Embedded Videos

You know what this forum should allow? Embedding youtube videos into a post, so it would show up as a picture with that little play button in the middle to start, like I've seen on other forums. That would be pretty nifty. I can't see it being any sort of obstruction to the post flow, since they don't play automatically, you have to hit that start button to play them. Since they're embedded videos, they wouldn't really use up the hype's bandwidth, right?

Just out of curiosity, what do you mean? If you mean material-wise, wouldn't it be even safer than having us post youtube links all over the place when you can't tell what they are without playing them? This way you'd have a preview just sitting there, saving you time when you're checking to see if it's decent. It's much easier to hide indecency if you don't embed.

i think it may have stuff to do with studios and films, if its just a link the hype cant be held responable, but if the video is embedded then there fubared

1) Performance will goto crap - having to load a video in every thread? let alone someone attaching 4 videos...

2) Content I dont want to come to a thread and have a video start playing and is load at work...let alone the content...

For the RPG threads it would be nice if we could have an embedded chat window since not all the people have compatable IM services, or IM services at all and PM's are limited to only sending to 5 people. And most arcs involve more than that. Once the PM is sent to more than 5 people the messages become entangled and it's a mess.

But the videos don't load unless you hit the play button. And like I said, MORE content you don't want probably would come in with non embedded videos, since it just looks like a jarbled link when you just link to a youtube video. And again, it doesn't play unless you actively hit the play button that's displayed in the middle of the embedded video. It's just a thumbnail basically.

There really isn't a difference. An embedded video is just a more efficient link.
