EDIT: Zenien already posted a thread in another forum regarding this convention, but this thread is Nintendo-specific.
Nintendo is going to hold a special event, dubbed "Wii Prove Our Promise," in the video-gaming convention in Leipzing, Germany (LGC) this Wednesday. A lot of buzz has been generated surrounding this event as video-gaming sites report that 5 new first-party titles will be announced for the launch window of the Wii. Many fans are already speculating that Miyamoto will reveal his latest Nintendo IP. This is going to be a huge event.
What to expect:
-Nintendo will explain marketing plans.
-Nintendo will explain WiiConnect24, showing the "big secret" related to it.
-Nintendo will explain how WiiConnect24 will work on certain games.
-Nintendo will show new games that are based around WiiConnect24.
-Nintendo will announce pricing and release date.
-Ninendo will announce 5 new first party titles.
Proof:
-Ubisoft interview:
IGN Wii: Are there online modes planned for any of these games using either Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection or WiiConnect24?
Laurent Detoc: We will be able to provide more information on this feature for each of the new games soon.
http://wii.ign.com/articles/723/723081p1.html (http://wii.ign.com/articles/723/723081p1.html)
-E3 Interviews:
Satoru Iwata
President, Nintendo Co. Ltd.
A lot of people are still waiting for a big secret. Miyamoto-San and yourself have said so. Was it the speaker on the Wiimote or are there still secrets to come?
"That - and Wiiconnect24, which we recently announced. We have not yet announced details about this. Well, maybe you are underestimating the power or potential of Wiiconnect24 now. After all, Wii is a console that can be connected to the internet 24 hours a day with minimal consumption of power. In the near future we can reveal what it can do an then you can understand many secrets behind the Wii machine."
Can you give any examples of what it can do now?
"Wii is going to become the machine which is new every day and which is for everybody. Because every day you are able to receive something new with the Wiiconnect24 feature. While you are sleeping, you may be receiving some new courses, weapons or stages for the games you are playing. Or you may be receiving some messages from one of your friends. And when you receive a message with your Wii, the Wii disc insertion slot is going to light up to tell you someting new is happening with Wii. (...) If we can intrigue people to turn on the Wii every day, then we can change the relatonship between videogames and human beings."

hey, just wanted to let you guys know that I'm new to this part of SHH- I never noticed they had a games forum, and it really excites me, I'm on N-sider too, but it slows down at times.
Anyways, I can't wait for the presentation tomorrow I'm excited to hear more about Wiiconnect24 and how they plan on implementing it at launch, I'd be surprised if Mario wasn't involved in showcasing Nintendo's online plans, so I'd expect one of the games being developed to be an online Mario Kart. Pity Red Steel won't be online.
Star Fox is a must as well, but I doubt they'd come out with Mario Kart and Star Fox for launch...of course that would, hands down, be the greatest launch EVER - but then what about the rest of the year? I'd say they're looking to save a few known IP's for later on.
I think we should look foreward to seeing more new stuff from Nintendo, Possibly more info on some of the timid showings from e3, HAMMER was playable, but we don't know MUCH about that, and I'm really excited for Disaster:Day of Crisis - hopefully we'll get the scoop on this one too. I wouldn't be too surprised if we saw one or two more original IPs either, Nintendo isn't holding back this generation.
Also, has anybody heard of the new Zelda:TP controls? sound perfect too me, do I need to elaborate?
Yes, very glad they changed the swing controls.
Oh, and if you want to spare yourself from a few headaches as you continue to explore these regions, just click here and follow directions :O:up:

Everyday it seems like something new and exciting is learned about the Wii and/or software for it. This latest news about TP's control scheme changes are great, and I can't wait until this convention is over, because a lot more will be known.
It'd be awesome if they announced that Super Paper Mario were being ported/ simul-released on Wii.

It'd be awesome if they announced that Super Paper Mario were being ported/ simul-released on Wii. unfortunatly I never played the original, whats it like? how could the controller make this game worthy for a port??? It does LOOK pretty awesome though, I've seen some screens, very cool style.

Well, it was a joint effort between Nintendo and Squaresoft, so hopefully nothing happens that makes Square not allow them too. I don't think it will hold it up though, they are on good terms now, so all is happy. :)

new IPs are a MUST, its too bad nothing will be playable...I'm sure IGN will get their hands on them eventually anyways.
I'd like to see an MMO from Nintendo, NOT animal crossing. Something new...
Future Prez
08-22-2006, 07:48 PM
I wouldn't mind a MMO Animal Crossing. I think that'd be cool. A few aspects of the game would have to be changed, but having everyone with internet availablitiy live in one community would be fun.

Just ready to go to bed and I remembered this.... Pink DS Lite just mentioned. Lets get to the new Wii stuff.
Mario Strikers Charged!
The Cube one was pretty fun, hopefully they added a couple more features (Mario, Bowser, Donkey Kong and Peach are playable) but unless it is amazing I wouldn't buy just rent.

There will be Batallion 2 Wii (Bwii) later today or tomorrow since it will be playable at the convention. I think same for Mario Strikers Charged or whatever. So not all was lost and a total bore.
Also theres a official Wii trailer from Leizig. The sonic title was renamed from Wild Fire to "Sonic and The Secret of The Rings".
Here is the said trailer http://egm.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3153068

Other way around for me completely. Why would I wait for Nintendo Wii to be cheaper? Its going to be cheap off the shelf, theres no way any price drops will likely happen at all. If they do they'll be for like 20 bucks, not worth it.
Not to mention Nintendo consoles are made out of Nintendium, the most indestructable material known to man. So I don't worry about getting it at launch, warranty is nice too. You can send in a gamecube and get a new one back in 2 days. I could NOT say the same for Xbox (aside from it being so big and square that its bullet proof) with the hardware. The first wave have flaws and the fan is pretty noisy at the moment and will be fixed within a year or something. I'm waiting for that to buy a 360 and a price drop, not to mention waiting on good titles like Mass Effect.

360's price will drop ALOT sooner before Wii's price. The Wii won't have a price drop for maybe two years after launch. Besides, the amount of games that the Wii will have on launch and soon thereafter is more than you'll need at any one time... waiting isn't gonna exactly produce tons more.
Anyway, conference was a bore. Kinda disappointing, but I didn't expect too much from this and wasn't exactly looking forward to it as a big event. TGS next month:up:

GC 2006: Wii Less Than 250 Euros
A European exec sets a price limit and says the launch date is undecided.
by David Adams
August 23, 2006 - Though Nintendo has yet to announce final pricing or release timing for its Wii console, the company has at least committed to an upper limit: Nintendo has said its new system will cost less than $250 in North America and no more than 25,000 yen ($215) in Japan.
While many expected Nintendo to use this week's German Games Convention to announce a final price, the company remained coy. One tidbit did surface, however: according to Reuters, Bernd Fakesch, head of Nintendo's German operations, said he expects the Wii will sell in Europe for less than 250 euros (about $320).
Converted to dollars, the price looks steep, though consoles in Europe are typically more expensive, partly due to taxes. For instance, the Xbox 360 Core System retails for 299 euros, or about $385 - whereas the system is $299 in the States.
Interestingly, Fakesch said that Nintendo had not decided the exact date for the Wii launch, though that would come "in due course." The company hopes to sell 4 million units by the end of the year, and 6 million by March 2007.

Well, while I'm not disappointed, this conference was definitely not what I expected. But I am very excited about Batallion Wars 2 with Wii-mote functionality and online play. I really like the Advance Wars brand, and the first BW was great.
