Yep, that's still rumor. Wait until the end of the week.

Mentok

Or you can wait 10 minutes for the liveblog of the Japanese event to start. Then you will know the Japanese price and you can work out the approx U.S price from that.

Read the damn article from Gamespot, it says the launch date and price right on it. Also Wii Sports will be packed with the system

TheGrayGhost

I did read it. It's all over the internet, but it isn't entirely credible. It could prove to be true, but it isn't official. Yet.

Mentok, could you please post the information once you get the chance?

Kipobe
09-14-2006, 12:21 AM
It's 95% accurate... and it would've likely been shut down by now if it wasn't true. The credible sources would be risking alot of post rumors such as this.

Did they say anything about what the controller packaging would be?

wii.ign.com has been doing live updates from the event all day.

- Zelda: Twilight Princess will be a Wii launch title. GameCube version will hit a month later on December 11th. Looks like I'll be waiting to play the version with the classic OoT control system.

- Metroid Prime 3 has been delayed to 2007.

Reggie promises between 15-20 launch titles with over 30 titles by the end of the year.

Here are the "confirmed" launch titles with more possibly on the way -

Wii Sports
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
ExciteTruck
Call of Duty 3
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam
Trauma Center: Second Opinion
Need for Speed: Carbon
Madden '07
Elebits
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz
Rayman: Raving Rabbids
Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance
World Series of Poker
Rapala's Tournament Fishing

Since he says we won't be getting over 20 titles, that likely means that IGN's release date list, which claims 25 titles at launch AND doesn't even include some of these games, is incorrect.

As disappointed as I am with the price for the console, that's not what's got me ticked off. The Wii is supposed to be a multi-player console with the average consumer in mind. If that is true, how can Nintendo be selling only one Wiimote with the system, then charge $60 total for a Wiimote and Nunchuck?!

Kipobe
09-14-2006, 03:07 PM
I wanna see what cable options are included. I'm really hoping for component cables... I'm not taking it for granted.

Also, the room where I wanna hook up my Wii doesn't get a strong connection from my router... so I'm wondering if the hard wire connection will be out of the box, or will I need added stuff.

I think this was long ago established. I think I even remember a rumor that you could hook it up to any external usb harddrive. So just get a cheapy 80gigger for $75 and it's a wrap.

yeah, a basic 360 no one bought. I can't understand why some people are surpised by this price. $250 sounds right to me and it's a very good price. Some people put the notion of a really cheap system in their heads and now they can't deal with the cheap price of $250. Did people really think the Wii was going to be cheaper than the Gamecube when it launched?

Kipobe
09-14-2006, 04:13 PM
Nevermind the fact that it has everything you'll need to start playing that day out of the box. If it has hard wire connectivitiy cables and component cables included, it's still cheaper than the Gamecube was.

GC released with a cheaper controller... no games... ($50 apiece) no component cables ($35+)... no connectivity ($??)

I see this as still great pricing. Not that cost would really be a big issue to me, but all the same it's nice to see that they remain the most competitive as far as pricing.

VC games could stand to be a little cheaper though... I would've thought they should all be under $7, but whatever. I'll still have my entire Zelda library/entire Mario library/entire Metroid library, and many others on one freaking machine. That can't be topped. :o

More disappointing is the fact that only the white console will be released on launch. Who the hell in the US has a white television anymore unless it's like a 13" kitchen TV:huh:

Yeah, I wish we had the black color option for the Wii. The virtual console prices don't bug me, because I don't plan on using it that much. But your right. This is a very affordable system and people shouldn't complain on what their getting for $250. And the games are $50, rather than $60. My only criticism right now is the price for the nunchuck. $40 for the remote and $20 for the attachment. That's $60 for the nunchuck. I would of liked it to be a bit cheaper, but I'll buy it anyway. There is too much positive from all the news we got.

By the by... no DVD playback for Wii. If they did have it, it would cost approx. $300+

If they put it as an add-on, it would be a feature no one would buy.

The room my Wii is going on has a laptop attached to my big-screen that has a DVD-player/writer

I also have a DVD-Recorder
I also have a home theater w/ DVD player

Another device that plays DVD's would be utterly pointless. A regular DVD player costs like what... $50? I'm so glad they didn't give into the trend of multi-machines just because everyone else is doing it.

