Bingo! They do the same in most movie ad campaigns. The assumption is that the general audience doesn't pay attention to who makes the films, but they will remember similar films and think "Gee, I liked that movie, so I might like this one".

I find it very telling about the poster that made that comment as a slam against Michael Bay, and ignored the glaringly obvious fact that they gave Spielberg the same treatment, in the same sentence.

Right, because the Army would rather use a GMC over a Hummer because of its "ruggedness." Don't confuse an H2 or an H3 with a real Hummer. A real Hummer could drive through a GMC.

I simply responded to your statement that a movie team would think a fiberglass POS GMC would make more sense to use for Ironhide than a domestically unstoppable steel beast like the original Hummer, a statement I disagreed with BECAUSE the Army itself uses Hummers as their all-terrain vehicles because they can take the most beating and still run. So, why would a movie team pick a GMC over a Hummer, when they had full support from GM AND the Army for this production. The only thing I can think of is that a GMC would be less conspicuous on the road than a Hummer. But I think people are probably more used to seeing Hummers on the road now anyway, so it's not a really strong argument. The fact is that they just didn't think it through.

But you're right, it's not More Than Meets The HAND, it's More Than Meets The EYE, and VISUALLY a Hummer is more of a match for Ironhide than a normal truck anyday. I was speaking about appearances, not actual compositions, but I see you missed that.

Actually since Ironhide was a family camper van in G1 a family GMC SUV is a better match than an army hummer

That comparison is not accurate in this case.

The 'shell' for the H2 [what Ratchet is] and the H3 may say Hummer but they are built on existing GM truck/SUV platforms. The H2 uses a modified GMT820 platform {the platform is also used for the Chevy Tahoe & GMC Yukon} - meaning it's essentially a large truck. It's nothing to sneeze at mind you as the H2 is still a fairly capable vehicle - it's just not an HMMWV.

The H1 is largely identical to the HMMWV though there are still some differences.

I downloaded the latest wallpapers on my laptop and being how they're large I can't really post them and being how we're not doing anything in class I figured I would discuss it and try to resize the images later.

But, for those who do have the wallpapers I noticed something rather odd Monday that just passed.

Anyone notice the japanese writing on Optimus and Megatron?

Is this japanese? chinese? Or is it a first clue that we might get to see cybertron symbols aka writing?

No one is really sure what language the sybols are. People have looked into them but haven't found anything.

It's thought that they may be Tattoos of some kind or Tribal markings or even just doodles the artists snuck into the posters

I actually like the way most of the faces look now except for Ratchet. His face looks a cross between a chipmunk and a walrus. What's very interesting is the character Brawl who had a smaller role in G1 looks more similar to the way he than over half of the characters.

i like that H2 not only for the fact that it's the correct color for iron hide, but it looks similar to his G1 version, without being a van and maintains a level of ruggedness for the character.
and ratchet...well, he's an ambulance. he's a medic, and the idea that a plain, run of the mill ambulance could be a giant robot is great to me. the fact that it doesn't catch your eye right away makes it a great diguise. remember the tagline, more than meets the eye.

i don't think hound needs an update. the jeep wrangler is still a popular vehicle and fits the character like a glove.

thats because the rim in the movie isnt really a rim at all. its a hubcap made to look like the concept rim.. hence no caliper on the faux rotor.
infact, thats not even a real camaro, its a pontiac gto (holden manaro) with a camaro shaped shell, all built by saleen. (correct me if im wrong)

but hey.. id love to have some hubcaps like that :)

Its starting to grow on me how different the Autobots are from the Decepticons. I kinda like it.

Thankfully, that's the only thing Go-botish about this film and it doesn't bother me to much. Hopefully, there will be an explanation for why the autobot and decepticon robot modes look so different.

No it makes sense to give them visual differences. People who are going to see this movie for the first time with their kinds and seeing the 2 different factions makes sense.

Kids go out of the cinema and tell dad : "Gee daddy , that spikey Barricade was one nasty critter eh?"

Instead of : "Gee daddy , that thing I barely didnt recognize because he looked so similair to the others was one nasty critter eh?"

I'd rather NOT have a rehash of the Transformers Movie.

Because it succumbs to the same common cliches that other (IMHO weaker) cartoons succumb to. Ugly totally different bad-guys, Super-cool hot-rod main star, very simplistic "Quest" (Macguffin) plot (Gobots/Last Engineer, MOTU/Skeletor trying to get into Castle Grayskull, etc etc).

Transformers challenged all that. And so have most of the truly *great* franchises that came after it (I guess just my opinion) like TMNT, Gargoyles, Teen Titans, etc.

I'm not saying all other cartoons but Transformers sucked (I'm a MOTU fan too). I'm just saying this movie should be faithful to what made Transformers special.

