Ok how about this, who do you think looks better, Megatron or Starscream? You can't say niether :cmad:
In terms of basic robot forms (non Tf- related) I go with Megatron: sure his hands look odd but I like the design overall as a robot, not a Tf though.

Starscream just looks sloppy; Nathan got it on the nose for how I feel. The main thing is proportion. He is painfully lacking in that, even for an aesthetic angle. He doesn't look like he can be targetting an autobot, flying at high speeds, transform mid air and blast his target while he's dramatically falling to the ground with style. Starscream is arrogant and I always got the vibe that if he was human he'd be a prettyboy punk of sorts. In this form I can't really see that confidence working.

It's hard to say. Even Prime's toy version is a very simplisitc incarnation than the movie version (compared to the leaked pix and the Empire Mag cover).

Of course, Starscream will look better in the movie but I don't get the short legs either. Honestly, the figure is looking better than the prototype (so far) but it's such a bad pic that it's hard to tell.

Megatron, design-wise, looks alright but then again, he won't appear (?) in his earth form yet, so give it time.

IMO, if Starscream had the recognizable face, he'd look even worse. Normal head with disproportional chicken body doesn't mix.

The animalistic look for Starscream should have been scrapped at the drawing board. We already have someone who hints at Beast Wars in relevance to the greater franchise. He's called Scorponok, and there was no huge redesign to make him look like a scorpion. I just don't see why this new design was forced upon Starscream's look. All it did was make him disproportionate and animalistic for no discernable reason. Even if I absolutely hate Megatron's look, I can understand a relevancy to the so-so storyline. This has none at all, and it's not as if the design is a battle form. This is the real deal, done for no reason at all.

I really wish I would've been present at one of those Don Murphy interviews, so I could've asked the simple question, "Why does Starscream look like ****?"

I really want to know their reasoning behind that decision. I swear, it better not be anything stupid like "The F-22 doesn't allow for a proportional Transformation." Because that Starcsream has more than enough mass, and since their Transformation is totally complex in the movie a porportional Starcsream shouldn't be a problem at all.

I don't think it has a single thing to do with proportion. Megatron could have been anything, and was instead redesigned to be...well, what he ended up being. That shows that given a template they will just do random things at their whim. I don't think this has a single thing to do with technical limitations. They've just been looking at conceptual art and greenlighting it because it looks 'cool' or 'modern' without asking for improvement beforehand. Remember, all of this art seems to have been done far in advance. They've had loads of time to change. They're only now making a few unnoticeable changes because they realize that their designs are going horribly with their "test audience".

I'm sure there's a very good reason Bay scrapped the mega-popular G1 version of Starscream and made him look like a chicken-ape. We just can't understand his genius.

Bay's vision for Transformers is truly ambitious. Most directors would never think to put a cheesy flame paintjob on a dignified character like Optimus. But Bay had the vision to stiff-arm millions of fans to make an unispired and completely superficial change to a beloved icon. What a guy.

Flames on Optimus. No one thought of that before. We're dealing with a real visionary.

on a side note, what is with these designers? what is with Bay and Murphy?

BB looks like a bee, right down to having his doors become wings

SS has a scream face and raptor legs

It's like a 12 year old it designing these things

Given I can't find a picture of the Gigantic Dark with the extensions to the armor, that's the closest pic I could use. In the hyper GD you see the exact shape of head, hands and torso. Sorry if it sounds vague or the picture of plain ol' vanilla Gigantic wasn't enough.

I'd have to agree. Understand- to me, this is a great stand-alone design. If this were a design in Robotech, Gundam or Guyver I'd think it would look really intriguing. But as a concept of Megatron in the Transformers film this 'improvement' hasn't really made the effort worth it. I don't hate it...it's just not Megatron to me.

But as a concept of Megatron in the Transformers film this 'improvement' hasn't really made the effort worth it. I don't hate it...it's just not Megatron to me.Definitely reminds me of something Godzilla would be fighting in a Japanese film, or some Guyver/Zeiram hybrid on steroids, and it definitely could hang with the Zentrati in Robotech...but not Megatron.

At least I can look forward to this...

I feel like some people are obligated to say that this Megatron figure sucks because of the movie version. Though UNFINISHED, I'm going out on a limb and say that this Megatron toy looks great. Not faithful but still badass.

Prime looks fantastic. Besides the paintjob with the flames, he's damn faithful (as long as he doesn't have a mouth).

I've seen ONLY one production picture with Prime's 'mouth'.

However, the toys and that Empire pic, he has his mouth guard on.

Wow...I'm gone for a couple of days to come back to these awesome toys. My toy worries have definitely dissipated. I'll definitely be buying those two. I can only hope they are Masterpiece quality with a little die-cast metal thrown in. Then again like someone said before, if Megs is die-cast metal then I'm sure tetanus shots are going to skyrocket amongst Transformer fans.

That's just Gigantic Dark with a few parts lit up...I'm talking about with the Creator-forged extensions. The kind that make him look hefty with the shoulders even moreso disproportionate.

The minicon-esque sidekick Scorponock toy (and previously, the weird Frenzy one) are really really dumb and cheap. Even the old original 1983 keychain Bumblejumper toys were better).

I'm fairly certain that the stages are supposed to signify more than just simply the ends of the wings jutting out, but at that the moment I can hardly tell what else is occuring outside of just that. The vehicle cannons aren't surprising, though the "arm cannon" is- on some level, I expected it to have a larger barrel than what we saw in Bumble Bee's. This one just seems to have length. Not bad at all, just an odd thing to see.

Definitely reminds me of something Godzilla would be fighting in a Japanese film, or some Guyver/Zeiram hybrid on steroids, and it definitely could hang with the Zentrati in Robotech...but not Megatron.

At least I can look forward to this...

these are simplified versions of the more complicated toys that will be released later on so yes these are for younger kids they are the Fast Action Battler sets

To be honest

1) The toys in 1984 ROCKED compared to anything. You don't find toys as nice as Soundwave, Optimus Prime or Megatron made in diecast metal anymore. Those were more than just toys, they had character.

2) The toys for this movie pass as far as I am concerned. I've seen so many types of Optimuses and Megatrons I can stand different versions. The movie though is what sucks. The designs, frankly, could be a part of an epic Transformer film: they just aren't. So the story only enhances any bad qualities they have already...but I wouldn't tout them as the worst TFs ever.

There is definatly some good toys coming out for the movie, but most are the exspensive range, just remember you get what you pay for.

I'm seeing three different ranges of toys for this movie so far.

First we have the cheap kiddie transforming toys for the kids (duh!)

Then we have the normal Plastic transformers for everyone else.

Finally it looks like they'll bring out a range of highly detailed non-transforming models, probably with both Bot and Alt modes available (which would be cool i think)

The package shows the names for some of the bots which were previously unknown, the name for the phone bot is Speed Dial and the name for the handheld game bot is Power Up.

That is, actually, what makes me saddest about this film- not the truth that it will make loads of cash off of people just going to see it because it has pretty explosions, but that this will get sequels and probably replace the public mindset about what this was about to begin with. After seeing what we've seen I can only see more cash-ins in the future at the expense of the original material.

This and the first high quality optimus toy posted are definitely my fave 2 so far from this movie. Though I don't like Megatron's design...his high quality toy looks great to me as well. Can't wait to get them.
