Beast Wars does not equal Beast Machines.
Two different shows. Beast Wars was a multi-layered, intelligent TV show which paid a great deal of attention to the Generation 1 cartoon (if you actually watched the show you'd know that). And at no point do any of the characters throw fecal matter. But OMG AHAHAHAHAHA YOU SO FUNNYY!!!
Beast Machines, on the other hand, may have had numerous layers, but it made several plot changes that offended the less open-minded members of the fandom (resulting in some people sending death threats to the writers).
Beast Machines had ONE transforming plant character, Botanica, and she's the only "plantformer" in Transformers history.

Although I didn't necessarily like the transformations in 'Machines', I thought it was a great way to end the whole "Beast" saga.
I just finished watching all of the seasons of the original TFs and compared to the "Beast" saga, while it was fun to watch, the depth and maturity of the storyline was absent unlike in Beast Wars/Machines.
At first I was weary of it but by the end of it, I thought it was one of the greatest TF series to air on TV. Everything after it (RiD, Armada, Cybertron, Energon) seemed sub-par and totally kiddie-washed.

I personally enjoy Beast Machines for its differences and the balls it took to make those changes. I thought it was a fine finale to the Generation 1 universe, too.
However, a vast majority of the Transformers fandom hates the show with a passion, and I can understand their feelings. I just don't particularly agree with them.

LOL! Okay, fine, beast wars was cool. Didn't mean to mix shows. However the ending of Beast Machines, where Cybertron turned "organicTRON" was simply RETARDED!:marv: I just can't forgive them for ruining a perfectly good show. I liked Beast Wars, I could even accept that Prime had teeth and lips, well not really but I could accept that he transmetaled into a surfing monkey. wait.. hmm.. see I just can't AKLDJREJARJRRRRGG!!! I HATTTEEEE!!! BEASDSHTIHW@RS!!! sorry. :hulk:

In regards to the plot and storytelling in the original series.. C'mon! It was made to consume time between commercials to sell more toys, while showcasing more toys to purchase. I mean, it was made for 80's kids like me and the other non early sex educated internet porn using overly stimulated intelligent kids of todays youth. Of course animated series produced today have to have more depth in order to induce the once entertained by shiney new toys now having the funds to go into debt thru plastic cards and only interested in reliving their childhood through endless purchasing of plastic toys and internet porn viewing individuals such as myself.:doom:
