Yes!!!!!!!!!!! Deus Ex is the best game ever. I love it so much, I need to re beat it soon.. wish I had it on my laptop so I could play it now. And DE 2 isn't as good, sort of buggy, but still a great game. Then again, I don't think a sequel could be release that would be better, or even just as good, as Deus Ex.

Anyways, yeah, this thread is all fact. Deus Ex really is the best game ever made, no other games even come close, they can't even touch it. The story was just too incredible to describe, better than the best I've read in any book, seen in any movie/tv show, or especially any other game, and it was woven into the overall setting and atmosphere so expertly, it was all just done so unbelievably well. The RPG mechanics were perfect, your conversation choices actually mattered, as did your aug and skill choices, you had real options on how to play the game. The voice acting was either awesome and screamed "bad ass" (JC, Walton), or was just charming and really made the whole character (the homeless bum characters for instance, I could recognize their voices anywhere and automatically know that it was a bum, and that I should ready the dragons tooth). "From God" indeed. This game was just perfect

In the realm of movies, there are a few movies that embody movie perfection. The Godfather. The Seven Samurai. Citizen Kane. To Kill A Mockingbird.

In the realm of videogames, Deus Ex embodies video game perfection.

I hate how they make it look like you can actually make choices in the game for yourself, but you really can't. I wanted to support the guys I worked for, and it had all the dialogue options that allowed you to do it, but the game wouldn't continue until you chose the other option. I thought that sucked.

At least you can get three endings though, even though they're all brought about ONLY how you play the last level. :(

"Only the first 4 OBJECT phases are being released along with a demo map. This will be the first release of probably 2 or 3 in total. This first release will NOT include characters (although we plan on chucking one in just as a demo). It will most likely not include weapons. It is ONLY OBJECTS FROM THE FIRST 4 PHASES - yes - i'll say it again - phases 1-4 only. It will be released as an easy self installing exe, how modern :D."

"And the release date? ...End of September boys and girls."

It'll be interesting seeing this.. it'll probably take a while still to get it completely done, but ah well, hopefully it's going to kick ass.

So I'm replaying this game.. except trying not to kill anyone (besides the one person you have to kill). I don't think I'll last.. mainly because I'm still at the statue and I'm out of prod charges....and I need a quick silent takedown. And no gas grenades.. just a baton and tranq darts.. lol.

Yea.. I killed 2 people. Not too big of a spoiler (not really one at all) but I'll throw it in tags anyway... I had to save Gunther, and there was a guy sitting in a chair, and another patrolling the hallway, and I couldn't get past them to grab Gunther (isn't it optional for that? anyway, I wanted to do it anyway). Also, awesome news first release of that HDTP is available... doesn't have too much, but check it out: http://offtopicproductions.com/hdtp/

That sucks, I'm re-playing this game, except killing as few people as possible. So far I've only killed one person which is Anna Navarre (sp?).. since it seemed impossible to escape the UNATCO HQ without killing her.., and right now I'm up to when you first go to Hong Kong with Jock, and your helicopter gets locked down. I also need to play through System Shock 2 before Bioshock comes out next year.. maybe this time I'll try using only psi powers since I didn't use any last time. SS2 is one of the hardest games ever... and creepiest (sp?).

Given the limitations of the PS2, some of the levels that on the PC were massive, were split up into smaller areas.

The only positive was the opening movie, and the three endings.

Well, you know, PCs are superior for a reason, and PC to console ports usually suck for a reason.....and don't blame the PS2 for the resolution. It's the crappy nature of TVs that forced that resolution on far too many consoles. Thankfully that's being fixed....

I'm not blaming the PS2 for it's resolution, I'm blaming it for not having enough RAM to properly present the game, and I'm blaming it for having control stick sensitivity that makes it really unfair to shooters.

Also, I partly blame the developers for making such a bad interface, but oh well.

The controls were kind of wonky in Invisible War, if I recall correctly. They confused me when I played the demo for that. But I'm sure I'll get used to them.

It's odd. I absolutely stand firm that Deus Ex 1 is a keyboard and mouse game, however, even when you alter the settings in "Invisible War" to make the controls less "wonky" it still feels a bit off. I thought it felt very natural on the Xbox, but I suggest you just re-map the keys and alter the mouse speeds to make it feel better. :(

For Deus Ex 3, they should play Bioshock to see how to really do the interface for a console-PC co-development game. :word:

Five things you can be pretty sure of about Deus Ex 3
26-Nov-2007 Start managing your expectations now.

1. It'll be primarily a console game. Sorry. We wish it weren't so, but all major multi-platform titles are these days, and it's definitely not going to be a PC exclusive.

2. It won't take after Invisible War - at least not intentionally. Deus Ex 2 wasn't an accident, it was an intentional shift toward a shorter game type with more freedom in which factions you could work for, and a further future sci-fi setting. And given the general fanbase reaction to it, no sane developer in the world is going to try that again.

3. It won't be as long as Deus Ex. No-one can afford to make thirty-five hour action games to today's graphical standards - art and asset costs are far too high, and if Valve's stats are anything to go by, less than half of gamers can even be bothered to finish a five-hour game.

4. It will disappoint almost all Deus Ex fans. Sorry again. This is not to say it won't be great, it's to say that Deus Ex fans are insane. I know because I'm one of them. If Deus Ex 3 isn't exactly the same as Deus Ex 1, possibly with slightly prettier graphics and more fluid animation, we will go bat****. I might mail someone my left ear. I'm getting angry just thinking about the notion of a game that isn't Deus Ex to the letter. We're all like this, Deus Ex broke our brain in some fundamental way that renders us unable to appreciate anything else without that dark caveat lurking at the back of our minds: "This isn't Deus Ex." Crysis isn't Deus Ex. Stalker isn't Deus Ex. Bioshock isn't Deus Ex. Deus Ex 2 isn't Deus Ex. When Jesus Christ himself returns to save every one of our souls, there'll be a grouchy huddle of pallid nerds muttering "Eh, he's no Deus Ex."

5. It'll be awesome. This is just a feeling I have. There's too much that's great about Deus Ex to screw up an honest attempt to recapture that game's glory. In Walton Simon's words: "We got a lot of things right when we made you, Denton." An e-mail exchange between my editor and I back in May, when Deus Ex 3 murmurs first started:

It's just some dude stirring up **** with no info. It won't "primarily" be a console game anymore than it'll be "primarily" a PC game, multi-platform games have been balancing the two pretty well for a long time now. It'll have a UI that suits the PC and it'll have a UI that suits the consoles, and really, that's the only difference that needs to be there. There's nothing inherent about the PC or the consoles that would make one require different gameplay.

The idea that it won't be at least close to Deus Ex's length is also pretty damn stupid and baseless. I can name at least 3 games from this year alone that are huge successes and have equal or greater length.

Games longer than ten hours are only possible on a PC. You should also do some research and educate yourself to the fact that all console games are platformers and all PC games are RPGs.

They'll LCD Spec it, which I don't really mind since Deus Ex 1 didn't have the best graphics of the time. Deus Ex: Invisible War had amazing graphics for it's day, though.

As long as the gameplay, story and level design is at the quality it should be, the game can look exactly the same as the original for all I care.

Io tried a new IP and it didn't quite resonate with reviewers. I'm still interested in the game, though I feel it'll be a let-down from Freedom Fighters regardless.

Anyway, Io's next game is Hitman 5 anyway, so that'll give them something familiar to work with.

Eidos Montreal is highly trusted by Eidos and has several people from the Ubi Montreal teams responsible for SplinterCell and Farcry: Instincts so I'm sure they'll have a strong campaign and a great stealth model. Overall, I'm expecting very high quality if not the deepest experience available.

Go to c - program files - steam - steamapps - common - deus ex - system, and right-click, properties for DeusEx.exe (it'll be the one called Deus Ex and using the icon, if you don't see file extensions), and set the program compatibility to Windows 98. Deus Ex 3 = Prequel...http://n4g.com/News-90355.aspx

WhatsHisFace
12-05-2007, 06:01 PM
I think N4G's gotten a bit too news-happy again. The Deus Ex 3 teaser also has images from Leonardo Davinci's notebook. That doesn't mean the game takes place during the renaissance.

