The Matches -- Decomposer.

Great band that will definitely be famous one day. This is their second album, and it's amazing. They're not one of those bands where most of their songs sound the same. Every song on this album is unique in some way when compared to the others, yet each song still has The Matches' awesome sound.

If you don't know about these guys, check them out. And give each of their songs a listen. You won't regret it. Their fist album is great, as well.

I listened to one Matches song before and it was catchier than s**t.
I hated it the first time I heard it, but then it found it's way onto my ipod.
Chain Me Free, I believe it's called.
I'll probably check out the rest of the album now though.

I used to listen to Taking Back Sunday nonstop in high school.
I wore the f**k out of my copy of "Tell All Your Friends".
"Where You Want To Be" struck me as lackluster, with the repetitive trading of lines and such, but it grew on me.
But I won't touch anything they put out since then.

Yeah, "Chain Me Free" is an older song and they're first single. That's easily one of thier most generic songs. I suggest you check out their new stuff. Much better, IMO.

And yeah, "TAYF" is by far Taking Back Sunday's best work. "WYWTB" was dismal, but their newest album, "Louder Now", is actually pretty good. It show's their maturity as songwriters and artists.

LOL I can understand the appeal of Less Than Jake to anyone, say, under the age of 13 years old, but when you have otherwise reasonable and rational adults listing them in a good albums thread, it is slightly tragic.

Less than jake is great carefree music for parties and they kick major ass live. They just don't feel the need to take themselves too seriously unlike a lot of traditional punk bands... who suck!

Misfits - Static Age
Misfits - Walk Among Us
Misfits - Earth A.D.
Actually, pretty much any Misfits release with the exception of American Psycho. (I don't despise the new Misfits because I think Famous Monsters is a great CD)

Static Age and Bullet were easily my favorites. Walk Among Us has some of their best, but nothing can copete with Static Age. I could never get into Earth A.D. for some reason.

Define the Great Line - Underoath
They're only Chasing Safety - Underoath

Really?
I think they're only chasing saftey is borderline generic, seriously.. they should change thier name, cause they are not the Underoath I know.
The real (older) Underoath sounds like hell itself, and yeah.. that's a good thing.
As for Define The Great Line, every time my friend plays that CD when i'm around I always think it's some Every Time I Die i've never heard before..

Which reminds me, Every Time I Die - Hot Damn! can be added to my 'list', forgot that one.

Yeah, Static Age is definately THE quintissential Misfits album, Last Caress.. Hybrid Moments.. Angelf**k, all incredible songs.
The thing about Earth A.D. was that the band themselves wasn't 100% pleased with it. It was really Danzig just taking the band where he wanted it to go (Samhain), but it did influence alot of big bands like Slayer and Metallica and give them thier signature fast paced, aggressive style.

clarification, a lot of people have listed greatest hits cds. They are not albums, they're compilations. If the songs were re-done in a different style or covered by someone else then fair enough but a greatest hits record is not an album. there are some dodgy ones on damita jo though..

but 'Janet' is the one the general people like the most since it sold like 10 million...

no I was saying that a greatest hits is not an album, it's a collection and therefore doesn't fit the criteria

An album is a collection of related audio tracks distributed to the public. The most common way is through commercial distribution, although many smaller artists will often distribute directly to the public by selling their albums at shows or on their websites.

If you exclude compilations then you also exclude the Beatles Blue and Red Albums because they were compilations of their prior work.

My favourite types of albums are Greatest Hits, Best of and Soundtracks, all of which are compilation albums. By purchasing these I get the best choices of an artists music usually without having to pay for songs I don't enjoy.

I just read where you took me literally and said that in fact "THE" reason the world sucks is not because those three Disinformation books aren't globally required reading, and now I read th^t, and I'm thinking you're a little Stickler. :cmad:

:D Hey I enjoy getting it stuck now and again. ;) So I figured everyone else needs a little sticking too. ;) Besides hippy fascist was the first one to be a little stickler by trying to void out my choices.

Obviously the point of the thread is to list original albums, not compilations.
Most albums have 1 or 2 good songs and a bunch of ear pollution filler.
But some albums are so classic that every song is loveable.
That's what would make them noteworthy enough to make a thread
.
A Greatest Hits compilation would not be noteworthy for the fact that every song is loveable, because it's that way by design.

But most of the albums I would be able to list would then be excluded and those artists and albums do deserve a mention.

I thought the point of the thread was to list "great albums" - the ones worth getting.

However... if I follow your criteria, even though it excludes soo many great albums then my list would be along the lines of:

The Friends of Mr. Cairo - Jon Anderson & John Vangelis (easy listening)

and almost everything by the following artists:
Nickleback
Barenaked Ladies
Gowan
Chris de Burgh (easy listening)
The Nylons (easy listening/old rock & roll)

THANK YOU! Once again WS you bring reason and logic!

People who's record collections have a ratio of any less than 20 albums:1 compilation have no real taste and need to be told what to listen to :p

Most of the best tracks of all time were album tracks, singles are just marketing :whatever:

Was it particularly complicated the way I put originally?

While there's nothing wrong with what you do here's how I see it. "Hits" are decided by record labels. There's no such thing as a "surprise hit" in my opinion because certain songs are set up to be hits. Singles are released and they're played on the radio, etc. Sometimes a band will get to decide which songs get to be singles but usually the record label can shoot them down if they want. "Hits", while certainly being good songs much of the time, are completely manufactured. I've found many times that I'll like other songs on an album better than the "hits." "Hits" are usually pretty conventional and full of hooks. They have to be. The masses as a whole won't go for something daring. If you just stick with "hits" you may be missing out on something great.

ahhh, but by buying a hits album I can often decide if I like the artist enough to buy their other albums. For example: The first Chris de Burgh album I bought was "Best Moves" and after that I bought the others because I liked his "Best Moves" album. However, even though I have purchased many of his other albums most of the songs of his that are my favourites are from the "Best Moves" album.
