hey all.........I'm not much of a comic reader......so I don't know if this has been addressed in the comics before......
but.....how do you think Superman would deal with the Terrorist threat we are facing today?
Would Superman try to stop and foil terrorist plots? Would Superman hunt down Bin-Laden and other leaders, and bring them to justice?
IOW.....how would Superman, based on his character's behavior, react to a group of ppl ( sub-humans ) who take pleasure in blowing up innocent men, women, and children?

Superman has dealt with terrorists before. He deals with them the same way he deals with most criminals. He does his best to stop them when they commit some kind of crime. He probably tries to look for them, but he's not alwasy succesful.

I'm not sure what he would do, but I'm damn sure he wouldn't declare "war on terror" or atleast follow that idiotic campaign.

Would he make a statement against the president???

Bear in mind that any "famous villain" captured by Superman and turned over to the authorities seems to break loose again within a few weeks. So if Superman went after Osama bin Laden, I'd expect a series of newspaper headlines to go like this:
SUPERMAN CAPTURES BIN LADEN!
BIN LADEN ESCAPES!
SUPERMAN CAPTURES BIN LADEN AGAIN!
BIN LADEN ESCAPES AGAIN!
And after repeating this cycle many times, we'd get something like this:
SUPERMAN CAPTURES BIN LADEN FOR THE FIFTIETH TIME!
Then the article attached to the headline would explain that the official odds in Las Vegas were 10-1 in favor of Bin Laden escaping custody again within the next week, 100-1 in favor of Bin Laden escaping custody again within the next two weeks, 1,000,000-1 in favor of Bin Laden escaping custody again within the next month!
In other words: Superman would carefully arrest terrorist leaders without killing them, or even really hurting them, but it would do no good because it wouldn't keep them out of trouble! :(

That's kind of a weak arguement. The only reason any of Superman's villains get out of jail is because a writer wants to use them again.

In this case, president Bush help Bin Laden get out of prison, so he won't spill all of their secret agreeements.

Probably. I mean, I don't really understand the question. How would he deal with it any differently than any other crime? Terorist act happens, he'd stop the people responsible. If they escape, he'd try to look for them.

If Superman really wanted to stop terrorism he would just kill anybody that presents a danger to the world we live in. But that isn't in his nature since he doesn't have a cold heart like Bats.

I think this thread messes with people's minds.

And figuring that out is the tricky part right there.:super:

I think Superman would realise that the terrorist threat has been greatly over-emphasised by the American government in order to maximise their contol of the public.
Terrorism isn't a black and white subject, despite what Bush & co would have you believe.
The Question

And really, it's not something recent. The terrorist organizations we're facing now have existed in one form or another for over a decade, and other organizations we're not conentraiting on have been around for longer.

These terrorists have been around for longer than a decade, they just change their names. If Clinton had done his job right in the first place, we wouldn't be in Iraq right now!
The Question

That's not true. If the current administration hadn't taken us into Iraq, we wouldn't be in Iraq right now. Iraq has nothing to do with Al Qaeda.

There isn't 'one group of terrorists'. Any expert will tell you, Al-Queda doesn't really exist. That's a fiction. What there is, is a mentality that leads some men to strike out against the western powers.
The Question

Really, there are well over 100 terrorist groups in the world today. A good number ofn them are Muslim, but that has more to do with the state the Middle East is in right now than the religion itself. Others are Christian, and a few are even Jewish. And then there are plenty of groups that are motivated for reasons other than religion. Hell, the KKK is a terrorist organization.

superman would deal with terrorists the same way he deals with any villian. but superman doesnt get involved in any wars between countries....so, its not like he'd be on the front lines of iraq alongside american soldiers.
The Question
09-02-2006, 11:09 AM
Wars between countries have very little to do with terrorism.

The whole thing is far too complicated for Superman to get involved in. There is no 'War on Terror'. The US Government as as much responsible for the current situation as any terrorists.

No, it's not. The war in Iraq has very little to do with terrorism.

yeah yeah, i know...but its often referred to as the war on terror (hence why i put it in quotation marks), and the government would like us to believe that we're there to stop terrorism...im just saying, superman would not get directly involved in it.