However, the big hint in the Deus Ex 3 teaser that suggests it's NOT a prequel is the nanotechnologically augmented fetus. In Deus Ex 1, nanotech was only doable on certain DNA types, namely the Dentons. In Deus Ex 2, it's made compatible with everyone. At the end of Deus Ex 2, JC Denton realizes the best way to improve on humanity is to give everyone nanomods and essentially turns himself into a Universal Constructor for the sake of mankind. Only after that point would it be possible for a fetus to be augmented.

So anyway, yeah. WHF > N4G.

They weren't compatible with everyone in Deus Ex 2, that's one of the things the WTO wanted to prevent.

GFreeman

I think those put Paul into a coma though. They had to come from JC to be of any use to people. So unless you got a nano-******* from JC Denton, you had a slim chance of getting augmented. And I think he really only wanted to give everyone the infolink aug, none of the cool ones :csad:

WhatsHisFace
12-05-2007, 10:08 PM
I don't know. I was just playing DX2 and Chief Morgan says how ApostleCorp's nanoaugs were compatible with everyone, unlike the Piezochem architectures. I think ApostleCorp was making their new nanites to revive the two brothers and once that was complete, JC was able to be revived after you reawaken him by activating his memories (Best sequence in videogaming ever. Even better than everything in Ocarina of Time.)

GFreeman
12-05-2007, 10:09 PM

Half Life 2 Episode 1 is better than Half Life 2 (which was just too long winded)., half Life 1, and Deus Ex

Half-Life 2 talk... sinks the Deus Ex ship.

Actually they have nothing to do with each other. HL2 is a classic FPS with superb level design while Deus Ex is a classic RPG with great story and superb gameplay. Also, Deus Ex was name the best PC game of all time by PC Gamer or Magazine. HL2 was second.

I love both and can't wait for Deus Ex 3.

Nobody has an opinion like that and gets away with it. You probably only like Half-Life because it's developed so close to Canada. Time for America to kick your ass. I don’t know about stripes, but you're sure as hell about to see stars.

You're on the right track. My disappointment with Half-Life 2 commands that I shoot it down and criticize it whenever I get the chance. Having it in a Deus Ex discussion means I have to take action.

But yeah, Deus Ex 3 will be incredibly awesome.

JC Denton... God, I miss that classic. A true masterpiece. Hope they don't screw it up like Deus Ex 2 (Which was good but way behind the original IMO).

Haha, I had that last night when I bought it on Steam.

Go to c - program files - steam - steamapps - common - deus ex - system, and right-click, properties for DeusEx.exe (it'll be the one called Deus Ex and using the icon, if you don't see file extensions), and set the program compatibility to Windows 98. If that doesn't work, try this (http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=623426). A lot of older games have this issue with newer systems.

You didn't have to explain it like I'm a tard :csad:

Before I go, I'm going to make sure I appear in one of those news story. Soooo many people around me have it coming. None of them are infants, or clinically retarded, so it probably won't have the same impact as most of my news stories, but I should still get a headline or two. "The Butcher Of Tennessee Strikes Again!", look for it.

You know I'v had this game for about 5 years and I only played some of it today and then took it out because that graphics are so dated. I'll stick to playing Crysis and COD4. I feel bad because it seems like an interesting game from what you people say and I remember it being extensively talked about when it 1st came out.

I guess you also don't watch movies in black and white, no matter if they're some of the best ever made (Seven Samurai, Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Schindler's List {for most of the film], Dr. Strangelove, Red Beard, Rashomon, most of the Marx Brothers movies), any action movie that was made before the advent of CGI, or for that matter the movies that first used CGI because the graphics look so dated, even though they were all being extensively talked about when they first came out.

Barney Stinson

I watch and own many older films and ironically enough, every movie you mentioned I own on dvd and vhs. Hell, my favorite Bond movies are the early connery ones...I'm a movie whore that would put most video shops to shame. My collection is THAT extensive...and that is one of the reasons I never got round to playing deus ex in the first place because I was building up my movie collection but you can't assume that, I'm like that just because I was turned off by Deus ex' graphics. Hell, I still play old psx games.
