View Full Version : Thoughts on Shocker figure (new one)

I think he looks great paint and sculpt-wise but the lack of arm articulation is a big :down. Anyone else find it ironic that there hasn't been a Shocker figure since 1995, and they still got the same thing wrong ? I really hope he isn't a 1-per-packer, cause I'm definently going to buy one.

Yea, the no articulation arms are becuse of the dumb gimmicks all figures have to have these days. When I was a kid I prefered using my imagination as opposed to all these spring loaded gimmicks.
When this figure supposed to come out?

cosbydaf
08-03-2006, 02:27 PM
It doesn't say on the official site, but I'm guessing around November. Series 19(the one with Electro) will probably be out early next year.

So yeah, we got a while to wait for any new stuff :(

Cyclops
08-03-2006, 02:57 PM
Nope. Toy Biz won't be doing any more Marvel action figures after this year is over.

cosbydaf

Oh yeah, I forgot about about that. Well maybe they'll release series 19 around December, I dunno.

Isn't it possible that the figure in the pic is a prototype, and the actual toy will have elbow joints after all?

CaptainStacy

I think he looks great, but i agree that the arm articulation kind of blows....

Still looking forward to adding him to my collection though.

I was disappointed to hear that the new company, Hasbro, didnt include any new Spidey figures. I still think there are several allies and enemies that deserve the Legends/Classics treatment (or whatever Hasbro is caling it now);

Prowler
Silver Sable
Cloak
Dagger
Rocket Racer
Will o' Wisp
Puma
Solo
Hamerhead
Chameleon
Tombstone
The Spot
Carrion
Shriek
And a Black Cat figure as good as Marvel Legends' Elektra or Black Widow...

And i guess im being a selfish Spidey fan, but;

Peter Parker
Flash Thompson
Gwen Stacy
Captain Stacy
Harry Osborn
J Jonah Jameson
Betty Brant
Mary Jane

and of course....Stan Lee!

Maybe one day.

cosbydaf

LOL, You say that like more spiderman figures is a bad thing!

And to the comment about prototypes, I kinda doubt it. When figures get changed, it's usually just paint apps, not articulation. But i could be wrong.

The Shocker figure looks good, how much articulation do you want--do want him to move like a real boy?

cosbydaf
08-03-2006, 11:26 PM
Well, I don't it's too crazy to expect ELBOW articulation, especially with all the poseability on figures we've been geting recently. I do like the figure though.

But not every action figure should have those kind of articulation like Spidey, except for maybe Venom, it's what makes the Spidey figure stand out, do to him being so flexable.

cosbydaf
08-04-2006, 10:17 PM
They really should have given him elbow articulation though.
He was almost a perfect figure, before they gave him that dumb action feature!

Cyclops

I think spring-loaded missile-launching arms is just... ehh. I don't like it. The whole arm is just wasted turning into a gun.

What I would have liked to see with Shocker as an action feature is having the ends of his gauntlets light up. You wouldn't have to sacrifice too much articulation, just put the button on the gauntlet itself and have it light up. Very simple.

Visionary
08-05-2006, 03:23 PM
Damn, what the hell do you people do with your action figures, that they need to have this much perfection in articulation...nevermind, I don't wanna know? :O

Yeah. It saves alot of posability, plus you don't have large garish holes all the way down his arms.

shocker doesnt shoot light though.... now if they put little vibrators in his arm then that would be better... controversial, but better.. and im not mad about the articulation because well.. shocker when he uses his gauntlets, always has his arms stretched out

CaptainStacy

True, but he doesnt shoot spring-loaded missiles either.

spideyboy_1111
08-07-2006, 06:40 PM
no.. but he shoots vibrations... wich would be next to impossible to do.. so they did the next best thing... because his blasts break walls and shoot out of his gauntlets, visible or not.. they used the next best thing.. misscles to shoot..

sue storm doesnt shoot missles either and they gave her clear ones...

"Invisible"????

