i loved all previous die hard movies, but that trailer has pretty much informed me that die hard is no longer the staple for "realistic" action scenes.... it just looks like it has become another summer movie with dodgy effects, and dodgy actors (ie: justin long)

No because I liked the first films, and I never played with transformers dolls or whatever you call them, and I'm over the age bracket Transformers is probably geared towards. I'm also more interested in FF2, Iron Man, Hulk, The Dark Knight, Spiderman 3...none of which have teasers. Hell I can't wait for Rambo IV. Transformers is the riskiest big budget release I've seen in a long long time...since well...the Island. But I loved the Island.

No I actually loved that film especially thet first time I saw it. I caught an advanced screening and was blown away. I had no idea what it was about or anything and was wowed. I bought the DVD and have seen it at least 3 or 4 more times. So no it's not an overstatement unless your position is you can't love a movie.

Probably. In the hands of a better director, the movie might have a better execution. As would ANY movie, for that matter. But that does not mean I regard Bay's direction of the movie as utter crap.
But I'm not fanatic. I know that The Island is nowhere near Gattaca or other similar cinematic gems.

i dunno how you came to the conclusion that it ripped off of the Matrix, Blade Runner, or Planet of the Apes...but even if they had similar elements, you could easily say that most sci fi movies now-a-days have elements of sci fi movies that've already been made...that doesn't necessarily mean they ripped those elements off. that's like saying Terminator ripped off of Lost in Space for using robots...

If that's the case, every sci-fi movie made since then has ripped them off. You can only do so much original sci-fi.

1) I am over 30.
2) Spiderman has a much broader fan base than Trasnformers will ever have. It appeals to all demographics. Transformers does not. I don't know a single person (offline) that has any desire to see Trasnformers. Once I see the trailer I might change my mind.
You see most kids growing up they fantasize about having special powers, being a hero, etc...Kids and adults can relate to characters like Peter Parker because he has flaws, he's not perfect, he's vulnerable, yet he can do things we'd all love to do. I don't think anyone growing up ever could relate to a truck that turns into a robot and most people that are mentally stable don't fantasize about being a hunk of metal. Transformers doesn't have 50 years of storylines and character development. It had action figures and an animated movie. It's cool as a child to tinker with those toys but to make such a huge production based on them to me is the riskiest venture to date.

Spider-man (not Spiderman) has 44 years of history...of course it has a much broader fan base. Your office is not a good example of an entire demographic. Spider-man the movie had very good word of mouth and was able to appeal to everyone...what do you think this movie is going to try and do?

Transformers doesn't have 50 years of storylines and character development.
Spider-man doesn't have 50 years either...only 44. It had action figures and an animated movie.
You are very ignorant on the history of Transformers so please don't speak of it like you know about it. It's cool as a child to tinker with those toys but to make such a huge production based on them to me is the riskiest venture to date.

^ Who did I insult??? Do you fantasize about being a piece of metal? Read before your comment...I was making a point about why spider-man has a broader fanbase. Grow up please.
Tranformers and Spider-Man are not in the same league. There was nothing risky about making a Spider-Man movie. The fanbase is enormous and the franchise has consistently been visible to the public since its inception. You can't walk down the street without seeing something releated to spider-man even before the film. There were several animated series, a live action tv series, 44 years of stories in various formats from comic books, childrens books, etc...An unending supply of toys, video games, and crossovers with other popular characters, etc...
The whole point of this argument was what demographic these things appeal to. I brought up my age because someone else did.

I think you're right for the most part. I think part of the hoopla or appeal for Gen-X'ers (and a small part of Gen-Y) is that it's like "Hey, they're making a movie about my stuff. MY stuff." It will be a similar thing with Knight Rider (if and) when it comes out.
Having said that, I think TF is special. Out of all the franchises and toys of the time (and there were LOTS... not just easy-to-rememer stuff like Gobots or MOTU but some things we've all forgotten about like Insectaurs, MASK, etc etc) Transformers had one of the most compelling and believable sci-fi backstory. It was amazing. Sadly, most of that seems discarded by the upcoming movie.

