Okay somebody had to get the Game of 2007 in here, so it might as well be me, the connoisseur of the genre.

Bioshock is an FPS/Action/RPG/Adventure game with a rare emergent-gameplay experience from the minds behind System Shock 2. The game takes place in an art-deco, decayed underwater metropolitan utopia. A spiritual successor to System Shock, Bioshock has a unique AI system where enemies won't always attack you and situations will never be the same twice.

Basically, it's everything you've ever wanted.

Yeah, this game will ****ing rock. I can't believe this, Mass Effect, and likely either KotORIII or Jade Empire 2 will be launching all in the same year. That's more quality RPGs than the xbox got in it's entire lifetime.

WhatsHisFace
08-09-2006, 03:26 PM
Don't forget Too Human and possibly Blue Dragon launching that year also. Though I look forward to Lost Odyssey more than any other Mistwalker game.

Manny Calavera
08-09-2006, 03:27 PM
Fallout 3, Project New Jersey, and Project Grey Company might also make 2007 as well. Though I consider Too Human more of a Ninja Gaiden/God of War type game with RPG elements than a full on RPG.

WhatsHisFace
08-09-2006, 03:28 PM
Project New Jersey? Tell me about this!

Manny Calavera
08-09-2006, 03:32 PM
Obsidian Entertainment's new RPG, it's a new IP, so it's not KotOR III or Neverwinter Nights III. Supposed to see some sort of announcement at X06 going by their forums. That's pretty much all that's known, besides that the team doing it is largely composed of the ex-troika guys that Obsidian and Bioware picked up, so it'll probably be real time and probably be ****ing awesome.

WhatsHisFace
08-09-2006, 03:35 PM
Obsidian is a bunch of vets from all over the place, and I think Kotor 2 was their first game together?

Well anyways, Troika made great games. Well, they were great games despite flaws that for some reason had no effect on how awesome the games were. They're one of the few developers who can get away with that.

Hopefully they've assimilated a bit and that Project New Jersey will see a silky-smooth development.

Manny Calavera
08-09-2006, 03:38 PM
KotOR II was their first game as Obsidian, but most of them had worked together before. Bioware, Obsidian, and Troika all traded employees back and forth from when they knew each other at Black Isle or when they were working for one of the three, and when Troika went under, pretty much all of them went to one of the two. The team doing Project New Jersey can claim stuff like KotOR II, the Fallout series, and Vampire Bloodlines, a classic series and two 9/10 or better games despite being rushed and in the case of Vampire Bloodlines being built and released entirely on a beta version of Source. New Jersey will rock.

WhatsHisFace
08-09-2006, 03:39 PM
Speaking of Fallout, Fallout 3 is going to be my next Deus Ex.

Well, along with Bioshock.

Manny Calavera
08-09-2006, 03:41 PM
You should have played Vampire Bloodlines, it was exactly like Deus Ex, it even had "Dead Ex", an homage quest that was also the best 30 minutes you'd ever have played in your gaming life time :(

But yeah, Bioshock is going to rock faces. Just looking at the screens and who's behind this game I can already tell that this game will ooze atmosphere and cool locales.

WhatsHisFace
08-09-2006, 03:43 PM
I did play Bloodlines. It was okay, but felt too TimeSplitters-y. I did play Dead Ex, which was a very scary mission, but the game just... I don't know. It didn't seem to have the coherence of the Deus Ex games.

I mean, it was good, but that underlying flaw left it not good enough to be considered a top-tier RPG, in my opinion.

Manny Calavera
08-09-2006, 03:45 PM
How on earth did you find Timesplitters in bloodlines?

WhatsHisFace
08-09-2006, 03:47 PM
The art style primarily, but there was the same "hollow" feeling about it. Maybe because in both games character footsteps don't make noise.

Plus, Vampires just aren't cool unless you're a goth kid. :(

Manny Calavera
08-09-2006, 03:49 PM
Those vampires were ****ing cool, and I'm no goth. You just played one of the more "jack of all trades" clans and so got a boring character. You should have been a Tremere, they get awesome blood magic and make people vomit blood or explode and shower everyone with boiling blood and bone chunks, or a Malkavian just to see their "insanity" dialogue options. I really wish Activision would do a quickie 360 port :(

WhatsHisFace
08-09-2006, 03:50 PM
It's pretty obvious that the Vanbread were the obvious way to go, as they're the only characters in the game who aren't common street trash and sexually promiscuous scum.

All the more elaborate weapons in the game are made out of esoteric household materials combined for weaponised means, so that's going to make for some VERY interesting concepts.

