Okay, I'm doing a survey for a class. Participation is appreciated. If you watch Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, or both, please answer the following. Brevity is not necessary. If you feel like going on a rant, please do. It'll help my study.

You don't have to be a big time fan of either show. Any casual viewers, your input is as valued.

And if you could premise your answers by saying which show you're talking about that would be good too.

1) Your age?

2) Sex?

3) Sexual Orientation?

4) Race?

5) Hometown / What kind of environment did you grow up in?

6) What initially drew you to the text?

7) What do you like best about it?

8) Who is your favorite character?

9) Why do you like him/her?

10) What character do you consider yourself to be most like?

11) What characteristics do you share with him/her?

12) Is there a character you dislike? Who? Why?

13) Is there anything else about the text that you particularly dislike?

Answer as much or as little as you want (Although more is better). Also, if there's anything else you have to say about why you watch either show, go ahead and say it. I'm trying to get a feel for the audiences. If anybody wants to do more in-depth discussion, let me know and we can work something out.

Also, any Daredevil or Elektra fans? Casual readers? Check out the Comics forum >> Marvel for my DD / Elektra survey

3) Sexual Orientation?

what does that has to do about the show?

You'd be surprised. Gender identification and whatnot. Don't answer that one if you're uncomfortable.

Nobody is going to answer all those questions. Looks like you'll be using the old "fake lots of info" strategy for this assignment.:D:up:

Me though, I'm 19 and watch both shows, you know, considering that they're THE BEST SHOWS EVER. Well-written, dream casts, the works. As to what drew me to the show? Sarah Michelle Gellar is ridiculously hot.

The first four questions - the answer is pretty obvious. You can check my profile.
I'm from Bucharest, Romania.
I liked the show because it had plenty of character developement and humor. My favourite character is Spike and my least favorite character is Dawn during season 6. I think I am most like Xander: Completely useless, but loveable nonetheless. :)

I'll answer all the questions in detail for you sometime, but I don't have time right now. When do you need the information by?

1) Your age? - 23 now, though I was 20 when I started Watching and 22 when I went hardcore.

2) Sex? - Male

3) Sexual Orientation? - Straight

4) Race? - Caucasian

5) Hometown / What kind of environment did you grow up in? - I live in a Canadian city but I grew up in a small counrty town of under 2000 population.

6) What initially drew you to the text? - My sister actually

7) What do you like best about it? - It is a good escape.

8) Who is your favorite character? - Wesley

9) Why do you like him/her? - Because they made his transformation from a stuck up goofy character to a total bad ass comletely smooth over time. (Watch his first and last appearances consecutively, it's amazing)

10) What character do you consider yourself to be most like? - Angel

11) What characteristics do you share with him/her? - Withdrawn from society, He keeps fighting no matter what.

12) Is there a character you dislike? Who? Why? - I find myself disliking Buffy more than others because sometimes she just Cant see the bigger picture. Often it seems that everything has to be about her.

13) Is there anything else about the text that you particularly dislike? - Some of the cheap deaths. Eg Anya died for no real reason and right out of nowhere. I complain that this type of more 'realistic' unmeaningful death never happens. But, when I see it happen I understand why it never does.

there's already been a Buffy movie, it tanked.

The TV show was much better than the film, which starred Christy Swanson and featured Paul Ruebens (aka Pee Wee Herman), Donald Sutherland, David Arquette, Luke Perry and future two time Oscar Winner Hilary Swank (in her first movie role).

The TV show was a restart from the movie. Also in the movie: The Punisher himself Tom Jane, Stephen Root (Milton from Office Space), and Ben Affleck.

I really wish Xander and Anya actually got married. It would've made the show so much less angsty. Plus it would've given Anya something to do in season 7

But then the last episode would be really sad, instead of dismissive.

Yeah, but it was still sad to me. I had no idea she was going to die.

But then the last episode would be really sad, instead of dismissive.

Yea, but that kinda made it suck. They were just sort of like "HEY! ANYA HAS BEEN A MINOR CHARACTER THIS SEASON! LET'S JUST KILL HER OFF SO WE CAN SAY WE KILLED A MAIN CHARACTER!"

I think that there was something with the fact that Emma Caufield didn't want to return for any guest appearances or anything like that that Joss killed her off.

I was all for the possibility of tons of the Scoobies dying, but then I realized that we couldn't have gotten that satisfying ending in which Buffy was finally happy and content with her existence.

Though, yeah, for a finale it was lackluster. By the time Chosen aired, we already knew James Marsters was going over to Angel so we knew he was coming back. At the start of season 7 they reported that season 7 would be Caufield's last season regardless of an 8th season or not, so I pegged her for death since 7x01.

And yeah...it was kind of upsetting that Anya didn't get anything to do in season 7.

At least she got a pretty decent back story episode.

05-06-2005, 05:19 AM
Tis true, Anya died because Emma Caulfield didn't want the option of being called for any spinoffs, or Angel or a 8th season of Buffy. Does that make her death less crappy? No. I would've like to have seen them get married, but that would mean we wouldn't have Hell's Bells, and I'm probably the only person willing to admit that I liked that episode.

Roughneck
05-06-2005, 07:30 AM
I liked that they didn't get married. The story that was done for that Episode was fantastic. They way Xander decided not to marry her even though it damn near tore his heart out not to be with her. He didn't marry her to save her from a life that he didn't want her to suffer. Even as the illusion was proved false he still said no, all the while screaming "YES YES DEAR GOD YES" inside.

While it wasn't the decision I would have made he made the best decision (for him)

Hell's Bells is one of the few episoded (Who am I kidding Many) that atill make me cry as I watch it. So maybe in the long run it wasn't a good idea to have them noot get married, but for that one episode it was the best thing they could have done.

But then the last episode would be really sad, instead of dismissive.

I was kind of pissed about the way Xander didnt seem to give a toss, he seemed more upset the Mall had gone then the love of his life.

my favorite Buffy season is #3. It had a lot of good stand-alone episodes, as well as a really good season story arc. I also loved the mayor as the big bad.