The only thing that sucks about the 250 Wii price tag is that the haters will have some ammunition.

An example would be a few of these posts froma nother forum I visit.

Hm, I don't see Nintendo as having a huge advantage anymore. Wii was supposed to be cheap, 250 isn't cheap.

No DVD thing is lame, honestly. I use my PS2 for DVD playback and having to hook up a previous generation machine 'cause my new piece of hardware can't play a movie? Boooo.

Nov.19 @ $250?...$50 too much..

Seriously, to think that Nintendo will lose an advantage because 250 isn't cheap is...flat out stupid. Bells and whistles will only get you so far, and I agree with people who say DVD playback is useless. I hate the fact that it was ever added in now. Sure, back when the PS2 launched it was cool, now it's just over done.

As I get older I only want to play games. I don't want to watch movies on my game systems or hand helds. I want to PLAY games on them. No more, no less. And if I ever get so lazy to where I can't get up and unplug one system to plug in another.....that's when I stop playing games.

Sometimes I hate calling myself a gamer, simply because most of our fellow gamers...well...make others look bad.

Yeah, I know. I should honestly post here more often then I do there. I'm a mod though...so...:p

When your the only one defending Nintendo it's hard not to mind them. I'm just absolutely starting to hate these dolts that say "The Wii is NOT a next gen system" or "What if the Wiimote gets boring real quick?" Yet you can't say things like "What if Blue Ray fails?" Or "what if people simply refuse to pay 600 bucks for a system?"

It's times like that when I hate being a gamer. I KNOW I leave people like that get to me to much....but it's almost impossible not to.

Anyway, Woo! Wii soon!

You and Thwip seem to be the type of gamer I am. In all honesty I could careless about graphics. I don't want to watch movies on my systems (or hand helds) I just want to play games now.

I honestly think that most next gen systems should just offer us better online functions. Yes, graphics can be nice but I've played so many games with "awesome" graphics that flat out suck AS games that I just don't really care about graphics anymore.

It's a main reason why I LOVE the DS, simple graphics, quarky games....loads of fun. I remember when that's what gaming was about. Now it's less about fun and how much "blood" we have in games.

I guess I'm just getting old.

Thwip's a big graphics whore though...then again, he knows how to have fun with games like San Andreas, because if you look past the (now) horribly dated graphics and violence...it's just too much fun to ride around on the bike and jump :O

To me, it's always going to be the gameplay.

If I can get a game that's available on more than 1 platform, of course I'll go with the most high-tech one, but the gameplay and story are always a must

That's why I think I'm going to have a HELL of a time with the Wii...

Nintendo is ALWAYS about the games....people can ***** all they want about them not being "next-gen", but I'll take an innovative and fun Metroid experience for example, over any cliched sci-fi FPS like Prey.

You know where I'm going with this...

I did, I just didnt post the right thing. I had this window opened twice.

Anyway, here's a list of the Wii details.

Price: $249.99
Includes:
Wii remote (1)
Nunchuck attachment (1)
AC adapter (1)
Audio/video cable, (1)
Sensor bar (1)
Sensor bar stand (1)
Wii console stand (1)
Batteries (2)
Wii Sports (US only)

Controller:
Wii-mote: $39.99
Nunchuk: $19.99
Classic Controller: $19.99

Games:
1st Party: $49.99
3rd Party: $49.99-$59.99 (?)
Virtual Console: $5-$10

Personally, I like the controller thing. I have a feeling they'll do a $50 bundle where you get the Wiimote, Nunchuk, and controller. I especially like that you can get the nunchuks seperate. This will replace the age old problem of loose analog sticks. I hope Nintendo has a service where you can return it to some stores and get some % off to buy a replacement.

A lot of people are complaining that the price is too high... and controllers are too expensive. I think a lot of people are forgetting what they are paying for.

A frickin X-Box 360 controller is 50 bucks and it doesn't have the motion sensitivity the wii-mote has. Add motion sensing to 2 seperate devices, and your at about 60 bucks. Its expensive, but IT IS reasonable.