I agree that Spider-man does have a broader fan base, but Transformers have fans from the 80's and fans today because of Energon, Cybertron and Armada. Everyone knows what a Transformer is. If I like the trailers...I'll go and see it for sure. Some how they're going to have to make the characters very interesting and flesh out a great story or it'll be another Godzilla. The Star Wars toys were based on a trilogy of films that had some of the greatest "human" characters of all time. They were the heroes not robots. It was cool as a kid imagining yourself as Han Solo, Luke, or even Darth. Not very many kids wanted to pretend they were R2D2 unless they were joking. The toys around these characters were things they interacted with like the fighters, ships, guns, and various other action figures that we grew up watching on the big screen. We'll see if Transformers the movie has that kind of impact on toys but I can't imagine the characters in this film having the same appeal. Your snide comments about "transformers dolls" was a legitimate point? Seemed like a sideways insult to me? Its all the same...it was all originally geared toward children. Do you think that Spider-man was geared toward the adult market when it was first released in 1962? It was geared to kids who collected comics...the kids grew up and their kids read the comics. Its pretty much the same thing with Transformers...how does it differ aside from the fact that they are robots?
People drive cars...there's your relation...there were some cool vehicles that people could relate to. One of the most popular Transformer toylines today are the Alternator line that use today's cars as models for original Transformers. People had to relate to it somehow if Transformers are still around today...20 years of nothing but "action figures and an animated movie" is nothing to turn your nose up to.
It seems like YOU can't relate to Transformers so you can't find anything positive to say about it.

Like I said before A LOT relies on the next teaser. It has to get people pumped. If this teaser blows people away, word of mouth to offline people will spread like crazy. People who see this teaser in the movies will have to be blown away too, to get word around as well. But the name Transformers will interest a lot of movie goers no matter what.

You see, you cannot find a way to relate to Transformers. When I was a kid and I saw a big red semi driving down the highway I thought of how cool it would be to see it Transform right then and there into a huge robot. Just like when I was a kid and I was in NY I looked up and wanted to see Spider-man swinging from building to building. You don't have to want to BE the characters but put yourself into their world...its not that difficult to understand.
What's the difference between "tinkering" with a Transformers toy and a Spider-man toy? There are PLENTY of adult Spider-man memorabilia collectors...same as Transformers. Hell, BOTCON is a HUGE toy-con.
I don't see how you can't see that they are essentially similar.

THERE!! You NAILED it! That's what a lot of Transformer fans are worried about because Michael Bay is not known for character development or story driven movies...whereas Sam Raimi's movies were more compelling both visually and storywise. There is MORE than enough story to draw from the history of the Transformers to make a great sci-fi movie...it just needs to correct person with enough vision to realize it. We'll see how it turns out but you can't blame the Transformers franchise for a director's possible lack of vision.

Yep. The teaser is very important and the marketing. Hell the first FF film was mediocre but the teaser was pretty cool and the marketing was tremendous. It enabled the franchise to continue, gave confidence to the studio to take a bigger risk with the sequel, and hopefully that franchise will continue. But imagine a studio taking 100 million dollars and making Monopoly the movie. The game has a huge fanbase does't it so you'd think it'd make hundreds of millions. I'm being slightly sarcastic but I had to...to make my point.

Yup. Unfortunately, he managed to dumbed-down and castrate that cool storyline. In the hands of someone like Andrew Niccol or even Paul Verhoeven The Island could have been a classic.

There have been bigger risks on lesser franchises. Transformers is a household name...maybe notsomuch as comic book foundations like Spider-man or Batman, but its still relatively well known.

I can't think of any bigger risks. The Island was a big risk that flopped in the US but did better overseas. I'd say Godzilla was a big risk too, Wild Wild West, Waterworld, and others. I'm not saying this because the flopped but because of the material/content was awful.

