It looks pretty different to the first trailer showed alongside the infamous killzone trailer, don't you think?

Agreed, it's mainly in the damage modelling and particles (Model wise it's not bad at all compared to the old CG thing), but the game looks good like it could be fun.

Looks fun for what it's worth.

I've seen better games in a Crackerjack box. :down :p

No really, it looks like it could be fun.. but doesn't justify the cost of shelling out $600, unfortunately. :/

the graphics could definately be better, but the physics look freaking great. it reminded me of flatout. hopefullly they'll have some minigames something like those to make full use of the physics engine.

Yeah, but at the end of the day, it'll still run me near $600. :(

Yeah for Tax! I know a person who works at a Walmart, so I'll give her the money to buy the system for me at some point (10 percent off on anything if you are an employee).

Either that or I can trade in my PS2, Gamecube and Xbox at EB plus about 10 games... I make too much money. :o

Extromaniac
07-22-2006, 04:03 PM
True, but I don't want to give up my Xbox or my pile of games.. They're classics to me : /

Besides, I'm going to have to spend my money on some of the X360 games coming out around that time.. so I'll be a wee bit short on cash.

HD version is up:

http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?type=mov&id=11964

(DRT) says:
motor storm looks good, but I doubt the final product will look like that
(Zenien) says:
I'm pretty sure Motorstorm will look like that in game if you go first person
(Zenien says:
It's identical to how it looked at E3
(DRT) says:
meh, maybe
(DRT) says:
I've never played a motorstorm game so I have no idea how big the enviroments are
(DRT) says:
I doubt a launch game will be that great looking though
(DRT) says:
even MGS4 doesn't look as good, and Kojima's pretty much universally considered the guy to push sony console's as far as they'll go
(Zenien) says:
Yeah but Kojima goes for rendering their hair to the highest detail possible, not craming in the best texture etc
(DRT) says:
is motorstorm first party?
(Zenien) says:
no
(DRT) says:
oh well then it will be ported and the 360 version will be better
(DRT) says:
obviously
(Zenien) says:
Fooled you it is
(Zenien) says:
you may now commence saying it sucks
(DRT) says:
well then it sucks
(DRT) says:
the 360 wouldn't want that garbage inside of it anyways
(DRT) says:
Mario64 looks better
(DRT) says:
speaking of nintendo, did you see that wii lightsaber video thing?

Well, I suppose I'm loosely both. I'm an old time lurker. Mainly because of a sibling's connection to this site. Just recently, I decided I should join, though.

Been lurking around on this forum for about a year and a half to two years now. :o

Wow, actually, let me correct myself two years to two years and a half.

Didn't realize it had been that long. :(

Not going to touch the 'could the 360 do this aspect' but I think it looks pretty impressive when it's in motion.

They are clearly using way too much motion blur to cover up a shoddy looking game :down

Without the blur effect this game looks like crap.

Yet they spent a lot of rescources to use a very high quality motion blur effect, and with it the game looks really good in motion, so really, why are you complaining.

WCR also looked bad in screenshots but much better in motion. The "have to see it in motion" mantra seems to only apply to the 360 is what you're saying?

The point is, this game looks awesome when taking in the full picture.

When I said the game looked like crap without motion blur, I didn't mean that game looked good with motion blur. The game still looks pretty bad, it's just that you don't realise how bad at first.

It's like when you think a girl is hot, but then you begin dating her and she's not as hot as she seemed at first.

I have to say, with those shots, it seems as though the motion blur is nothing but a cover-up for the less than impressive graphics. I fear those jaggies are in danger of slicing a vital artery.

I'll check the videos and see if the game looks any better in motion.

New preview at IGN:

Today, Sony held a press event to show off a number of the launch window titles for its upcoming next-generation powerhouse, the PlayStation 3. On display for hands-on time was just about every launch game and a number of near-launch titles, including Evolution Studios' MotorStorm.

The build on display was largely the same in content as we'd seen about a month ago at the Tokyo Game Show. Only one track, the dirty and dusty Raingod Mesa (the same track we'd played in Tokyo) was on hand, though a large selection of vehicles were at our disposal. While much of the content was the same, we're told that the team has made numerous improvements to almost every area of the game, including its visuals, AI, physics and more.

Honestly, none of them improvements seemed to stand out all that much to us. The game looked to run a little smoother, but most everything else seemed to be just a little more polish that we probably didn't notice because we'd expected it to be there before release anyway. Tiny things little better particle filtering, explosions that "fit" into the scene better and so forth.

That's not to say that the game doesn't look great - in fact, it's remarkably close to the original trailer shown at E3 2005 at this point, at least at times. There's a whole lot of post-processing going on that really gives the game a great film-quality look to it, and when cars are flipping through the air in front of you the game simply looks fantastic.

Unfortunately, it's still not running quite perfectly yet. There are still framerate and general speed issues, though the tracks are tough enough that we think if the game was any faster it would be almost impossible to properly maneuver through the course.

One thing that we did learn is that the game looks and runs much better while driving with the first-person camera. Aside from being able to see cool little effects like dirt and such collect on the windshield, the game runs at a better and at more consistent framerate. The vehicles are rather detailed, so this makes sense as the game doesn't have to always draw your car. Likewise, there seemed to be more post-processing going on while in this view so the whole game has a much more realistic look to it with motion blur and those sorts of things being more apparent.

As it stands, MotorStorm still has a ways to go before release, but it is looking quite promising. If the finished game runs at a smooth and steady clip, this could be the PlayStation 3's first great offroad racer, and we're really hoping it becomes just that. It certainly has the potential to.
