Man...
i take a week of vacation and Javier Saltares shows up here on the board...it figures. heh
and yes i agree w/ MarvelM...please post your work here if possible. loved your stint on the 90s book. i hope the folks at Marvel could include you on something to do w/ the movie though. whether it be doing the art for the movie adaptation (which would be a trip! maybe even get Tex in there too...), action figure designs, or some promotional artwork. maybe even do a special type of movie poster like what they did for the Punisher?
that would be nice....

Is this the real Saltares? I don't doubt you but, it's hard to trust anyone to be who they say they are on the net. Maybe it's somebody with the same name. I mean, I would think that he would have a better way to get in contact with MSJ than posting a question on a website forum.
Either way, I hope to see some of your work soon.

For that matter, you can email them to any of us Ghost Rider fans. I'm sure we'd cheerish them greatly... hehe. Actually, MM is the best one to trust them with. He has a great site that can host those pics for you... or even an entire page devoted to you and your work, if you wanted. I think I read him suggesting that earlier. Not tryin' to step on your toes double M.
I still can't believe that we're chatting with you Javier. Your work is truly amazing and definatly one of the reasons why the 2nd series was so damn good (better than the original in my opinion). You and your team captured the world of Ghost Rider perfectly. I love it!

I hope MSJ will take a look at your images, or maybe somebody from Marvel will check them out.. and like BIGGUN suggested.. you could be contacted about doing the Ghost Rider movie comic adaption, or promotional work (like Tim Bradstreet did for the Punisher movie) or something..
That would kick major butt..

Wow Javier...that stuff is tight.
and I thought Bernie Wrightson's version of a trenchcoat GR was cool! heh...just put some spikes on the fore-arms and knuckles and its perfect. :)
If you dont mind would you mind answering some questions? i think you would be the one to ask these to.
1. is it true that the original concept for the 90s GR was that he was to be a sort of "supernatural Punisher"? where on occasion he would kill human villains if the Penance Stare wouldnt work....as opposed to where he continually said (in most of the 90s series) that he would never knowingly take a human life.
2. were there any preliminary or unused concept drawings of GR ...or did you already have the look of GR already laid out?
3. do you agree w/ the idea that GR could be made into a PG13 film? or do you think an R rating is the way to go.

I have a question; Where did you get the idea to give him an oriental type look? The samurai sword and all is pretty damn cool and would make a nice addition to his chain assaults. Awesome work!
I hope we see more and I will you all the luck in the world in getting involved with Ghos t Rider again, in whatever fashion possilbe... either the movie or a new series. Javier, I'm definatly interested in getting one of those orignals from you. I'll just have to wait until after Christmas to do so. Money is tight these days, as everyone knows. I'll let you know, okay.
Javier,
If I were Mark Steven Johnson, you, Mike Ploog and Mark Texeira would all be involved in the Ghost Rider production in some way. Nothing against Berni Wrightson, Miles Teves, or any of the other talented artists who've contributed, but you three should've at least been called and offered the opportunity to come on-board.
Ploog, Saltares, Texeira - the Ghost Rider trifecta, IMO. The artists who've really contributed the most to the character over the years. To not have at least tracked you guys down and offered you work - just insane.

I'm also curious about that original art you mentioned that you'd create for us. I have a few questions. Are these ones that you've created before or ones that you will create as we request them? Also, as for the payment, I'm Canadian and would have to do a little more to get the money to you. Would you like it in money order form or is a check in Canadian funds good enough? Of course, I will covert it the the correct American amount. I'm very intersted and would love to have an original piece of yours hangin' on my wall. Let me know... You can PM directly if you like.

