I place IV higher up because it was never truly finished. Kevin and I have had a couple of discussions on this film before. I'm in the small minority who thinks the film would be damn good if given the proper overhaul.

Superman IV is bad but likeable. I agree that the potential was there. Sidney J Furie did direct The Ipcress File, he has talent. Reeve was emotionally involved in the story, and you can see it in his final speech at the UN. The original ideas for Nuclear Man - with Reeve playing him - were far better than what ended up onscreen.

BUT.....you can't rate what could have been, only what there is. Superman IV is not finished, but we can only rate what their is to rate. And that comes well below Superman II and Superman III in my opinion.

I think Superman: The Movie and Superman Returns are tied for me. I liked Superman Returns, and i think it was the best sequel to S:TM to date, but I have sort of a soft spot for origin stories...

IV and III are tied as both are pretty watchable to me, but not so great

For me it's either Superman: The Movie or Superman II which is the best, although Donner's Superman II could be even better. Returns was great too, and I even like III and IV, despite the flaws.
