hell happened there. :o

Everything. Maybe, it's just because it's a ""play within a play" movie. I don't know. I was just completely lost. Care to explain?

No ****? I think I knew that. The movie had the "play within a play" style which means you can't determine which events happened in her life and which happened in her movies.

The manga is just stills from the movie with speech, captions, etc. added.
But I have to say it is one of my favorites is Steamboy. I'm a bit biased though, as I love steampunk.

The Escaflowne movie is good and the OST is one of the best. It's part fantsy part mech. Loser girl gets magically placed on another planet to become the Wing Goddess. Falls in love, saves their world, goes back home. It's worth it though

^ But for a movie more similar to Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, or Howl's Moving Castle etc. you should try Steamboy*. It's not as dark as Akira. Actually, it's not dark at all. Which Miyazaki films have you watched by the way, Lex?
*Just recently found out that it's the most expensive animated movie made. Interesting.

I just watched Mononoke. It was ok. Not one of my favs though.

Tell me what happened to Howl's Moving Castle. The disk was messed up. :(
Howl's Moving Castle was great to watch at first, but on second viewing, I thought it dragged on. It went on for far too long. Some parts dragged on. But still, it was a good movie.
Porco Rosso was funny. Too bad you couldn't watch it. Maybe try another video shop?

Tell me what happened to Howl's Moving Castle. The disk was messed up. :(
Sophie meets Howl. Witch turns Sophie old. Sophie goes to find how to break the curse cuz she is forbidden to tell anyone. She finds How'ls castle. Gets a job as his cleaning lady. Adventures and stuffs. War is happening. More stuffs. Howl's a wimp. Turns out the whole war that was started by one of the King's people, was started just to get Howl to buck up and be a man  Countries were destroyed just so one guy would get over himself?! How many people died for that?!
It's just, Howl's character completely changed right in the middle of the film. He went from this charming young wizard to a scared old wuss who hides in his bedroom to avoid Sulliman? Lame.
But that's just my minor nitpick, really. I liked Calcifer.

I know :down I didn't really like how Sophie kept reverting back from old to young and young to old over and over again.
Is Calcifer still running Howl's moving castle (in this case, flying castle) or what?
Tsunulia
07-14-2006, 07:37 PM
Castle broke apart remember? I assume his new castle took a diffent means of magic to move it.
Calcifer can fly now. Yeah, it would make sense if he had enough power to be able to fly the castle.

A bit late, but a big ol' ditto on the Steamboy. As stated, it was very expensive, and a very long time to make, and it was definitely worth it.
Visuals are AMAZING:

What's it about? Steamboy, that is.
Leto Atrides

It takes place in the 1860s. Basically, Lloyd Steam, an old inventor, and his son Edward invent this new source of energy, the "steamball". It's a metal ball with a valve at the top (it's in the one screenshot). They want to build a big mechanical castle to show off the new technology at the London Exposition. However, there was an accident in testing, and Edward is greviously injured.
Worried about what will happen, Lloyd sends the ball to his grandson, Edward's son, Ray. All different parties try to steal the ball, and Ray tries to escape, only to be caught and brought to the Steam Castle, which has been built in London, powered by the other 2 balls that were built. All that is needed is Ray's ball for it to come to its full power. The aforementioned parties all want the ball, and are willing to fight for it. Adventures ensue.

What the hell was Metropolis about?
It is about humanity becoming so dependant on technology that humanity suffers. The one machine is finally created that can think for itself. It no longer needs or wants humans to 'enslave' computers/androids. Humanity and technology struggle to the point of them destroying themselves.

Yeah same basic premise. Actually, the first version of Metroplois was made in 1927...yes I typed that right. :) It was a movie about people who can only do and those that think. (You can find it to rent but is is not the original version. most of the film was lost to the film itself decaying. What was able to be restored has been released.)
Over the years there have been many films and other works on this...some named Metropolis some iwth the same basic story. By far the anime is one of the best since the animation gives it more freedom to tell the story.

