View Full Version : Keeping comics in good condition????

I remember the old days when I would have all those plastic covers for my comics hanging around the house. Now I really don't have any at all. Wondering if you can keep the comics in good condition without actually using the plastic or will they get completely destroyed over time? All I do is put them away in my shelf.
I don't buy comics to "sell" them off or keep them in mint condition. Just like to have them in good condition for myself to read.

Bags and boards are a small price to pay to keep your comics in good condition.
Once you get into the habit, you won't be able to have a loose comic. A good comic bagged and boarded just looks a lot better.

yeah, bags and boards are the simplest and best way
I don't know what your standard of "good" is, but in comics grading, "good" is really quite beat to hell, and a fraction of the value of the book in near mint

Well, How much do the bag and boards cost??
I mean I have hundreds and hundreds of loose comics...

you can get a pack of 100 of each for $15 total or so, maybe a few bucks cheaper like if you buy your comics from a store that gives you a discount on supplies or something
you certainly don't have to do all of your comics, some may already not be worth saving, either because they're already damaged, or it's clear they'll never be worth much (this is true for just about everything published between 1987 and 1995)

if nothing else you should at least buy some comic boxes to store them in

Is it true that humidity is evil for comics too? Personally, I buy comics to read, but still, I like them in decent condition. Wouldn't want the humidity to cause the ink to run or something.

yes, Humidity and exposure to light are two major factors in accelerating a comics deterioration over time
