Thoughts? Feelings? Memories?
hunter rider and I were chattin' about it in pm's. I don't know much about the title, personally. I have a couple of issues but refuse to read them until I can in sequence. I'm crazy like that.
It lasted 25 issues, so it must have been something...

I liked it...a bit different from the supernatural GR....but a cool book. that chainsaw was a nice weapon.
also liked doom 2099 as well....that was going pretty good for awhile

It was the only 2099 series I read. :(
I love the origin. "Zero" Cochrane, kid, hacker, title character - Killed in the very first issue, only to find himself drifting as a digitized concious mind in communication with data entities in a forgotton place in some hidden corner of the 'net. He is given an ultimatum and accepts the pact: A download of all that remained of the mind of Zero into the body of a new high-tech combat robot.
And he finds himself reborn, the Ghost Rider of 2099.

WOW!!! Chainsaw's BIGGUN:D And from what ive just read about the story/concept i am really hoping for all the issues to be combined into a GN as that's my only hope of reading it.Usually when anything is messed with and stuck in the future away from what it was originally intended to be it sucks but this sounds excellent.

I didn't read any GR 2099, but I have a lot of Spider-Man and X-Men 2099's. I think of all of marvels "other" universes, 2099 was probably the most popular. I don't think anyone even remembers that Clive Barker Universe (Razor, I think) with Ectokid and the rest...they weren't very good.
FlameHead
12-02-2004, 11:58 PM
I agree. The 2099 universe was pretty popular and very good, in my opinion. The X-men ones that I've read were very entertaining. I'm happy that the universe is still alive and well today.
I really enjoyed all of the 2099 titles but GR 2099 was one of my favorites. It was done exactly right in my opinion. Totally different origin but still kept the essence of the original character.

I read the first 2 issues and frankly I loved them. Never got around to the rest though. I was a huge fan of X-Men 2099 from issue 1 on. I hated the abrupt ending the 2099 titles had though. THey all were canceled and then restarted in 2099 World of Tomorrow and that was just BAD!!!
I've always loved this pic:

I loved the X 2099 issues as well, though I too only have a few of them... much like my GR2099 collection. I hope to remedy that soon though as I really enjoyed what I read in the first 4 issues. It was just starting to get real good actually...
Love that pic as well. There's lots of cool images of GR2099 actually...

Being the completist that I am I collected this when it was being published, and it turned out to be a great read, with great names like Chris Bachelo and Ashley Wood. If you get a chance to pick them up you should, they'll be super cheap, I've seen them for like 50 cents at shows.

I've read the first dozen or so issues, up until Ghost Rider got blasted to smithereens by Coda. Why? That's all that was published in this country. I hear the art took a real nose dive after that.

i read some of the 2099 books
I only have issue 1 thru 5. I've been trying to get the rest of trhe set (read it only went 25 issues) for around 2 years now, but local comic shops suck around here, and eBay has screwed me over royally plenty of times. Okay, I'm just cheap.
But the first 5 issues are a great read.

Does anyone have scans of Vengeance 2099? It has been like, What? 12 years? And I still don't know anything about him, Or what he even looks like!
Uncanny Orb
10-08-2005, 07:15 AM
He looked nothing like the Vengeance from the second series. They took the brain from a cop GR killed and put it in a bot that could and did kick GR's butt, but his programing wouldn't let him finish the job You can google it and see a cover with him on it.
I read, and still own, everything single issue which has GR2099 in it. I thought the character was amazingly interesting.

Ya I really enjoyed the 2099 series, sometimes I'll read the whole thing in a couple of sittings.
I'm still pissed that I only have the first five issues of this comic. I usually read them once every three months when I want something good to read for a few hours.

Can one of you guys give me a little lowdown on that series. I just remember seeing GR looking like a machine and thinking, "Nah." So, I never read it.
Did I make a mistake?

Yes, you did.
GR 2099 was a great series, really. Much, much better than the others, X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, Punisher...
Len Kaminsky & Chris Bachalo mad a killer creative team. Later Kyle Hotz replace Bachalo and keep the flame, for sure.
It tells the story of Kenshiro Zero Cochrane, a leader of a resistence group called Ghostworks, in Transversal City.
When he was murdered, his mind was connected with a cyborg who was made under the shape of a certain 20st century flaming hero...
Like i said before, the series was awesome. Worth a read, for sure.
I hope it helps.
:ghost:
Plus the dialect they used in the script was well thought out. I actually knew a few technophiles who used the language without even reading the comic for a while.

They actually where pretty good stories.
Though they really IMO didn't count as GR stories. GR 2099 really was much different than GR.
If your looking for a good read, cool. If your jones'n for GR, its not a good GR fix.
Hmmmmm, although really the same could be said about the last GR mini

it was what all the 2099's should have been...the basic look/concept of the character with it's own totally unique backstory and characters...not just spider-man 2099 fighting venom 2099 or vulture 2099 every damn month...

I'm pretty upset they never brought in Stilt-Man 2099 or Rocket Racer 2099...
GR was certainly a little cooler. The 'tech angle was a little more pronounced as far as a cultural thing, not just "I'm the Punisher 2099! I've got a grenade that shoots lasers...because it's 2099!"
Hell, I loved pretty much all those books, but GR just seems like it understood the potential of the setting a little better.

Wow... I'm glad to see I'm not the only one with this book on my mind. I re-read the 1st issue last night for the first time in at least a decade... Talk about a book with almost no lingering popularity that was SO before it's time...
Considering this thing came out 5 years pre-Matrix... I still say this is a great cyperpunk movie just waiting to get made.:ghost:

I was a big fan of GR 2099, by far the best of that line of books. It had great art and the whole concept worked well. I especially liked the chainsaw. I really must dig those out and read them again. It was very "Matrix" like.

Said to be an unpublished issue of GR2099. Don't know how true that it, but it's something nonetheless.
Found it while looking for discount (or free) versions of Ghost Rider 2099. I really want to read the series and I only have the first 5 issues.

aight, cool. glad im not the only one that liked ghost rider 2099.
someone should make a 2099 ghost rider movie, just for fun. like if they make any sequels to the msj rider movie, later on after those they can make 2099. and in 92 years ppl will watch it and think "This isnt how we live in 2099. what the hell were they thinking back then?" i dunno, i just think seeing a 2099 rider movie would look pretty sick, like with his chainsaw n stuff. might actually be even easier to do than the ghost rider movie, special effects wise, cause there is the terminator movies and matrix movies and every other scifi/futuristic film ever made.
Hey, my post actually made it. Hype! crashed on me while posting.
As for 2099, I think it would make a better gritty, violent animation. Something dark and heavy, similar to the way Spawn was back in the mid-90s.

yea. im surprised they dont make every comic into a cartoon. im sure there has to be some rich fanboy out there who works in television. if i did and could id have like a channel devoted to diff kinds of cartoons for diff comics. have some cartoons drawn cartoonish or some done more comic bookish, some for kids n others more for the older comic reads.
The whole 2099 timeline was really interesting and I think in general would make a good animation. Something to build on. Many issues were fun to read.

ive always wished they make a 2099 series for marvel legend! i also wish they finished that 2099 game they were making back in the day.
Luckily i snagged all the GR2099 at a half off sale at my local shop and it was well worth every cent. That series is defiantly my favorite one.