VAMPIRE HUNTER D .... or NINJA SCROLL would be great
animination to real live film productions.
many are still infatuated with the vampire-
though producers would have to be careful not to
put the Vampire D characteristics to close to the image
of another previous vampire hunter - Blade.
they have to make sure it's two totally distinct differences
between D and Blade.
different age, different type of horror villains
(not just vampires only like Blade usually fights)
Stay much with the core of the first Hunter D film - ghouls,
werewolves, mutates, Giants, serpent-women, etc.
and of course, Ninja Scrolls has a host of imaginary , deadly fighters
and mutants to choose from.
thoughts ? .....

Holy crap Lex! You were right about the FMA movie. It rocked so hard  Animation was much smoother than on the series. Had to keep track of the story :p too much going on at once. And what was with some of the scenes missing subs?
The ending was a bummer, but yeah, it did rock hard. I enjoyed it thoroughly. And after all, this is no Disney.
Scenes missing sub? Yeah, I have no idea. It must be a fan-sub, so it's possible that the subber may have missed out on some scenes. But I didn't mind, anyway. I was too sucked in with the animation and the story.

Was there ever a reason given why Envy turned dragon through the gate, and Gluttony became a multi-headed lard bucket? Wrath didn't change at all.
Gluttony ate Dante, so that probably had something to do with his transformation. And he stayed in that place for such a long time, so maybe he got fat from overeating. And I have no idea why Envy turned into a dragon. Maybe the little black things were holding him back, so he transformed into a dragon to increase his strength to get completely through the Gate.
Tsunulia
07-21-2006, 02:35 AM
Or could the black hands changed him? The black hands left Eckhart changed when she went through.
Or that. Yeah, I forgot that Eckhart changed when she went through the Gate.

Was there ever a reason given why Envy turned dragon through the gate,
Bump.
Found this.
By the time he makes his way through to the other side, Envy becomes a massive amphibious serpentine dragon (a reference to both the Leviathan as the sin of envy personified and the Ouroboros tattoo all Homunculi possess) in the process. His power of transformation is rendered inert as he arrives at the other side (since alchemy does not exist there), trapping him in his serpentine form forever.

So he shifted into a dragon on his own free will or was it an automatic reaction caused by the gate

Bump. Finally finished Howl's Moving Castle. Wow, the ending was horrible. Totally agree on the whole personality thing. The Witch of the Waste seemed so powerful but struggled to even get up a flight of stairs. I really thought she was going to be the villain of the movie. Sulliman was too abruptly introduced to the story. Frankly, I thought her character was not needed.
Still a great movie. Somehow...

Just saw Akira and Grave of the Fireflies i would give both 7/10....
Neither was special nor crap...Akira felt liek it was on the theborderline of being a totally awesome movie with a good plot to a crappy confusing movie with a crap plot.
Grave of the Fireflies had a good message and theme, but meh, could have been done better. ---
After all i heard about these movies before i saw them i had high expectations....i would say Superman Returns of anime movies: They're not great, but they are not bad, and u have to see them.

So, I finally got around to renting Steamboy. The initial plan was to get Princess Mononoke, but my store is the suck because they didn't have it. Regardless, Steamboy was the perfect substitute. I enjoyed it. The animation was near flawless, it was very naturalistic. There are no words to describe how beautiful it was when the water froze over the city... or steam, Iono. The voice actors did a fantastic job, I wasn't distracted from the fact that a boy of thirteen was being voiced by a woman, so job well done. If they spent a total of eight years making this, then I say they nailed it.
Before I forget, I liked watching the special features, particularly the featurette of re-voicing Steamboy.

I FINALLY saw Conqueror of Shamballa. Damn, what a letdown! I was expecting something epic, something to be remembered as the true end of the series. Instead, it was absolutely disappointing. The story was so convoluted and rather than closing the story we get this ending that piles up more questions to ask.
I'm going to disregard the movie and stick with the ending of episode 51, thank you very much.:o