Yeah but their FFXII critisisms are based in falacy, while they do have a point or two about the Wii. Still, I'm getting a Wii and looking forward to getting one on day one.

The price isn't a huge deal (the controllers are expected to be that expensive, which is a bigger deal), they can sell it at 250 dollars to the 'hardcore' at first, and at that price it will also appeal to the casuals.

I suppose whichever version you choose is fine, but you should take into consideration that Miyamoto himself was skpetical of the new control scheme, but when he played an updated build, he said that the Wii version is much superior to the GC version. That means a lot. Now, I guess you could say he is obligated to make such a statement, but it's Miyamoto. I trust him.

If you check the SHH! main page they have a poll asking what system(s) you intend to buy/bought.

Benstamania
09-16-2006, 04:20 PM
It it happens to be the only poll online that Sony is winning. You KNOW it's bad when Gamefaqs doesn't even have Sony ahead in their polls.

As for TP and standard control vs Wiimote...I honestly believe most gamers are afraid of the Wiimote. Seriously, they'll hide it behind words like "skeptical" and junk, but it's more then that. The Wiimote is a serious change and it's simple fact that most gamers don't like getting off the couch/PC Chair while playing.

Yes, we all know Nintendo said time and time again that you won't have to dance around like a dork while playing with the Wiimote but Nintendo "hay-ta's" refuse to acknowledge that.

If you chose to go with the Cube version, hey...more power to you. But you'll possibly be missing out on a great time by skipping the Wii version.

Honestly, I know that Nintendo is being nice by releasing a Cube version, but deep down inside....I hope they flat out cancle it.

I've read the thread but hasn't seen it mentionned : the Euro release date is December 8th and the price is 249 €. :)

And the PS3 Euro-release date has been pushed back to March 2007 (for a price of 600 to 700 €).

CantThinkOfAName
09-17-2006, 05:17 AM
The price is ok. $250 is still a lot cheaper than the competition, although the Xbox is gonna go down in price so that gap might not look at large there.

I kind of wish Nintendo gave a Virtual Console game with it too. Like, $5 (however they give, the point system?) for any NES game of the owners choice, or something like that. I think itll convince people to get more games (for those that might not use it).

And I dont know about the launch date. Releasing it so close to the PS3 launch, while showing that Nintendo has balls, is only going to hurt sales for both systems. If it came out a few weeks before, at least the Wii could dominate for that time, and even when the PS3 comes out, there'll be more Wii's available for people to pick up compared to what will obviously be a hard-to-find system.

I dont know, Im no marketing expert, so we'll see I guess. At least Nintendo will own the holidays in Europe.

Microsoft has denied a price drop for the 360. It looks more likely they'll upgrade the Premium version to include 3-months gold, PGR3, and I think an arcade game. Even if they drop the price, it'll be $200 for the Core (the set no one wants or buys) and $300 for the Premium; so the Wii still has the edge, albeit a small one.

Releasing the Wii so close to the PS3 is not going to be fatal. The Wii is half the price of the ****ty $500 version and more than a third the price of the better version. The gap is too big to cause a negative impact on the Wii.

Zenien

And for the couple billion they've lost on the Xbox brand thus far, they've earned tens of billions through the rest of the company. If they wanted to they could sell the Premium at 200 dollar and it woudn't put a detremental dent into the company. They're one of the few companies in the world whos problem is too much money.

But even if they drop the price of the Core by 50 dollars, ro 100, it's still not fully functional compared to a Wii.

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't the hard drive required for online play with the 360? And it costs 100 dollars anyway.

Well you'd need a memory card + an Xbox Live Gold Accoount, looking at the prices of the subscriptions (http://www.xbox365.com/news.cgi?id=GGuNPduGLN08290056), even if the core did drop down to 250, there's a bill to foot if you want to go online and play those games or save them for that matter.

Anyway the Wii is fine at this price, though it's not really saving anything with the 'bundle' they've chosen to go with because it's the eaxact same price as a Wii in Japan + what Wii Sports would retail for.

Yeah. I was hoping for a couple of downloads, but this "bundle" is fine at its price.
