There are many factors, but much of it is driven by what you do as a poster on these boards. If you display exemplary behavior over a consistent period of time (i.e. remaining cool under fire, demonstrating peacemaking attributes, and showing general leadership capabilities, etc.,) you could be recommended for the position--if there is an opening.
From there, the recommendation ascends to the Hype Heavens, and then we await Judgement. :oldrazz:

^ Because I want to see this guy's opinion turn around on the franchise and I think that trailer (even the non-blurry) youtube version was good enough to see that this movie is different. Yeah I've said mean things about him before for his opinions because somtimes they feel very unwarranted...this time I don't think there's any way he could not see the improvement so hopefully he'll comment on it. He hasn't commented on the pic yet which is strange. Trust me if Harry does a 180 on this one then it'll turn a negative into a positive.

The silver surfer is awesome, Doug Jones is second best, or even better than, Andy Serkis for motion capture... and his FX in this looked awesome going through the buildings and bus and all holy crap!
Tho I thought torch's FX weren't that good... same kind of unpolished FX as in the first one and didn't seem like an upgrade - which is what they seriously need... Maybe the reel was just bad quality (and I need to see a hi-def Quicktime version) but that was my thought...

Well I went to see Eregon and slipped in to see the trailer again. One thing I wanted to point out. He had pupils in the trailer. You could definitely see that when he turned to look at the torch.
I think they should stay.
The footage looked even better the second time around. johnny's flames looked the same as before I think, I mean his flying is some of the best I have seen in any movie so its hard to improve on that.
All in all a very cool scene and the whole opening act is obviously going to be very intense.

Our theater had NATM playing in two different theaters...I ran into each one once or twice to check out the trailer..
One of the theaters actually had the last Spider-Man 3 trailer, but it was slightly different. Since it was showing in front of a PG movie, the shot of Spidey's fist going through Sandman's midsection was cut out and some of the effects looked a bit more polished...
I think both theaters had Shrek the Third, Ocean's Thirteen, and F42...One of them might have had The Last Mimzy...Another interesting thing was that each NATM theater had a different version of the latest Simpsons Movie teaser (the Homer-Bart-Roof and the Homer-wrecking-ball). The Homer-wrecking-ball version earned the most laughs.. :p Where's the third version?
Ironically, I haven't seen NATM yet.. :D

I have already seen it.
For me, it looks like avarage teaser for another summer blockbuster.
Silver Surfer looks like exact copy of T-1000, so I haven't seen anything special in him, except his style of flying.
Johnny vs. SS looked cool, I will admit this
But i didn't like the wedding part, it looked tooc heesy and too unnatural :down
So I still have doubts that sequel will look different from 1st movie.

I guess J. Cameron created T-100 during his editing work on Piranha 2.
Besides, I think the final for of T-1000 was made in ILM studio.
FF2 teaser didn't show anything in SS what would make him look different from T-1000.
And I think Story saw T2, so he could analize it and bring some changes in SS's appearance (maybe change a bit color and make him look more realistic, not just some space character from cartoons). But he didn't do that.
Also, I think everyone was expecting people starting comaprison between SS and T-1000.

T1000 is a shiny reflective metal man and so is SS, it´s natural that they resemble each other. That´s fanboy nitpicking.
I only saw the trailer on youtube, so I´ll save some judgement, but... I dunno. It felt like they were trying to force a more serious tone on the trailer with music and the "pulsing" effect... But the footage itself mostly resembled the old stuff, with Thing crying and Johnny´s "just bought this tux" line... But the end of it actually suggested something darker.

Those lines are spot on though, that is EXACTLY how they are in the books,Johnny is a wisecracking hero and Thing is the most sensitive of the group.

Not quite as simple as that. The Surfer could have had a duller look and look less like the T-1000, and it's obvious there is an influence. The Surfer hasn't been done in live-action before and the T-1000 is the same thing visually, so they used him as reference.

I think Story just used T-1000 as a model for SS, and that's very simple to understand, if you saw trailer.

