Happened to me too a few days ago, lol. I thought it was a virus but nope. Looked like a ten minute one time thing. But I'm using a laptop. Strangeness.

It does it about 2 out of 5 start-ups, and it did it once after I had been online for about 30 minutes. It usually happens while loading the desktop, just shuts down completely. I ran fraggers and checkers and nipplers, but nada. :(

I had the same sort of problem last yr and it was cause one of my sticks of ram was currupt. might also be from overheating.

Were you messing with the insides of it before this problem started? Installing anything new latley?

Nope, and nope. I haven't installed any new programs in a while, and I wasn't messing with the guts. It happened a few times over the last couple of days, and when it does shutdown the light is on and I can't click the restart or power-on button, I have to switch off the power to restart it. It doesn't happen constant, it's like a 2 out of 5 type deal too.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Well when it does a simular thing on my pc its normaly because it over heats and shuts down then i have to turn it off at the switch on the power supply the same as you (thankfuly its stopped doing that now)

Maybe if its hot in Texas its taking it out on your computer? I dont really see how it could be a software problem its most likely going to be hardware overheating and tripping it out, or somethings gone/going bad.

The heat thing could very well be an issue as it's now running fine, and it started fine, since it's cool in here now. I'll have to keep it as cold as I can tomorrow afternoon to test it.

Yeah, I just checked, it's running just fine.

Yeah, I just checked, it's running just fine.

If the fan is working fine, you might want to try using a vacuum cleaner and/or a can of compressed air to clean out any dust bunnies.

A good suggestion, but use only canned air. You run the risk of generating a static or even an electrical shock to your computer components off of a vacuum, which would really FUBAR your system.

Also, if nothing else, you might want to point a fan directly at your system, if you can't immediately get a new fan installed.

Back when we were poor, 3 guys living in a sweltering shack, this would happen all the time (despite our functioning fan), usually right after we died in Everquest.
Then once summer was over, no problems at all.
I'll bet it's Texas:blazingheat:.

OK, I left it off all day, got it away from the wall and I'm blasting my a/c like a psycho. So far so good, it started up fine, and I'm still online. The fan is running like a champ inside, so hopefully it was just a :blazingheat: issue.

Yeah. I think that might have actually been what was wrong with mine too, since when I put my wrists on the palm rest thing I think I burned myself. Stupid heat.

Try booting in, in safe mode, while its loading keep pressing F12 (or one of the F`s) and select safe mode.

No, that costs money and Maxwell Smart is willing to do it for momentary acceptance. Sorry.

Sweet, unless he has really bad ideas of what a hot chick is, in which case the last thing you'd see before you die is this:
