I can usually do it until I think about it and then I start messing up

jaguarr
09-16-2006, 02:50 PM
I usually look to see that I've got my fingers planted in the correct position initially, and then type without looking at them unless I need to hit an odd key or the number-pad.

back in HS I had to take typing and the teacher told us that if we kept looking at the keyboard as we typed that we'd all end up working at mcdonalds...

that *****ucking ***** is dead now... but man did she have huge knockers.

The Amazing Lee
09-16-2006, 04:07 PM
I can pretty well but I do sometimes make mistakes. But that is mainly because of the fact that I have really stubby fingers.

I have used the internet for over 6 years now...So I have got quite a skill on the computer.

I am quite fast as well when i want/need to be.

Majik1387
09-16-2006, 04:08 PM
I can, I just feel more comfortable looking at the keyboard.

The Kid
09-16-2006, 04:11 PM
I can... been doing it since I had my old c64, though as I just did, I do look for the numbers.

Lord Valumart
09-16-2006, 04:15 PM
if i want to i can

hell i was forced to for 4 years at school, fastest typer in my class:D

i do sometimes make the odd mistake when going really fast, like pressing a key twice or hitting one next to the one i'm aiming for cause of the angle i'm typing or something like that. i know that was added on extra info but i wanted to share:)

Sabretooth

Helghast

123 WPM without looking, but I average maybe 115. People ask me to type things up for them, I should start asking for payment. Especially since they don't ask it as a favor. I'm such a sucker.

Numbers are a whole other story though.

Everyone can say that about anything. Looking at the keyboard is a pain in the ass, especially if your desktop lighting situations are poor.

BTW, I found out my WPM doing this test, my higest was 123, that's why I stick with 123 but I usually get between 110 and 120.

I can do it, but i on and off look at the board depending on how often I am making mistakes. If I keep making typos sometimes I'll look down.

sorry I don't believe that. I took several keyboarding lcasses in high school, and the names of the fastest students were always on display, and I was always the fastest except for one or two weeks, and I was at 60. My one teacher was at 80, and the other at 70, and he often told us the world record, and I don't remember what it was, but it sure as hell wasn't that high.

A few years ago in school we had stupid worthless typing programs that really sucked. They taught me home row...that was it.

Then, last summer I learned how to type fast without looking at the keyboard. You know how? Being here. Getting hyped over these superhero movies talking to you guys.

Yep, I'm dead serious.:o

Now, I can look at the TV and type at the same time!:) Tell me that's not freakin' awesome!:D

The test probably isn't accurate but for three minutes and maybe a few mistakes (never more than nine) due to hesitation and losing finger placing resulting in typos (I only use three fingers. I don't count my thumb.) that's usually my score. Typing class seems like a waste of time, but ah well, easy credit. And according to Wikipedia...

Barbara Blackburn (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Typewriter#Typing_speed_records_and_speed_contests ) is the fastest typist in the world, according to The Guinness Book of World Records (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Guinness_Book_of_World_Records). Using the Dvorak Simplified Keyboard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dvorak_Simplified_Keyboard), she has maintained 150 wpm for 50 minutes, 170 wpm for shorter periods of time, and has been clocked at a peak speed of 212 wpm. Blackburn failed her typing class in high school, first encountered the Dvorak keyboard in 1938, quickly learned to achieve very high speeds, and occasionally toured giving speed-typing demonstrations during her secretarial career.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Words_per_minute

So. Yep. The internet is awesome. I've never really tested myself other than that simple little thing but I'm probably actually in the 70-90 range. I never really have to type for ginormous periods of time. At least not fifty minutes. Or even fifteen, I procrastinate a lot or stop to give my hands a break and actually prefer pen/paper.

Without looking at the keyboard, I can type up whatever. As for how many WPM, don't know. I can't take the test because my s key is broken and I have to keep crtl+v to use the letter. :down

the little "drawer" that my keyboard is on is rarely ever pulled out...so yeah..i don't have to look at the keyboard. though will openly admit that i often have to check for "shift-#" punctuation...and sometimes numbers too but not often

I can also type about 45 to 50 words per minute.

I can! And actually rather fast too.

Typing was actually the one *really* useful class I took in high school (even if it was learning on old school typewriters.)

Clouseau
09-17-2006, 12:47 AM
yeah, i remember i really didn't wanna take typing when my parents told me i needed it, but now, looking back, i'm glad i did... through my typing class i got to be fairly decent at it, but then, when i went to college, my typing skills vastly improved when i discovered AIM, because one of the friends i talked to on there was an extremely fast typer, so i learned to type faster just in efforts to keep up! the last time my typing speed was tested (which was at least 3 years ago), i think they said it came out between 90 and 100 wpm... i think i may have improved still yet since then...

I am simply amazing with a keyboard. Faster than a speeding bullet, don't need to look at anything. In fact, I don't even look at the screen, like if I'm watching TV, I can just keep looking at the tv screen and type what I have to type like I do now.

pretty much although it depends on the keyborad in question though, i have a big chunky one in my office which is good for speed typing but i can no longer use smaller ones because i feel like my fingers are too closely located to one another...

saying this, i tend to type most of the time with my head down and eyes closed, it's more comfortable to just let my fingers do all the work when trying to broadcast my thoughts while i take a break...