Transformers is a risk the same way (forgive me for getting all CFlash here) Godzilla '98 was a risk:
They are taking something that is very well known with a loyal & passionate fanbase and trying to reimagine it. Tell a story that is different than what has been done before. I hope they pull it off, and I'm confident they can. But if it sucks, it'll be a colossal letdown for me.

There are plenty...the majority of comic book movies like Daredevil ($78 mil), Blade, Hellboy ($66 mil), V for Vendetta ($54 mil)...etc. Now the budget for Transformers might be higher...but it has the backing of Steven Spielberg as exec producer...so it has higher expectations to deliver.

When you try to "reimagine" a story in an outrageously different way (like Godzilla 98... and IMO Bay's Transformers), it's not really the same story now is it? Why call it the same name?
Heck, even the new Galactica... (which I don't like--- great writing notwithstanding, I just can't stomach them wearing Timberland boots and having explosives with the word C4 stamped on them) manages to hit all the same beats and plot points as the original. Those guys got it right (in most ways).
When you take Gojira, strip him of nuke fire, make France the bad guys, and have him run away from the military like a whiny b*tch, it's not Godzilla. It's a PARODY.

Stealth is kind of an example of what I'd be concerned about if I was a producer. It's the story of fighter plane that becomes self aware. Hello? Yes the robots are an alien race from Cybertron. The robots were made by an alien race. Cybertron is a small planet once used by the Quintessons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quintessons) as a factory to create assembly lines of soldiers and workers. Following a rebellion, the workers became the Autobots (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Autobots) and the soldiers became the Decepticons (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Decepticons). During Optimus Prime (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Optimus_Prime) and Megatron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Megatron)'s four million year absence, Shockwave (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shockwave_%28Transformers%29) keeps the planet in stalemate until Megatron awakes in 1984, and he conquers the planet until 2005.
When the autobots were weaker fighting the deceptions so they disguised themselves for stealth on cybertron. When on Earth they scanned machines to take form as a disguise. The Deceptions on cybertron also learnt how to disguise themselves too. They didn't decide to land on earth, they crashed there millions of years ago and layed dormant.

Lots of screenplays have soooo much potential but are consistently ruined by horrible directors and hack producers that insist on "certain things" (like big spiders--- (Kevin Smith fans will get the joke)). You can take a ludicruously simple story like "A History of Violance" and serve it up as a cinema gem in the right hands (which Croneberg did IMO).
I mean, can you imagine A History of Violence in the hands of Michael Bay? Dear lord!!! It would make me vomit. You mention Stealth: Well, heck, even a simple "fighter plane" story can be made watchable and interesting with atmosphere and good filmmaking... look up Clint Eastwood's FireFox.

It doesn't take 100 million dollars to make History of Violence does it? Films like Hulk, Spiderman, X-Men, Fantastic Four take loads of money to produce and advertise. These are not supposed to cater to the artsy crowd looking for the next academy award nominees. Nitpicking at the most ridiculous details and not just sitting down and enjoy the fact that someone's putting your favorite characters on the big screen. Nobody's making this film for a small group of people to enjoy. This is for the masses period. It can't be overly complicated, too dark, or too cheesey...or it'll NOT make money. The characters are very colorful and when people here a Hulk movies coming out they did NOT expect Ang Lee's vision. I enjoyed it but that's not for everyone. It turned alot of people off. All I really ever cared about was the advanced race (flying, mass changing Decepticons) suppressing the inferior slave race (largely earth bound, menial labor Autobots). On Earth searching for natural resources to feed their planet, themselves, and their war. It was pure brilliant sci-fi... and a commentary on the human condition (as all good sci-fi is). For me, the "energy" aspect was at the core of Transformers.
Guardians were cool (Omega Supreme). And I also thought the Quintessons were cool too (though that story could have been handled better). Once it started getting "mythical" (Primus/Unicron bla bla bla) I totally stopped caring. I understand those stories were well-written tho(probably better than the Furman/Budiansky ones).... they just weren't my cup of tea.