Then why Story wouldn't change the look of SS? For example, make him look darker and not so mirror like. He could do this.
Zen Ith has already explained why Cameron made T-1000 to look so, consequence of the character being made of liquid metal.

The way I see it, Tim Story had two choices:
a. Change the design of one of the greatest characters in comics history to prevent people who don't have a lot of imagination and only observe superficial visual similarities from comparing SS to the Terminator character. . .
. . . or . . .
b. Do the Surfer faithfully and deal with any comparisons.
Thankfully he went with "b".

You think they should change the Silver Surfer. Change this startlingly faithful cinematic representation of a character beloved for over 40 years.
So people won't confuse him with T-1000. Or think that Story ripped a 15-year old character.

Pretty funny, Richards. :cwink:
I feel obliged to remind everyone, however, that Stan Lee did not create the Silver Surfer. Jack Kirby did. He decided Galactus should have a herald and drew the Surfer into the story he and Stan had discussed. Stan himself has said this in many interviews.
Yes, Stan provided dialogue for the character; but who and what the Surfer is, all that was determined by Jack before Stan even knew the character existed.

Question: does anyone have any idea of what he's doing in the trailer? The Surfer frequently moves through objects as though they were water in the scenes, such as when he passes through the Empire State Building and when he moves through the bus. Is this a movie-exclusive power, or an actual canon ability that's been given a name in the books?

Yeah in an interview on youtube some place Kirby modeled Galactus on a God concept, someone with unlimited power. I think that since God has his archangels and of course his Son in the biblical story who comes first and prepares the world before reaping we can see what Kirby was thinking.

My usual Googling skills are letting me down on this. The information I'm finding is mostly anecdotal ...But rest assured, Christmas Day is certainly ONE of the biggest box office days, if not THE biggest, each year. July 4th and Thanksgiving are also traditionally huge box office days.
A friend of mine who was a projectionist for years says these are days when they get more business for films across the board, as whole families set off for the theater after their festivities have wound down, usually in the afternoon. My friend says they would frequently see family members split off, with patrons of various ages and genders seeing whatever interests them.
Overall, it's just a huge day for multiplexes.
I'll try to find something statistically concrete when time permits.

Christmas day is not one of the most lucrative days of the year, but it is important (if not the biggest day) of the holiday season. the holiday (approximately the two week period surrounding christmas and new years) sees days where movies gross similar numbers all week long, as if every day was a weekend day. so the longer FOX can hold up the hype for the trailer including Christmas day and the days following, the better.

Once again, advanced dark proves he knwos very little about the box office.
christmay day is enormous. Many movies open on the day itself instead of the typical wednesday or friday. ALL movies increase from the previous day by large percentages too.

I think the priest is Brian Posehn
I'm almost 100% sure that is Brian Posehn as the priest. I'm pretty sure he's a comic geek. Next, Patton Oswalt as Galactus. HA!

Its funny, all of my movie theaters are dead on Christmas day.

Me and about 8-9 members of my family go to a movie every Christmas evening after dinner. Usually it's the younger aunts, uncles, cousins while the older relatives stay home and chew the fat. And everytime we go, the theater is PACKED. So I have to agree that Christmas is a huge day for the box office.
BTW, I've talked everyone into going to NATM this year.

I am soooo ticked off. I finally got fed up with waiting and went to see Night at the Museum only to see the FF trailer. NO TRAILER FOR FANTASTIC FOUR. I got there early and saw every trailer but they didn't show it. This was in Dallas, Texas at the Valley View 16 so it should have been there. Who the crap do I complain to? The FF website very plainly says to go see NATM to see the trailer. I have to say that I hate 20th Century Fox. A few years ago I got second place in the Daredevil "design a wallpaper contest" and the prize was a t shirt and a cap. They didn't even ask my size and sent me a child's medium and the hat didn't fit either. They don't have a "contact us" on their website and the movie theater manager didn't know anything about it and said they didn't advertise the trailer with the movie so it's not their responsiblity.

and thats exactly why im not going to see it, this is fox's underhanded attempt to get more asses in the seats for their stupid movie.
There isn't that big of a percentage of people that are going just to see the FF trailer. Maybe about .5% of the people going to see the movie.... The amount of money Fox is making off that fraction isn't that important...
I haven't gotten to see the trailer yet because the theatre that I work for didn't get it. Oh well... I'm sure it'll arrive on the internet within the next couple days.
Oh, and Night at the Museum was MUCH better than Fantastic Four, yes, it really was. Probably the second best family film I've seen this year, behind Cars. I am pumped for FF2 though. That one picture of Silver Surfer proved to me that it will be at least a slight improvement over the last one.