Hello Javier...
I recieved an e-mail which thought you'd be interested in..
just wondering how much would Mr. S price an convention piece with his ghost rider (1990) with another character. Nothing fancy just the two characters in an action pose. I have the original page from ghostie when the punisher tells the kid "you'll take another ride with are friend and worst with me."
Please tell him some of his artwork is in good hands
An interested person would like to know of commision prices... so thought I'd pass it on to "Mr. S."...
I can reply with a message of ours, or I can supply you with the e-mail address of the user..
Edit:
I got another e-mail with some info to clear up what he wants an estimate for
Ghostie and another charater on 8x11 pencils only

I'm glad to see new artwork from Mr. Saltares. I joined comics, and my favourite, Ghost Rider, right when he was drawing it. I always loved the anatomy of skulls, and he, along with Texeira, was one of the greatest specialist. And the way the orbits look.. damn, he could make Ghost changing expression by only changing prospective.
Or the body language/proportion, Ghost had weight, he was heavy, he moved like a golem/zombie/mechanical doll! It was amazing!
Excuse my OT, i just needed to manifest my admiration to this great artist.

Thansk for the update Jarv! It's good to hear a confirmation that Ghost Rider is being talked about more at Marvel. I hope that we'll see you on one of their projects in the future. Be sure to push the character to them and let them know we want an ongoing and not just a mini. I know at least 3 people that would subscribe... if that's enough to persuade them...hehe.
It's great that you back at Marvel. Can't wait to see what you'll be workin on!

hi all,
just wanted to answer a couple of questions for you.
1. about the bike, i think it looks cool.
chopper isn't the way i would go, but it's the classic
johnny bike. something about the long forks on a chopper
that looks fragile to me. but that's just me. that's why i changed
it for the danny bike. something more compact and tough looking.
hence, the modified rice burner. just looks like it could go through
a wall and take it.
2. still trying to get my pages up for all to see. working on it i promise.

Hey Jarv! I can appreciate what your saying about the bike. As you may or may not have read, I'm a huge fan of the Ketch saga of Ghost Rider, most so than the Blaze. I really like the bike you used but, I didn't want to see something like that in the movie.... Not until Dan is the one who rides it, ya know?
Lookin' forward to those images. A lot of us (maybe none as bad as I) are dying to see the some of (or all) the story that was never told. Remember to let us know how we can purchase them from you, if you're still sellin'.

Your right, of course, about the long forks not being as sturdy, but if the bike is made from supernatural otherworldly metals and brimstone and such, reinforced with hellfire, does the style of bike really matter in regards to sturdiness? Its gonna be unstoppable (and sturdy "as hell") regardless.
I think your very talented, I hope when/if they do an ongoing Ghost Rider title, with Blaze as the host, your involved with it. I just hope you don't have a problem doing the chopper style for it :)

Nice to see you on the site, Javier! It's fantastic that guys like you and Mark Steven Johnson take the time to chat with the fans. I just wanted to say that it was largely because of your rendition of Ghost Rider that I got into the comic and the character. He just kind of jumped off the shelf at me, looking way cooler than all the other spandex-clad Captain Hero Man's.
The full page picture of him in Issue 1 bursting out of the scrap pile with Barbara in his arms totally captures his essence. I love that picture!
And unlike some of the later artists that worked on the series, you didn't draw him all pumped up like a steroid junkie and with squinty eye sockets (my pet hate). He was lean, scary and unstoppable. He was Halloween incarnate.
Just wondered, if no-one else has asked, how long did it take you to come up with your design for the Hellcycle? And what do you think of the movie version?

I thought the same for the Hellcyle, with the weak looking forks.. and that they didn't really look very supportive (or real for that matter).... but I think the bike will look pretty awesome on the big screen.
About IGR, I'll be updating it this week... couldn't do it this past weekend because I went to my cousin's for her first communion.. pretty cool, but took the whole weekend. From the latest photos on set the forks look really though and wide imho...Actually i think they are really studied up. Jarv ones were large and flat(a line section I ), so they looked very though since the front wheel was really close to the bike and they were really visible for the most from sides. In a chopper the forks are and even looks fragile because they are visible and exposed from all sides except from the back. Then, a cross section(as chains) fork really looks even wider than it is, especially from 3/4 directions, the most probabile. I don't know if this effect is casual or not, but i think on screen it should really works so could look almost as tank like as Jarv ones..

There are some German GR comics/stories but it's only a small percentage of the US-issues that were translated as far as I know. Since I collect US-comics I don't have a vast knowledge of the German stuff, I must confess.
But I have gathered quite a big collection of US-GR-issues (except the GR=Night Rider stuff).
Two years ago I went to Rome and have to say there were some very nice comic-editions but unfortunatly my Italian is limited to a few words so I had to leave them in the store.

