Monday 11-Sep-2006 11:37 AM Tasty list of retro downloadables; plus Wii chips ship and OS upgradable online

The Nintendo Wii's list of classic titles available via its Virtual Console download service will number at least 26 games, and will some of the best-loved retro games ever, if Play-Nintendo is to be believed.

The publication reckons its information came from: "A trustworthy source", and the list does appear to be pretty credible - including the likes of Castlevania, Duck Hunt, Excitebike, F-Zero, Metroid, various versions of Mario Kart, The Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros.

Meanwhile, other Wii news continues to emerge at a steady rate, ahead of Nintendo's big announcement this Thursday. IBM has confirmed that it has started shipping the Broadway processor chip that will power the Wii, although neither it nor Nintendo will reveal its technical specifications yet.

And C&VG.com has learned that the Wii's operating system will be updatable via the online service - as is the modern practice with consoles that can be hooked up to the Web, such as the Xbox 360. Which should help combat hacking and facilitate patches for buggy games, as well as let Nintendo add to the Wii's abilities as it moves through its life-cycle.

The full list of those Virtual Console launch games is as follows:

Bonk's Adventure
Castlevania
Duck Hunt
Excitebike
F-Zero
Kid Icarus
Legend of Zelda, The
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Mario Kart 64
Metroid
Mortal Kombat
New Adventure Island
Ninja Gaiden
OutRun
Pac-Man

Is Nintendo Already Boxing Wii?
Some readers allege they were contacted for a Wii assembly line; new Nintendo job posting backs it up.
by Matt Casamassina (http://wii.ign.com/email.html)

September 11, 2006 - The IGN message boards have run abuzz (http://boards.ign.com/nintendo_wii_general_board/b8263/126736205/p1) with allegations from a poster that Nintendo is seeking 150 people to begin packing finished Wii consoles as soon as Tuesday.
Clever users investigated a number of work agencies postings and found recent job openings for Nintendo's (http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732152p1.html#) North Bend location, which houses the facility that packages and distributes the publisher's products. However, the most compelling job posting is listed directly on Nintendo's official website. Nintendo of America (http://wii.ign.com/articles/732/732152p1.html#) is looking for a production agent trainee to work out of its North Bend facility, and the person will most definitely be handling as many Wii systems as they can get their hands on. Directly from the Nintendo job posting:

"It's an exciting time to be a part of Nintendo's team! Millions of eager fans are eagerly anticipating the launch of our revolutionary new console, Wii. As a Production Agent Trainee, you'll be on the front-lines--working tirelessly to ensure they don't leave stores empty handed this holiday season. At least one IGN board poster has applied for the position and will undoubtedly report back with details if he nabs the job. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
In the meantime, the latest allegations - combined with Nintendo's own job posting - seem to back up reports from studios that the console is finished and that the Big N could spring an early launch on consumers if and when it reveals Wii's price and release date later this week.

REALLY!?

Amazing, personally I think the Wii is going to win the console war, I mean it might not have graphic capabilities like the PS3 or the 360 but graphics aren't everything. They have nice awesome graphics and amazing controller and very innovative ideas. A fresh breath of air in the video game industry.

I can't wait for the Wii. And it only costs like 200 bucks. That's a huge advantage over Sony and Microsoft. Can't wait for this thursday.
