So i was thinking, after this movie comes out and the board becomes a madhouse (mader house really), sides are chosen, bans are handed out over silly arguments, all that stuff that usually happens... what next?

I think:

1. Of course things will settle down and sm3's section will become as active as sm1 and sm2's are now.

2. SM4 speculation will begin. Will raimi return... will tobey return... who are the villains... all that...

3. Batman Begins 2 will be on everyone's mind. That's definitely the next big film, a lot of batfans are already crossing fingers in hope that ledger nails the joker.

But enough of mine. What are your thoughts on the future for us all and the spidey movies?

oh and will the changes made in this film from the source affect the comics?

Yes it does and in what way do you think the future of spiderman's films, the board, all of this stuff we're discussing on this side of the forum will go?

Do you mean if we all stay around and debate the merits of the SM movies or if we like lemmings start flooding the Batman forum instead?

If that is what you mean I would say that it all depends on what news we recieve about a possible fourth movie.

Yeah, I guess it does... that's what i'm thinking in a way. Part of my interest in sm3 is not only to see what stuff peter parker and friends get themselves into this time but also to recieve some hints of what could happen in the next one if there is one. Is this the last of the raimi franchise or are they really doing 6 like i've read somewhere?

If it's raimi's last, I'll still be interested in where the next director wants to take the story.

There are 3 varients of the future:

A) Raimi won't come back, so Sony will find new director. But cast will come back. Spidey 4 will not be good movie, because new directors always ruins superhero franchises.

B) Raimi, cast and crew will all come back to make 2 more movies. Spidey 4 and 5 will be just good movies, but not as good as were previous parts.

C) Nobody will come back and Spidey 3 is the last movie. So we will wait for the new beginning, which probably will start in 10-15 years.

I prefer more C.

I don't want to offend anyone, but I really don't think Batman 2 or going to be on everyone's mind in the next couple of years. As successful as it was with the public (And I enjoyed a lot as well), it barely cracked the 200 million mark. The sequel may hit 250 if it's really good, but no matter what year it comes out, it won't be the biggest movie of the summer.

Furthermore, I don't think Heath Ledger playing the Joker is going to do much for the box office either. Before the Oscars last year, I read an article about him. The writer said that most actors with a box office record as poor as Heath Ledger would've been written off by now as a leading man. He's hot right now because of "Brokeback Mountain", but I don't see how that role is going to translate into huge numbers for Batman. He won't hurt the film because he is a talented actor. But, I don't think Ledger playing the Joker is going to pull anyone into the theater who didn't plan on seeing the filmin the first place.

Let's face it, most comic fans, or fans of comic movies, would go see Batman 2 even if DJ Qualls, Carrot Top, or a no name were playing the Joker.

As for future installments of Spidey, there will be a Spidey 4 IF the movie turns out to be a blockbuster (Over 400 million). I think it has a chance to be one. If it hits that mark, Sony is going to beg EVERYONE to come back. The last movie did 370 million, which is less than a 10% drop from the first film. Most will admit that Spidey 2 actually had some dull moments (Peter spends a lot of time outside the costume) and doesn't lend itself to repeat viewings as much as Spidey 1. This movie seems to have so much crammed in that it's going to have to move at a quick pace to get it all in. That'll help with repeat movie goers.

If the story is right, and the money is right, and the scheduling is right, I don't see why everyone wouldn't come back for ONE MORE film.

Don't underestimate Batman 2. Batman Begins may have not done the best at the box office, but you know what? Nobody really badmouthed the film. Weeks after release, people were talking about how much of a good FILM it was, and not just a superhero good movie, but a great film in general.

Batman 2 will do great at the box-office. I don't think it will do Pirates 2 numbers, but it will definately do better than BB's.

I agree with you. I'm not a big fan of the Batman comics. But, I LOVED Batman Begins. I actually saw it twice. Like you, everyone I talked to liked it as well

I agree with on that too. Still, I don't think it has chance of hitting 300 million. It would probably top out at 225-270 at best. Batman had 4 theatrical releases prior to BB. The public wasn't exactly clamoring for another one. That was evident from the opening weekends gross (around 47 million). On a best case scenario, it wouldn't open with more than 55 to 60 million.....which is in the range of the Hulk movie. That's a far cry from X-3, Spidey, the recent Star Wars films, and POTC.