Like the Cylons in the original Battlestar Galactica you don't know who created them, if they evolved naturally, nor do you really care. It doesn't matter. That mystery was part of the appeal. Nobody knows who created humans either... if we came together naturally in the waters of primordial Earth, fell from the sky in a comet as amino acid chains, or were plopped here by some almighty being.

We should have a comet vs primoridial ooze thread LOL. However more favored or not the comet theory makes more sense how life get's around. Maybe the comet itself came from a destroyed planet that had water on it's surface. With the planet gone whatever water remained would freeze and if anything was alive in there it might possibly survive...like bacteria. It then roams around the stars till it crashes somewhere that's inhabitable and life goes on. But then where did the life on that planet start from. Arghhhhhhhh!

At first glance, that robot looks like Shockwave with the single red eye.
Awesome trailer. Definately like the Optimus Prime transformation shot.
The trailer establishes a very good "sense of dread" with the Decepticons. I can really see the fans/crowd going crazy when the Autobots show up to fight them.
CGI looked very solid. Nothing in the trailer looked like obvious CGI and they still have 7 months to work on the effects.
Kinda bummed we didn't get to see any of their laser weapons firing.
I wonder if the shot with the jets features Starscream?
I give the trailer 9/10.
Would have been perfect if they had let Cullen/Optimus talk. :woot:

That felt more like random clips of footage than a trailer. The jury is still out on this one for me. Some of the clips looked cool, it's obviously a big production but will this be just another Godzilla or turn out to be the next ID4 at the box office. The trailer seemed hollow and it could have been much better with some better editing and some killer music to pump you up for the film. Remember how bad ass The Island trailer was with that music blasting during the action sequences and it actually flowed right.

^ No it's not supposed to feel like just "random" clips. A trailer is supposed to give you a brief synopsis of the story and the footage is supposed to be put together in a way that flows from start to finish. Do you honeslty think they randomly spun a wheel to throw footage together. That's how it felt though. Most trailers kind of fill you in a bit more and the scenes are in an order that fit together. This had some cool parts but it was mishmashed. Anyways my point was it didn't show me enough yet and it didn't get me primed to watch it. It still has my interest but that didn't do it yet.

^ Oh now the name calling begins. So a brief synopsis that flows from start to finish that lasts about 90 seconds would replace the entire 2 hour film. Who's the dummy? This teaser just didn't get me excited about the film but I am still interested in the next full trailer to see if it is something I'll go and see. If this is just a short teaser it's easy to forgive so I can wait but you're dead wrong...all good trailers summarize the film and hopefully don't spoil too much and should get you excited to see the film. ONe good example was Elektra. I thought that trailer was awesome. The footage flowed, the music was cool, and it gave a nice synopsis of the film. Unfortunately the only decent parts of that film were in the trailer. The trailer was great and the film sucked. I've also seen some lousy trailers where the film was awesome.

You know the story as do most of the people who are on SHH who frequent this forum have the script...but I'm just learning about it and honestly the rest of the world probably doesn't know the story. I've never said anything to suggest this movie was gonna be bad so some of you need to relax. The worst I've said is that this is a risky production that I did NOT see how it would make it's money back. I've asked alot of questions to learn some things about the whole premise, and I went to that script thread to check it out. The teaser showed that this is a huge production but it didn't get me excited. I understand how many of you are cause you're seeing these things on the big screen. But as an outsider it didn't grab me. Not yet. I said I'll give it a chance and I'm open to watching it if the project gets me excited as time goes on. There's no need for some of you (not you X) for getting hostile or calling names. In fact you can check to see how I voted in the poll too. I'm not trashing this film...just not pulled in by it yet. The trailer/teaser though was edited poorly IMO but that being said...the footage looked very promising.

that's why they call it a TEASER trailer and not a THEATRICAL trailer. teaser trailers are only supposed to entice you, not fully seduce you...
...besides i'm tired of trailers that show everything (including how the bad guys are defeated) ala Spider-Man 3.

