It's not that I find the concept of a $600 console insulting. Inflation happens, and it's natural that eventually inital prices will be higher than they used to be.

When I know that a console's direct competitors cost two-thirds or half of that price, it becomes harder for me to justify shelling out that kind of money--especially when I can probably get the Wii and the 360 combined for the cost of a PS3.

The other big reason for people to shell out $600, BluRay, is frankly something I don't care about

$600 might be worth it if there were several huge titles on the near horizon that were PS3-exclusive

And most of the big guns--FFXIII, MGS4--won't be hitting for quite some time after the launch.

As head OpM editor, she would have had a hand in that. That means she would have played a PS3 before. it's just a buying strategy. they want a PS3 but not at the initial price and considering they'll get to play at work at times unless fired that makes even more sense. when the big guns arrive and the PS3 gets cheaper is when things will get intresting. until then sony will sit back and let the PS2 outsell the 360. they've got a 10 year life cycle planned. they might aswell sell to the ultra hardcore fans first while the machine costs more to make that the asking price. you bring in the masses when it's profitable to do so. when HD tv sets are more commen and when people are ready for HD content.

you could have placated them by saying it was likely. but as it stands the point was irrelevent since the article never said the PS3 wasn't worth playing, it mostly consentrates on the price. your whole line of arguement was flawed since it started from an assumption. i think you mostly did it out of some misguided sense of fun in annoying people tho. i argue with you when it amuses me to. other wise i just read your arguements having a laugh at them.

This is getting to be utterly ridiculous. I know it's hard for some of you people to understand how anyone could possibly disagree with you, but it happens and there is nothing you can do about it. Do you really think your swaying anyone's opinion around here, I mean come on, you're in the Sony section of the boards desperately trying to make playstation fans hate the ps3. You don't like the ps3 then good for you! The EIC at OPM doesn't like it then good for her, just because she works for playstation magazine doesn't mean she has to like everything Sony does (though it makes you wonder why she even bothered getting a job there). Just because she has a negative opinion about ps3 doesn't mean anyone else has to agree with her, she isn't god and neither are you. People are allowed to like what they want and you nor anybody else has a right to take that away especially since it has absolutely no effect on you whatsoever.

Oh and just to let you know, when people constantly try and get everyone's approval about something instead of just being content with what they like, it only makes them look even more insecure about their decisions. Bingo. People keep forgetting that Sony has ALWAYS had inferior Hardware to its competitors. The only thing going against them here is the fact that they don't have as many games available at launch, and have fewer games than M$ at the time PS3 launches.

The fact remains that the average consumer knows none of this. The millions of parents buying systems for their 8-16 year olds don't care about Blu-Ray, don't care what the PSM editor may have said, don't KNOW that the games their child demands (GTA, etc) are either not exclusive or not out and they CAN be prodded to spend an extra $200 on their, in many cases, spoiled kids who think they're entitlted to 24-hours a day entertainment.

PS3 will pale in comparison to MS on even more levels than last time. M$ owners can confidently say PS3 will suck. PS3 will sell well. It may outsell M$ and it will definitely outsell the Wii and chances are, if it DOESN'T outsell it's competition, it won't be very far behind, if at all.

People are Sheep. People are dumb. Sony has 'brand recognition' independent of the quality. PS3 will do spectacularly, despite price and lack of games and inferior hardware.
