View Full Version : Worst comic book film???

so what do you think is the worst comic book film?

Majik1387
07-17-2006, 06:04 PM
It wasn't the Rocketeer, Blade 2 or Punisher.

Kable24
07-17-2006, 06:29 PM
The Rocketeer, Blade II and The Punisher are awesome movies. The Hulk isn't bad. Love the scenes with Hulk in them. X-Men 3 is a fun action movie. B&R sucked royal dick and Superman 4 should have never been made.

Agentsands77

BATMAN AND ROBIN, without a doubt. At least SUPERMAN 4 somewhat respected its character (and the rest of the films cited aren't *that* bad).

I think to answer this question we have to look at potential.

Which movie SHOULD have been great because of the quality of the comic/characters ?

With that in mind ... IMO Daredevil has been the biggest let-down

I know its not on the list but everything from story to casting was just wrong.

To my dying day I will argue Superman IV is worse than B&R. :o

I could never go there. They both suck, but SUPERMAN IV at least tries to be good to the character.

BATMAN AND ROBIN is a film with no respect at all for the material.

Batman & Robin obviously but The Punisher, X-Men 3 and Blade 2 aren't worst. CINO(Catwoman In Name Only), FF and Elektra should be in that poll.

Cyrusbales
07-18-2006, 04:48 PM
I didn't include catwoman out of sheer disgust! I didn't want the poll to be too easy! wanted some discussion. FF4 could be on their, but Dr Doom is a saving grace, even if he is rubbish in the film compared to the comics, he's still an awesome villain.

c'mon, X3 is pretty lame, there's so much wrong with it, ultimate anti-climax of any comic book film series!

DarKush
07-18-2006, 05:08 PM
1. Batman & Robin
2. Catwoman
3. Superman IV
4. Spawn
5. Blade Trinity (To be fair, it had some good elements, but it was so poorly done and dropped the ball way too often)

If I had seen Steel, Barb Wire, Tank Girl I'm sure they would probably be somewhere on my list.

As for the others on the list: Hulk had a good cast, but the CGI Hulk and Gamma dogs just didn't do it for me. Plus, Nick Nolte's Absorbing Man didn't work for me either. I wish they had gone with another villian.

I liked the Rocketeer, Punisher, Blade 2, and X-3 was okay.

Personally I liked Elektra and FF. Elektra was fairly run of the mill, but I don't understand why it gets such hatred. Same with FF. FF was an entertaining movie. Though Batman Begins was a better movie, I actually had a better time watching FF last year.

Cyrusbales
07-18-2006, 05:12 PM
Steel is really ****e, but it's so bad it becomes funny, it's quite hilarious really, I didn't want to include it as you can't get it on region 2 DVD so most people haven't seen it.

The problem is, we can only discuss widely-seen movies. The truly bad ones are the films not even given major releases, or hidden in the TV schedules.

Movies like Generation X, The Guyver, Justice League of America, Steel and The Return of Swamp Thing - these are the truly worst comicbook movies.

EDIT: Yeah, it was released theatrically in the US. I knew it was too well-known to be a DTV.

It was also released in Kuwait and Singapore just to add to the list incase the US is ever brought up for war crimes.

Let's not forget Capt. America.

Captain America has two things going for it - it's the first superhero movie to portray a supervillain in a tragic light; and it also streamlines Cap's origin with the Skull's, to make both more believable yet add dramatic irony.

Chris Reeve is actually not very good in Superman IV. If you compare his performances from the first three films to Superman IV, you'll notice a huge change. Basically, he's not trying very hard. In Supes IV, you're watching a smaller, slimmed-down Christopher Reeve going through the motions on a film he knows is going to be complete crap. It's like the spell is broken - you're not seeing Superman anymore, you're seeing the man who plays him - playing him badly. Margot Kidder actually puts far more into Superman IV than Reeve does.

George Clooney as Batman??? I think thats worse casting than Kate Bosworth, and they ruin plenty of actual comics characters. B&R gives me headaches...

Clooney could be a great Batman - given a great script and a great director. If Christian Bale had been cast in Batman & Robin, we'd now be saying, "Bale is the worst Batman ever."

Well, I do need to watch it again. The last time I saw any of it was about 3 years ago and it was only about 20 minutes including the scene with the ridiculously cheap animated tornado, so I was laughing my ass off.. Unfortunately I tried to rent it the other night, but someone had already checked it out.

Sorry but I can't agree. I think the best Batman George Clooney could be is in that movie. About Bale, even though I don't like Batman Forever I still think Val Kilmer could have made a good Batman somewhere else. I imagine I would have thought the same thing about Bale if he'd been in B&R. George Clooney is too much of a goofball for Batman IMHO..

Indeed. I remember being skeptical about Jane before the movie came out, but he was great in that part. I really liked The Punisher. Thought it did a really good job of capturing the comic book feel. Plus, the fight scene with the Russian puts it above half the movies on that list IMO..

Ok so I bought Superman 4 on vhs for about a dollar more than it would cost to rent it, and youre all right it was really really really terrible. You can feel Chris Reeves's pain from having to be in this movie.

However, due to the awesome godzilla-esque scene where Superman and Nuclear Man duke it out on the moon, I still have to say I like it a little more than B&R.

Which Punisher movie are you referring to, the one Wth Tom Jane or the One With Dolph Lundgren? I You mean the Dolph Lundgren one, yea, that was bad, but Captain America with Matt Salinger was 5 times worse.

I feel there are worse comic films besides Lundgrens Punisher, and Captain America probably would rank worse than it, as it just didnt know what to do with the setup they had as the ending didnt even try much.. perhaps due to budget. I did like the idea of someone from the 40s awaking in todays world. I could do without Red Skull being responsible for every single problem in the 20th century though. They were thinking of how to make the story rellevant but.. cmon. WW2 was enough.

I think they need to try again with Capt America and retry what they failed to execute properly, just much better writing and cast.

Still, BnR takes the cake. At least Capt America tried and failed.

Personally, I don't think everything about Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is bad, for one thing, Christopher Reeve's performance was excellent (the UN speech anybody?).

Superman IV: The Quest For Peace is a heavily flawed film that is letdown by absurd editing, which led to large plotholes in the story, and terrible special effects, all thanks to Golan Globus.

To this day, I still feel the film had good intentions, with at least some redeeming features that shine through despite the crappy special effects.