I bought the first 30 issues of Ghost Rider - Volume 2 for about $15 or so on eBay... a steal IMO, but getting the past issues.. from before I was born even.. a little hard to get the hands on.
I would definitely stand by a Ghost Rider TPB..

I really hope so. I never read any of the Johnny Blaze comics; only the short-lived Spirits of Vengeance title which had him and GR fighting demons and villains together. If the movie's a big success, it'd make perfect sense for them to do that.
Fingers crossed, eh?

I am unfortunate to have never read any of the comics, that is one reason I hope that they will release the graphic novels because they have at least seven of the comics in one novel. I want the Dan/GR because from what I can figure he cares more about people and is not so much into killing the people, just giving them the penance stare. I hope that someone will be able to tell me if this is a serious possibility and I hope that they ask Jarv. to draw the comics since all the pics from the Dan/GR comics he has done are so awsome that I can hardly talk after I see them.

I think that you would be perfect for a re-print or re-issue of the comics (single or a graphic novel) since you did a real jaw dropping job on all the pictures I have seen. Hello Mr. Saltares and the rest of the GR gang,
I sent an e-mail to you with all the necessary address / information.. and if there is any troubles or anything, feel free to e-mail me.
After a great vacation in greeny Ireland, and some hectic days with Fantastic411 which has had more updates in the past 3 days then any site could ever need... it's now time to get back with another Marvel character in Ghost Rider.
The crisp new logo on the official site is, IMO, much improved over the blocky one which presently resides in the banner of iGR. So, with that new logo.. I've decided to make a new banner.. which I hope will please.
The gallery has plenty of images in it, but why stop there... there are plenty more to come. I'm also going to start an iGR column, which will probably be posted every other week.. depending on what's happening in Ghost Rider City... new pictures released... and how many other updates there are flying about..
In the meantime... stay tuned to iGR for all the updates as always.. as there will be plenty of them really soon, and consistently and constantly.. instead of the recent... update one day.. week off... update... week off...
Anyways... any other questions or concerns.. please PM me, e-mail me at MarvelMania2001@yahoo.com or AIM me at Marvel587 (YahooIM at MarvelMania2001)...
....
On another note...
i am working on the hom wolverine tie in with mark texeira.
I can NOT wait for this work to hit store shelves.. I haven't been to the comic store in some time now.. but I will definitely be there soon if that is ready to be purchased.

It truly is awesome to read the comic credits and see the name of a man we now chat with online. It's unreal. Thanks for bein' with us and sharing your love for the character further.

Congrats Javier! I'm so excited to finally get to see some more of your GR work. You and TEX are the reason why I fell for Ghost Rider in the first place. Now, look how obsessed I am. Sheesh. This is highly appreciated, I tell you.

For example, I always wondered how to get some of your original pages from the 90's GR-run. Hopefully you will give us more news about your announcement of selling some of your artwork soon.
Actually, just by chance I managed to buy one of the original pages here in Germany: the origin of Doghead-page (the accident: bus vs.dog/boy)...incl. a great Blackheart rising-panel! WOW!

I gotta just say that this is the best thread ever!
Amazing work on the new series J! Glad you and Tex could get together to bring back the greatest character of all time.
... now the fact that Marvel could release Issue #94, how cool would that be. This seems a bit like Family Guy -- um, let me explain that one. Family Guy was cancelled by FOX and ran in syndication on Cartoon Network. Due to the high fan appreciation of the series, it was brought back and put back into production.
Due to the high fan participation and writing in of the Ennis / Crain series (which I just got all 6 issues in the mail yesterday from eBay, looking forward to reading those when I get a few minutes)... Ghost Rider is now coming back as well.
I'll most definitely be checking back into this thread often.

