I went to back up some data and I couldn't write anyhting, music or data, to a CD. My computer is telling me all the space available on my D: drive is full.
How do I clean it out? (running Windows XP)

What is your D drive? Is it a second hard drive? Is it a partitioned drive? The info you've provided couldn't help anyone. Best you leave now.

You eat lunch by yourself, don't you?
It's a DVD ROM drive.

Then it's refering to the disk... you can't write any data on a DVD ROM drive, so you can't back anything up to it, unless it's also a writer.

I'm not that computer savvy, so bear with me please.
Specifically it says "DVD/CD-RW." I have saved files before using it. When I try now, I get a message saying "disc is write protected." I know that isn't right. Ive been using the same software too, Roxio. It came with the laptop.

Okay, so it is a writer. Then the error message is referring to the disc itself, not the software or the hardware. Put a blank disc in there. The disc you're using is either full or defective.

I tried ten discs and two brands. Nada.

Are you using DVD-R's or DVD+R's? Your DVD writer may not be able to handle one or the other.