Manny Calavera
08-11-2006, 03:57 PM
Plus there's the fact that it's like System Shock, only with a cooler setting, better graphics, and probably better, more refined gameplay, making it one of the best games this gen.

WhatsHisFace

Too Human, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Fable 2 (Molyneux has spoken of his new, organized way of developing games which doesn't include the awkward satellite studios or strange times where the game will have only a few people working on it, as well as the benefits of being owned by Microsoft... long story short, Fable 2 is going to be much, much better, Molyneux said the first things they are implementing into this game are the things that DIDN'T make it into Fable 1, so kudos for that), Jade Empire 2, Lost Odyssey, Blue Dragon, Fallout 3, Lord of the Rings: TES clone, Cry On, Enchanted Arms, Two Worlds, Kingdom Under Fire (it's an RPG this time!), Project New Jersey, Dungeon Explorer (made by Hudson)... oh man. Best console ever.

After reading the vague storyline and the features, it occured to me that this might be one of the best games ever created.

* Take control of your world by hacking mechanical devices, commandeering security turrets and crafting unique items critical to your very survival.

* Upgrade your weapons with ionic gels, explosives and toxins to customize them to the enemy and environment.

* Genetically modify your body through dozens of Plasmid Stations scattered throughout the city, empowering you with fantastic and often grotesque abilities.

* Explore a living world powered by Ecological A.I., where the inhabitants have interesting and consequential relationships with one another that impact your gameplay experience.

* Experience truly next generation graphics that vividly illustrate the forlorn art deco city, highlighted by the most detailed and realistic water effects ever developed in a video game.

* Make meaningful choices and mature decisions, ultimately culminating in the grand question: do you exploit the innocent survivors of Rapture…or save them?

After your plane crashes into icy uncharted waters, you discover a rusted bathysphere and descend into Rapture, a city hidden beneath the sea. Constructed as an idealistic society for a hand picked group of scientists, artists and industrialists, the idealism is no more. Now the city is littered with corpses, wildly powerful guardians roam the corridors as little girls loot the dead, and genetically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. BioShock forces you to question the lengths to which you will go and how much of your humanity you will sacrifice...to save your own life.

From all the stuff I've read about it, the amazing amount of thought and creativity poured into this makes most other games look like hollow, EA owned franchise updates.

Hurray for Take 2! They are a big publisher but know not to push art.

I cannot wait for this. Is there a release date, even a tenative one?

I would give my right nut or kidney to play this now.

This game is Deus Ex. But Kevin Levine wants this game to SELL so he's calling it an FPS.

You kinda missed the point....it's not an rpg or fps in the strictest sense. It has elements of both, but what it boils down to is what makes this game beautiful...choice.

Want to play it as a straight up fps? You can.

Want to focus more on rpg elements? You can.

Want to mix and match? You can.

and what elements will you choose to expand? which ones will y ou neglect? will you try and overpower your enemies by being super developed in one area, or a jack of all trades?

Its about choice my friend.

I really hope Gamespot gives this game a good score, so I can hear the same people who have been *****ing an moaning about how much they hate GS over a ****ing 8.8 singing their praises. It's amazing how fickle people are with that sort of thing, it makes me wonder why they bother to read reviews at all since all they really want is someone to agree with them.

I actually agree with Gamespot almost always. I think they gave PDZ 0.5 too much, but in their defense, the gameplay is REALLY good.

I must say, Deus Ex was a game with a lot of rough edges, which is why Gamespot marked it down quite a bit. However, Deus Ex was a game that had very lovable flaws, and I enjoyed the game not in spite of them, but because of them.

Deus Ex is probably the best game I've played, problems or not. I don't think if it was flawless it would have been any better. It was just... right.

It's not completely done, but they got a download up for some things, like crates, batons, and some things I forgot. Definately can't wait until it's completed. And Bioshock is going to own... I'm getting it for PC, but if it's as good as it's supposed to be, I'll buy it for 360 as well. And as far as Fallout 3 (mentioned at the beginning of thread couple months ago), isn't it made by mostly different people? Project New Jersey sounds interesting also. Anyone knows what it's about?

Project HDTP claims they'll be done by end of the year, but I'm guessing spring of 2007. They're almost done though, been working on it for a while.

And I'll probably try Fallout 3 for sure.... I loved the frist one.. still havn't played the second one (even though I do own it.. still havn't beaten the first one yet though).

Edit: Also it's rumored (or was.. not sure anymore) that EA (or whoever the hell published System Shock) are going to make a System Shock 3. I really hope they don't.