LoL. I cracked when I seen this thread started. I only mentioned it cuz the other thread wasn't really open to all topics but, it sure is awesome that you check this place often enough to see the posts we make and you definitely deserve your own thread. Scratch that, you deserve a shrine or something. After all, you did help turn a lot of us (me included) on to Ghost Rider with your artwork.
Anyhoo, enough kissin' ass (though it is genuine. I mean everything I say) and on to replyin' about issue 94. Is that why you never got back to us about selling the artwork after? I've been waiting forever to try and get a piece of that work but, it looks like such things won't be possible now that Marvel gobbled it back up. Of course, now it looks like there is a possiblity that we'll get it anyway... if these 'plans' do indeed unfold.
Great things are already happening, as far as I see it. It sure is a great time to be a Ghost Rider fan. It makes the past 8 years of waiting for a new comic, movie and everything else worth it. It was tough but, persistance and patience pays off in the end.
We are the luckiest fans of all. I hope everyone realizes that. No other character has not only the director of the upcoming movie chatting here but also one of the best artists to ever touch our character as well. Its incredible.
Thanks for being here. It means more than you can ever know.

Coolest news ever.
But now an official word of Javier Saltares?!
Crazy, guys! Absolutelly.
Please, Mr.Saltares, try everything to do it.
Kidnap Stan The Man Lee if necessary!!! :)
Just kidding..., or not...
It was one of the saddest days of my entire life when GR was cancel on feb, 98. Worst, without an ending!
How disrespectful! Us, fans who follow the character for 93 months?
Damn Marvel at the time.
Just when Saltares would return to clean up the mess that the title art would become, they finish it, without any explanations.
Sad, very sad.
But, itīs the past. Quesada arrives and saves the House of Ideas.
Weīre waiting with high hopes, Jarv. Do it!
Itīs one of my dreams to know the fate of GR:NETHERLORD!
Wow...
One question: if the issue comes to life, Ivan Velez Jr. will be the writer?
It would be cool, because he starting the final saga. It would be fair.

Well, I certainly have to drop in and give my Jarv fanboy shoutout here!
Let me just say, Mr. Saltaires, that you and tex have certainly outdone yourselves with the art on the new ongoing. You've both matured greatly as artists since you first brought GR back in the early nineties, and I think that the new stuff is your greatest work ever.
I think publishing #94 will be a very diplomatic move on the part of Marvel, showing that they're 100% into making the character successful again. I may even forgive some of the hiccups the series had late in the game (Devil Dinosaur? Howard the Duck?) Maybe. Maybe not.:cwink:
In any case, keep up the awesome work, and hope to keep hearing from ya!

dan, tex and i have found ourselves doing that alot with this new series.
really, we're not patting ourselves on the back here.
i just wanted to share that with you to express how much fun WE"RE
having with the book.
having said that, thanks again to all you gr fans who most definitly
fuel the mythos that is GHOST RIDER!

I'm not sure what you mean...
Javier Saltares (Jarv) is a past and current artist for the Ghost Rider comic. I'm pretty sure he's the man responsible for the image of the character we know and love today, the one being used in the movie even... the leather, spikes, chain thing, ya know?
Is that what you mean?

hi guys,
been a while.
to awnser the last post.
howard wanted a medallion, thought it was cool but i guess
we didn't get the chance to play with it. never really had the
oppertunity to understand the significance if any. know what i mean?
still a cool idea though. so on that note, speculate away!
i'm sure there are a million of ways we can go with this.

"cool tat"
A few years back, I decided to get a tatoo(sonewthinbg I always wanted to do) and my good buddy John Morelli suggested the medallion. Seemed too much for me to go that direction, so I have something else. MAYBE my second one. MAYBE I'll get it on the palm of my hand?

Actually i did it once in high school, with semi permanent colors (i don't really believe in tattoo). It didn't work though. :D

I was thinking of going in that direction 6 years ago myself, but thought it wouldn't look professional as an accountant. Now that that's behind me, still can't go for the tattoo because I want to teach.
Guess I'm destined to go uninked.

In my kids' school the 8th grade Social Studies teacher has a ton of ink(only wore long sleeves until he got tenure) and there was an older English teacher, heavyset, bald, alwways wore a suit and tie... turns out he had full sleeves on both arms and road a Harley... he now retired.

Hey Jarv.
Some news as of late is confirming a printing of issue 94 of the original series. Can you shed some light on this? Do you know anything about it?

on thursday to ask for my involvement. so far it seems we'll
be adding some pages and finishing some uninked ones.
don't know anything past that right now.
