Monday 14-Aug-2006 3:05 PM Which should give us plenty to be waving our wii-motes at
Nintendo's Wii looks set to launch with no fewer than 27 games on day one. We always said that, with blockbusting exclusives of the calibre of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Metroid Prime: Corruption, and Wii Sports, Ubisoft's Red Steel and Konami's bizarre Elebits, the Wii would sport the best launch line-up of any console ever, in terms of quality. And now it seems that the quantity is there, too.
According to our sources, the Wii's launch line-up will consist of the above mentioned, plus the following titles: Activision's Call of Duty 3, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance and Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam; Ubisoft's Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII, Far Cry, GT Pro Series, Open Season and Rayman Raving Rabbids; Nintendo's Excite Truck; EA's Need for Speed: Carbon and Madden NFL 07; THQ's Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cars and Spongebob Squarepants: Creature from the Krusty Krab; Midway's Blitz: The League; Atari's Dragonball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2; Square Enix' Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers; Sega's Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz; Atlus' Trauma Centre: Second Opinion; and SNK's Metal Slug Anthology. Phew.
According to Wikipedia - yes, we know it's sometimes unreliable, but it does tend to get this sort of thing right - there are a grand total of 151 games currently in development for the Wii. The only downside is that all that waving around of the Wii-mote is likely to give us very achy wrists.

Thats a damn good launch lineup... Pitty no Mario or SSB. Zelda is in though so thats good.
I am aleady getting Wii sports as the pack in game with the Wii at launch so thats good... It might just turn out to be as expensive as PS3 when I add up all the games I want at launch :D

It's ok though, it means that we can get our play time in for the launch games and then it won't get old because then Mario and SSB will come out.
I understand what you mean about the expense...my current purchase plan involves an extra controller or three.:O
Plus the classic controller.
Games will be bought: Metroid Prime: Corruption, Raymond: Raving Rabbids, and Elebits. (I don't know why, but that game sounds so appealing.:) )

To me it looks like the new Katamari, cute but addictive as nothing else. :O

That Avatar game could be fun because anyone who watches the show would no that different martial arts and movements are utilised between bending,so moving the controller differently could control what kind of bending you do.

I was gonna post this yesterday... it really looks good. Even a few of the multi-plat francise games with exclusive controls look interesting to me that hasn't appealed to me in some time.
I also like the fact that Smash Brothers and Mario aren't launch titles... they're securing a second wave of Wii-interest/sales when they hit, because everybody and their mother will be playing Smash brothers online, let alone the iconic Mario character in his own game once again.
Also, no one's talking about the potential (and innevitable) Mario Kart online experience. I think this is second to playing SB online for me... this is going to be f'ing phenominal.

I also am looking forward to Wii sports though, that's just got to be fun with the new controller.
Plus I am a huge fan of the Raymond series, and I am happy I'm going to get a new one to mess around with. Now if only they would move the Ratchet and Clank franchise to the Wii.
I'll have a PS3 when the price comes down, but I'm not going to want to have to wait that long to play the next R&C game.:(

I agree, they are securing the second wave of sales with those two not being launch. SSB itself is going to sell HUGE, if there was a system seller, that'll be it.
Then like you said, Mario Kart, and I'm sure we'll get a Starfox Wii, and how cool would it be to partake in huge Starfox online dogfights. I can't wait.

Plus, they're bringing back some old classics in new games. I can't wait to see who, specifically.
Then a Star Wars game, once the physics are worked out... I don't even like Star Wars, and I'm hyped.
And of course, when Wii's first real Zelda game launches, that'll be huge too. TP is a hybrid right now, so Zelda's first entry with full use of the controller, designed specifcally for the Wii will be amazing.

WiiSaber battles, Darth Vader will pee his pants when he sees that.:p
Then though, one of my biggest selling points is the near infinite classic games that we'll be able to download. I am pretty hyped to get to download such classics as Super Metroid, Earthbound, the Lufia Series and others like this.
Nintendo is really doing so much right with this new system.

Yeah, I keep forgetting about the bc with this. I just wish they'd release more pricing info. Not that it matters... I'm gonna be like a kid in the candy store here. I'm more excited about this system than I was about the SNES.

I'm more excited about the Wii than I was for the PS2, which is saying alot if you knew how excited I was for that one.
The difference also is this systems launch lineup will be worth the dough spent, which is more than I can say for the PS2's launch game lineup.:o

Ok, so doing more than skimming now, Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros won't be launch titles? Do they have a solid release date yet, or are they still "TBA"?

They'll be out very shortly after the Wii launch.

So, which games are you guys planning on purchasing on launch day? Here's my list:
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princes (Wii version)
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
Red Steel
Wii Sports
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Rayman Raving Rabids
Elebits
I also have a few others on the radar, but I have to investigate them further before I commit myself to a purchase. I am particularly interested in Sqaure Enix's Dragon Quest.

Twilight Princess is definitely the first thing I'm going for. The sheer amount of hours needed to complete the game (70 to 100!!) will more than make up for the time needed to make SSMB perfect.
Other than that, I'm likely getting Marvel:UA, definitely Red Steel and depending on price, Wii Sports. Rayman has a good chance of ending up on my list too. Depending on ratings, Prime 3.

Metroid and Zelda, maybe Red Steel, maybe Wii Sports, I'll need to play them before I decide. When they come out, I'll be getting Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros, and whenever it releases I'll be picked up the Camelot Software Planning RPG since that's what made me decide to get the system in the first place.

Nintendo say they are 'launch period' games, so release within 6 months of the console launch.

Mentok

Yes. A cube version and a Wii version.
The Wii version will only play with the wiimote but the Cube version will play in the Wii with the cube controller.

The DS version is difficult to describe. Essentially, you're a surgeon operating on patients with wounds. You also have a staff of nurses that aid you in your surgery. There's also a dramatic change in plot very soon into the game.
The game can get frustrating at times, but that's by design. It's intense. And it also makes great use of the DS functionality. Overall, a very welcome edition to the Nintendo DS. It's definitely worth a try on the Wii, which I hear will utilize the Nintendo DS as a controller.
And I also recommend that you look more into Elebits. It looks like a very good time. I know it looks a little obscure, but now that we're stepping into the new generation of gaming, I highly encourage everyone to step out of their comfort zones and try out games that would otherwise not appeal to them.
By the way, I've been hearing over the at IGN Boards that Nintendo will announce 5 new launch games at the conference in Lezpig, Germany on August 23. Rumors have been spreading that one of the announced games will be Miyamoto's new IP. Does anyone else have any other information?

Your probably right, plus that would be pretty cool.
I keep thinking how cool a next-gen Starfox Wii would be online. Major dogfights online would rock.
