I mean, like what someone here pointed out, his 'protoform' was more porportional. Here, he has small weird legs and gun hands...an odd design I suppose when you compare him to his cartoon counterpart (which isn't a bad design in the first place)

What people need to remember with these slightly dodgy Ebay toys is that they look like they are samples and not the finished items which will (almost certainly) look and fit together better.

BTW: These are mini transformers hence why the little to no detail in the parts. I really hope the bigger ones are much much better!

the bottom line is that the toys suck. However, they are a.)Prototypes and b.) Pretty much more simplied versions of the bots themselves.

If you compare the design of Optimus Prime (Empire Magazine cover) to his toy counterpart, it's quite drastic.

And who knows..maybe these aren't the main toyline..

Starscream will probably look much better in the movie. I'm just concerned that he'll look too much of a minion than a conflicted 'second in command' type. From the toy design, he looks like a drone.

So my question would be, was the whole Megatron changing into Galvatron thing something that the cartoon cooked-up becasue they couldn't kill off Megs in the 86 movie because it's clearly known he's indestructable...?

I believe that is correct...he and Ultra Magnus were both "city commanders" or something...Magnus went with Metroplex and Galvatron went with Trypticon...

It looks fairly accurate. Jazz should be a bit shorter.... based on the sizes published by Michael Bay over at his forums.

Bumblebee: 17 feet tall
Ratchet: 24 feet tall
Iron Hide: 26 feet tall
Optimus Prime: 28 feet tall
Megatron: 34 feet tall

They should put a human for reference. He'd be below BB's kneecap.

As you can see, for a cheap toy the proportions are pretty good. Aside from the cockpit canopy being slightly smaller and moved forward (clearly because on the hinge placement behind it) it's about as good as this cheap toy could hope to get. So that means those lame ass guns under the wing are laughably huge. It does not mean the wings were molded disproportionally small, as was suggested.

The designs are starting to grow on me ... cant wait till I see these on the big-screen. Still , im suprised Megatron has been given such a different look compared to his G1 counterpart.


Atleast Bumblebee looks , somewhat , like Bumblebee.
Prime looks like Prime ( apart from a different Pimp my Truck paintjob )
Megatron doesnt even look G1'ish ( is that a word? ) but im SURE it will be made clear in the film.

damn, those look tight. look's like the autobots will be pulling off some graceful acrobatic moves. They look like they have alot of mass too from these angles, making them look less like bionicles. I agree. Looking at both the pics above, it seems like they "fleshed out" a lot of the jointy parts. Prime's right thigh and torso look solid. BB looks like a fat weightlifting midgit. Not bad.

Sorry I was refering to that latest pic that sees him on the book cover striking a pose.The pic on the Empire cover was an actual 3D model render from ILM, where as the pic on the book cover is still one of the artists renderings of the design. The chest in the final ILM 3d model ended up the way it did due to the "physics" of the transformation and shows off more kibble. I dig that personally, since the protrusions are part of the nose of the truck, it makes Prime look more like a Transformer than the concept designs.

I'm still not feeling the face on Barricade, and as for the protoforms that have been revealed to be exactly as leaked? Just another nail in the proverbial coffin... Is Michael Bay at the point where he just refuses to listen to anything any fan has to say, or has it truly been like this since Day 1? I'm leaning towards the latter.

EDIT: Oh Jesus...I just saw that render of Megatron. It's even worse than the low-res small version from before. I looked at his feet, was happy for about 0.1667 of a second...and then I saw that the rest of him was a 3-D render of every single detail we saw in the production art.

Who do you think throws Optimus Prime on that window? In the leaked script, their fight scene is just sketched. But Bay being Bay, I guess he spruced it up for a fitting ending.