Well, Malus I guess we can do our part and just post cogent items. To wit: At least we can be assured that Fox made a good choice in putting the trailer with NATM.... it topped the weekend box office with just over 30 million....
From: The Chicago Sun-Times (http://www.suntimes.com/entertainment/movies/185585,CST-FTR-box25.article)
'Night' comes alive with $30.8 million
December 25, 2006
BY DAVID GERMAIN
LOS ANGELES -- Ben Stiller's ''Night at the Museum'' was the main exhibit
at theaters, debuting with $30.8 million to lead a rush of new movies over the holiday weekend, according to studio estimates Sunday. Starring Stiller as a guard at a museum where exhibits come alive at night, the comedy exceeded expectations for 20th Century Fox, which had been counting on a bit more than $20 million, said head of distribution Bruce Snyder.
I wonder if just a small bump was due to people going to see the trailers...:woot:

By hitting the F4 key, you would enter a hidden part of the FF movie website, like the photo files and the little game where you got to pick a character to fight other players online. I had fun with that one.

A retarded person can't help being retarded. People who *harrass* a retarded person are the one's I have a problem with. They have the ability to stop, assuming they are not also mentally handicapped.
Let's take a look at the board rules:
Any excessive fighting or heated arguing between any number of posters that includes harassment of any kind may result in the closing of the thread, warnings issued to all involved users, probation, or possibly banning.
Harassment is defined in Webster’s dictionary as ‘to annoy persistently’ and includes name-calling, instigation of others, and bigoted remarks. This includes, but is not limited to, derogatory remarks about another's race, gender, religion, sexuality, or country of origin.
I personally feel the Mods have been WAY too lax in enforcing this policy here, and threads have suffered for it. There is a fine line between being a wise-ass and just being cruel.

Just a word of advice from someone who belongs to message boards that actually have industry pros interact with the fans. If they see a bunch of juvenile rants and bickering, they will avoid the board like the plague. They don't have the time to wade through the junk to find something worthwhile to reply to.
They may do more lurking than actually replying. I am always tickled to death when someone like a Walt Simonson or Tom Brevoort from Marvel actually makes a remark about a post I have made about the FF.
On another MB, Ryan Murphy, creator of Nip/Tuck, actually stayed online for two hours on the night of the season finale just to answer some of us fans' questions. I am not saying Tim may actually start posting here but at least we should be on our best behaviour in case he does lurk.

I can tell you that Doug Jones does check out the boards here from time to time - in fact, he was the one who pointed me in the direction of the 'Hype forum in the first place. When he had time after coming home from filming Hellboy in 2003, he would join us on the Hellboy message boards to answer questions and chat with the fans.
So, that's a fair point. Bickering and name-calling doesn't exactly endear the board to anyone, irrelevant of whether industry pros lurk here or not.

Personally, I have a problem with the word 'retarded' in any shape or form, and to use it in reference to anyone is unacceptable.
The fun of a message board is the diversity of its members, and reading their different passions and opinions. How those passions and opinions are voiced can take many forms, and all are acceptable as long as decency and respect are part and parcel of those opinions. We have comic fans, movie fans, Jessica Alba fans, Doug Jones fans, Ioan fans, Sci-Fi fans ... you name it we have it here. All have something to give, however or whatever they have to say - and tolerance and respect from other members, no matter how they may disagree, should be the order of the day.
Arguments are fine - disrespect of other people's opinions and passions are not. If you can't say something nice, or at least be civil about it, then for goodness sake, don't say it at all.