No, check out some of the comics Shocker has appeared in...even on the covers you can clearly see a yellowish/greenish tint to his vibrations....ASM #46...ASM #72...ASM #152...and so forth.

That kind of lends more credibility to Cyclops' suggestion of having the figure's fists light up.

spideyboy_1111
08-08-2006, 10:32 PM
sorry buddy... but thats the colorors choice... he sends out vibrations caused by tiny sonic noises... that would produce no color. its the same thing as when they gave jean pink glowy crap and outlined the invisible woman.. so you could see there power working...

How do you know that? Have you actually seen a pair of vibro-gauntlets at work? I mean, if the force produced was invisible, they why not show it the way they show Invisible Woman's powers at work?

REgardless, it doesnt matter. It's still more representative of the characters powers to light up than shoot a missile, imo.

guess what.. they have before... many times they just digitally blur the area where shocker blasts , and sometimes add in squiggly lines...

http://www.samruby.com/AmazingSpider-ManA/Large/AmazingSpider-ManAnnual08.jpg

http://home.planet.nl/~spidey03/cover/d/spider_man_1990_85.jpg

Again.. it depends on the artists... but its just common sense that there just representations since shockers powers are vibrations... not electrical. and no matter how powerful the vibration is.. you cant see it

Heh....um...you might want to check with your eye doctor, 'cuz everyone of those links shows Shocker emitting a colorful blast from his gauntlets...

Anyway...that just confirms for me that the figure is better represented with light up gauntlets than missile launchers, but i guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on that one.

spideyboy_1111
08-10-2006, 04:20 PM
the last one shows a blur effect... but hey.. in your world if you can see vibrations, the more power to you. I'd probably use that gift to predict earthquakes or something... shocker's gauntlets dont light up... just like sue isn't lines, magneto doesnt have "purple shocks", jean doesnt have a pink telekenetic glow, and spidey doesnt get little squiggles around his head when his spider sense goes off

and for the record.. the lights coming from the point of impact in the gampe pic.. not the source... thus why its brighter at impact..

Cyclops

If anything, Shocker would make a good stoogie for a main villain on film. He could not carry a movie on his own. I would love to see him and Rhino as hired muscle for a main villain. I think that'd be fantastic. But as a central villain? No way.

I'm patient but where is Shocker?

I thought he was out in August has anyone seen him in the shops or on sale on the web?

I'm searching everyday but in the end hopefully he'll just appear.

Anyone got him yet?

Electro is to follow and he is also very good all we need now is a proper classic Chameleon based on Amazing Spiderman 1.

Shocker is on his way should be here sometime this week hopefully.

Just seen pic of repainted Mysterio due to be released in Jan 2007. He is cool but I wish they also made the dome more rounded at the same time.

Aside from the stupid action features, The figure itself looks pretty dam good.
And seeing as how it's the only figure of Shocker (that ISN'T 5 inches), it'll have to do.

and for the millionth and a half time.. there not really suppose to be missles.. just an action feature that nocks down stuff from his blasts... if anything they shoulda just made them clear... its just something FOR KIDS to nock down stuff with

Cyclops

spideyboy_1111
09-16-2006, 08:28 PM
ultimately it shouldnt even be this big of a deal.. kids are the only ones who really play with these..

Doc_OCK_4MUGEN
09-20-2006, 06:34 AM
well the XMC Cyke should've some Big ass red missiles that come out of his face... since the "Optic blasts" can knock down stuff... so the red missiles that would cause a big gaping hole on cyke's face should be there... Archangel doesn't throw missiles he throws his metallic feathers... another inaccurate toy... Spidey can stick to walls with any part of his body not just his hands and feet, so the "magnetic wall crawlling Spidey" is inaccurate as well... It kinda is a big deal, because of the kids we get semi-f'ed up figs or completely f'ed up figs.... I'M LOOKING AT YOU MR. HAPPY MEAL RIP-OFF HYDROMAN!!!
