Nightwing in the JSA?

lets face it folks....as long as Bruce Wayne is still breathing, Dick joining the JLA is a wetdream at best.

But, in the DCU, the JLA isnt DC's only great superteam.

Since Dick is a Golden Age character, and since i'm pretty sure his Earth 2 counterpart was a member, how bout he joins the JSA at some point or another?

That's actually quite an interesting notion. I'd love to see his interactions with Mr. Terrific and Dr. Midnite seeing as both of them are different facets of Batman and the Bat family in general. And I can see him having a huge respect for the Golden Agers like Hawkman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Wildcat. I could also see him becoming pretty good friends with Hourman and Sand. My only worry is that with such a large team with lots of different characters, he wouldn't bring a whole lot to the team. They have great fighters, great thinkers and people who have all sorts of gadgets. What else would he bring?

Not a bad idea. I've always seen the JSA's modern role in the DCU as being sort of trainers for newbies. The veterans, Alan, Carter, Ted, and so on, take the new kids, Kendra, Courtny, and Jakeem, under their wing and show them the ropes. I think Dick's earned enough of a veteran status to have a similar role.

The JSA would help with that. Have Dick join Ted and Alan as a "Trainer of Heroes." Showing the newbies the ropes. Fits Dick well, I'd say. And he is technically a golden age character, so he fits that crteria aswell.

Meh, I don't see Nightwing as really fitting in with the JSA. Sure, he's a Golden Age character, but he's been the symbol of the young adolescent hero since he became Nightwing. He's the guy that people like the Teen Titans look up to, but in a completely different way than the way people look up to Alan Scott, Ted Grant or Jay Garrick.

Dick Grayson is the teen hero that became a hero in his own right. The old guard of the JSA are just that, the old guard. They are the moral compass of today's heroes, and that's the way they and the JSA function. After all, the JLA may teach how to fight, but the JSA teach how to be a hero. Nightwing, although he has that moral quality just isn't quite there yet.

Hey folks...just read the thread....
And I think it makes a lot of sense for Nightwing to be a member. He can bridge the Earth-2 fans for Robin and Huntress to the new generation.
After all, he made his mark as a sidekick, leader of the Titans in most of their incarnations, succeeded in his own solo adventures...and is now just a treading character until he finds his place again.
Someone mentioned up above what can Nightwing bring to the framework of the JSA, how about all of his fanbase? That's something to bring.
Imagine it:

This is where he can increase his learning skill by learning under the World's first original team of heroes. Where he doesn't have to lead a group of heroes but actually observe them, train with them...like learning from Ted Grant in his boxing styles...or maybe have an interest in the history of the JSA and all that they had to endure.
Or assisting Dr. Mid-nite in surgery's (like a nurse)
The possibilities are so endless....
it makes for wider opportunities for writers to create stories....
LIke how about Nightwing vs. Per Degaton...and he brings up..."I remember you....oh wait that's not really you, but you'r counterpart, the grown up Robin".
(just a possible scenerio if Degaton found out who Nightwing really was.)

conflict with Wildcat, Dr. Midnite, Mr Terrific, all whom are more detailed facets of what Batman taught Dick to be.

Issues with Powergirl. She as she is now would be striking sparks with him because as a "pretty" young man he wouldn't be paying too much attention to her as she expects with the rack she carries around.


You'll notice that there is no "moody, keep to himself uber detective with the JSA? cause it can't work. JLA is more PC than JSA and JSA would be trying to get all up into ***** business.

I seriously doubt Nightwing wouldn't be able to control himself when faced with the visage of Power Girl's rack, and the last thing I think he'd do is just disregard her opinions. He's worked alongside buxom Amazonian goddesses before, Power Girl wouldn't present a problem. Heck, Nightwing would be one of the few guys not consistantly staring at her chest.

Still, its restrictive since Johns said its about finding bloodlines and such of old heroes, not old JSA-ers. Dick I guess would technically not fall in line with that but who knows.

Well, if you start counting past realities. Batman and Superman of Earth II are now remembered as members by the old JSAer's. Hell, I mean, it would be similar to PG's connection to the team.

But that's doesn't matter, it's a bad idea really. Dick is better off with the Outsiders.

I agree. He is much better as the leader of the Outsiders than a subordinate on the JSA

Nightwing was able to work along side a lot of beautiful women in the past...and still get the job done. (Just because he has the name of a body part doesn't mean he totally gives into it)

There is other groups that he can join...and although I respect his mentors participation in the JLA, shouldn't limit Nightwing to other groups. Sure he has the Titans and Outsiders...but what happens when their time is up and they disband?
The JSA is the very first team to come out before there was a Justice League. Why everyone thinks its a bad idea.

Having him in the group would certainly honor the 70's version of the JSA....since he, power girl and Star Spangled kid joined also....and in the JLA books number 55 he was already a member of the JSA wearing that idiotic costume of Batmans and yellow cape.

But it was already recorded that he was a member...so its only a matter of time he will be again....

After all they did it in Kingdom Come...even though it was the League, there were too many tributes to the JSA in there.