This is really purple and the red looks pink too. Looks almost desaturated from the rest of the shot.
Royal Blue to be exact. :cwink:
Along with the pool scene this is my favorite part tho. I don't know why, because it's not particularly good. A better shot would have been from the ground up.

I'm sure they'll have views from different angles in that scene. Showing his head popping out of his chest from the front would look goofy, especially in the scene where he's first introduced. A shot from the back is more mysterious, and builds up to the full reveal. Thank god you're not doing the cinematography on this.

It's called shadow and lighting. You can show a "HUMAN perspective" view without giving away very much. Michael Bay is not known for his realistic or emotion inducing cinematography.
Still, it was a cool scene.
And, P.S. keep your idiotic personal "thank god you're bla bla" comments to yourself. You have no idea who you're talking to.

Um, it was a brief moment. Not the entire scene. It's called building up to the money shot, which will probably be something like you suggested. And neither are you.
P.S. A whiney fanboy?

Usually the money shot IS that overhead scene... it's an exclamation point.... where you see the situation from an alternative (not you/human) point of view).
Man have you ever looked up at a tall building? That's not a money shot. You usually can't even see THE TOP of the building. The money shot is the top down.
P.S. You, troll?
Substand D. for Don Murphy?

No, the money shot would be the full reveal. You catch glimpses, adding mystery and tension, then the camera pulls back and you see everything full on. A shot of Optimus from a low angle would make him look imposing and powerful. It's been used in comics and movies to emphasize heroism and strength since forever. I really hope you weren't implying that you're a filmmaker in your earlier post. It seems you really have a terrible eye when it comes to cinematography.
PS. C for... I can't say it or I'll get banned.

If I were a cinematographer or director, your comment as a fan of a guy, Michael Bay, who is consistently derided as one of the worst filmmakers of ALL TIME, would be a compliment. Thank you.

Hmm, too bad I never said I was a Micheal Bay fan. And if he's one of the worst filmmakers of all time, and he's directing multi-million dollar productions, what does that say about you? A person who hints at being knowledgeable on filmmaking, yet who hasn't directed any well-known films and shows no eye for setting up a scene at all?
Is it just me, or does CFlash get really dumb and trollish whenever big news comes out? I think he needs to go back to playing with his 80's figures and leave the movie alone.

CFlash, it almost sounds as if you don't want to like it. Granted, we haven't really been shown much in this trailer, so I'm not sure why the critique is being done on such small clips that really don't have much context. Is it because it's a Michael Bay film that you are critiquing the small clips so closely? Please don't take this as an attack. I am genuinely curious.

Um, CFlash has done nothing but complain since this board was created. He was like the Spanish Inquisition of these boards, labeling everyone who supported the movie as a troll. He was getting better, but it seems the new trailer has reignited the fire within him.

I liked the scene. It cemented my opinion that Optimus is the best part of this movie. But, no, the scene wasn't particularly good as far as scenes go (think better scenes in WOTW trailers). The movie looks cool because it is, after all, based big robots. But, if you strip out our excitement... all you got is a typical cheese fest IMO.
We're all just lowering our expectations I think. We're all gonna have to check our intellect at the door and just go in for a fun- ultimately forgettable- eye candy ride.
P.S. Trust me. I REALLY REALLY want to love this movie. But that trailer was dumb. Cool-looking... but dumb.

:whatever: You were nitpicking a very brief part of the scene. Of course they're not going to show the money shot for the trailer. Shame on them for wanting to keep some things secret, so people have a reason to pay 8.50 opening day.
I can't beleive you're talking about how dumb this movie is going to be. Have you seen the original cartoon? It's dumb as hell. The movie can only be an improvement.