Because it succumbs to the same common cliches that other (IMHO weaker) cartoons succumb to. Ugly totally different bad-guys, Super-cool hot-rod main star, very simplistic "Quest" (Macguffin) plot (Gobots/Last Engineer, MOTU/Skeletor trying to get into Castle Grayskull, etc etc).

LOL. I don't remember there being any explaination for why Skeletor wanted to get into Castle Grayskull and why the Gobots were after the last engineer. However, it makes perfect sense why the transformers are going after the allspark if it can be used to create life and destroy it.

And so have most of the truly *great* franchises that came after it (I guess just my opinion) like TMNT, Gargoyles, Teen Titans, etc.

Nothing personal but, I thought the TMNT cartoon of the 80s was crap. Gargoyles was okay and I love the Titans cartoon.

I'm not saying all other cartoons but Transformers sucked (I'm a MOTU fan too). I'm just saying this movie should be faithful to what made Transformers special.

I thought what made transformers special was seeing robots changing shape. Some of the lyrics to the original theme song clearly defined the coolness factor of transformers.

When I first saw that crappy cartoon I thought it was a comedy because practially every episode that I saw had little to no action. 95% of the episodes consisted of the following scenario:

Shredder or Krang come up with an idiotic plan to finish off the turtles. The turtles kick Beebop and Rocksteady's ass. Shredder or Krang's plan backfires. The end.:oldrazz:

i think the levels are free-roam but it's said that there are 9 different environments. i don't know if that means they'll have to load the environment everytime ala GTA3 or not, though i doubt it. next gen consoles should be able to handle 9 different environments without having to load them everytime...

I never said there weren't many other crappy cartoons in the 80s. The only action cartoons I liked were Transformers and GI Joe. There was something special about the comic. That's why the new cartoon and movie were almost completely different in every way. What was so unique about the original cartoon? Those two examples you pointed out aren't the best ones either. Inhumaniods had a terrible air time(early sunday morning) and was way to disgusting for kids to enjoy. The problem with C.O.P.S. was the toyline didn't generate enough money to justify continuing the series. In the 80s 90% of the action cartoons were created for the purpose of selling a toyline. If the kids didn't like the toys then the series would die out. Transformers, TMNT, He-Man, Robotech, Thundercats, GI Joe, and Silverhawks all had unique toys. These cartoons lasted for more then one season and their toys sold well. There was nothing unique about the C.O.P.S. toyline so kids ignored it, the seires died out and the rest is history. A final thing to note is that TMNT didn't have to compete with any of the above cartoons except C.O.P.S. All of those cartoons had died out when TMNT hit the air. I would have liked to see how TMNT would have done if it came out in 1984 during the transformers, He-Man, and GI Joe craze. There's no way it would have been as successful with that competition.

You say you liked G.I. Joe, right? BTW, G.I. Joe was actually my favorite toys/toon/comic (I couldn't afford Transformers). But I've always thought (even at the age of 9) that the G.I. Joe cartoon was utter complete crap compared to the brilliant comic book. Obviously, you saw something in it. It's not "crap" to you. But in fact, TMNT the cartoon was actually more faithful to the comic book than G.I. Joe was.

One of the writers and Don Murphy both said the classic transformers sound would be in the film. Harry Knowles said the classic transformers sound was in the footage of the special screening event in New York a few months back. I'm sure some form of the classic sound will be in the movie.

I'm not saying it doesn't happen elsewhere in movies. You're probably right that it does. The geek and hot chick cliche' is pretty common, but this one is almost taken to extremes. Megan Fox is hot is an extremely hawt/****ty/pure sex type of way, while Shia screams "massive nerd" right down to his naturally curly hair. Tobey and Kirsten seem a little more on par, plus Peter Parker (at least in the comics) is portrayed as moderately to very handsome.

Megan Fox and Shia don't play off each other well at all, in any picture.

It's easier for us, as people who live in the real world, to detach ourselves from physical norms than it is to detach ourselves from social norms I think. We've always written about pretty extrordinary things like Gods, indestructable warriors, Superheroes, etc, etc. But all those stories tend to operate in a world that is bounded by similar social norms. You don't see Transformers world doing away with common courtesy like "please" and "thank you", you don't see movies where actors use drastically different body language than what is normal, so I think something like a hawt chick who seems way out of place looks a lot less "normal" to us than giant talking robots.

true...they don't LOOK like they would ever hook up with each other but i've seen couples far worse than them. one of my chick friends looked like she could've been Megan's sister. she ended up with a guy that looks like a reject from Revenge of the Nerds.....but he's a very cool and genuinely nice guy, which is probably why she's with him.
