I just want to know if I'm alone or not. I thought it was alright. I'm just a casual fan of the spawn character, never read a comic about him, but saw a few eps of the hbo show and think he's cool. So I just rented the movie one day and thought it was really cool. Then I go on the internet later that night and of course the general consensus I've gathered is that it's a disgrace to spawn. Ok the cgi was worse than playstation 1 graphics but I enjoyed the movie anyway and spawn was just well cast, i thought. John whateverhislastnameis was very nasty and played the clown character well enough to me. We miss out on the two cops, sam and whoever the other guy is, I guess earl, no it's twitch or stitch. Anyway I liked it.
Please don't just come in and bash it. I know it's bashed a lot, don't need a reminder.
All I'm looking for is whether anyone else actually thought it was alright...:O
Anyone?

This movie had an accurate look as far as the characters visual appeal. It would just need different direction and not that dreaded PG rating

I liked the movie but can't stand the show or comic book. Also I got to meet the guy who did the sounds for the movie really funny guy.

It had some good points. I think if they'd gone all-out & made it an "R" movie, and maybe cut back on the CGI it would've been a lot better.

No, it wouldn't.
No offense, dude.
The reason Spawn sucks is because it's directed by a special effects man, not a director who can tell stories.

See, but the FX were good, the performances were good, but the structure & storytelling weren't. There are ways they could've fixed it.

I really liked it when it came out, but now it's just one of those cheesey flicks I'll watch on boring Saturday afternoons.

Yeah, but the people who made it, Dippe and co, are simply not the people to do that. Leave them on the effects, sure, but get in a whole new script and director.

Go and watch some of the numerous fan superhero movies, and then watch Spawn. The only difference is the budget.

Can we at least agree that it wasn't Michael Jai White's fault? He was great, I thought.

I love the spawn character but the movie was really bad. I thought they showed too much of spawn. What I like about the character is he stays in the shadows. He goes from corner to corner in the dark, fast and you can barely see him, only his cape and a chain or 2. I thought the cape was impressive but should have been seen thorughout the movie. I think spawn looked lame without it, or even without his mask for a big portion of the movie. I would love to see a restart of this movie franchise. The spawn movie just didnt do it for me.

well im huge fan of the spawn comic (the orignals the newer ones r meh) and i was just happy to see a movie, but i thought it was poorly written and to much of just an action with no heart story. What they need to do is give it the begins treatment. make a new franchise, bring in new director that respects the character's struggle and bring in the badass villians and stories, like Overtkill, more demonic Clown, Billy Kincaid,Tremor,Heap, GOOD cgi for hell and malbolga. and all the secondary characters like Terry, wanda, sam and twitch,Reedemer. If spawn was done right it would probably be one of the best comic movies ever, itd give sppidey and batman a run for its money. Then only guy i can thin of who could do this right is Sam Raimi or Zac Snyder.

i can agree it was NOT michael jai white's fault, i thought he was great even though if they had based it on the comics they could of had a white actor, anyone who reads the comics knows what i mean

http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0120177/fcs_JY26_1_03.jpg cool... I thought I was the only person on the internet who saw this and didn't think it was absolutely terrible. :O I just really liked this movie after my first viewing and yeah, White plays a good spawn. I loved the costume as well.
Here's a little story about the time I saw this. I was a kid around 11 or whatever, can't remember.... I rented two films at the time, Spawn and streetfighter:the movie. :o ...yeah... (I picked up street fighter mainly because I LOVED the mortal kombat movie and just thought "WOW they made a street fighter one!!!1 sweet, this'll be great!") Not even being an inexperienced youngster could make that movie seem good... Maybe seeing that pile of crap trying to pass itself off as a streetfighter film affected my view of spawn, because the spawn movie I watched afterwards and was happy to finally have something cool and fun to watch compared to the retarded streetfighter movie.
Well that's my story oh and I'd love to see a Spawn Begins movie too.

If your referring to his face being burned then I see where your going with this. But what about the flashback scenes? Michael Jai White was a great choice for the role. But for me the voice of Spawn will always be Keith David

no man, i meant in the comics when spawn is walking around in human form he is a blonde haired, white man with al simmons voice. he got pissed off the first time he turned white. im not sure how the non comic audience would have liked that. see spawn has 3 looks
1.Spawn from hell
2.Burnt up face Al Simmons
3.Blonde haired, white man, with Al simmons voice
see what i mean about the black actor, and white actor

The Spawn movie was alright, but it's a case of wasted potential as the HBO cartoon was much more superior than anything that was presented in the live action Spawn movie. Hopefully if/when a sequel/reboot of Spawn ever occurs as a live action movie, Mcfarlane will go for a R rather than a PG-13 rating which isnt the way to go with Spawn.

Which was my initial argument. Hell, the only reason I even saw the movie was b/c of the HBO series, and I doubt I'm alone. Why would they make a film that was such a huge departure from what drew the audience in in the first place?

Spawn needs a redo. He's one of my favorite comic book characters and the movie was too cheesy to do him any justice. The only good thing about the whole movie was Michael Jai White as Spawn. The rest of the movie sucked. If they do another one scrap all the characters and do a good story line with current special effects technology. I'd like to see what Tim Burton could do with a good Spawn script. He almost turned Superman into Spawn might as well give him the script he seems to want to do.
I loved the Spawn film ,as a kid, and now even still.
It's just a classic, IMO.
