I'm sure that before "Heroes" aired, you all watched the clips and trailers from NBC.com. I know I'm a little late in bringing this up know, but am I the only one who noticed the difference between the trailer and the show?

You know the one - in the trailer, the drug-addled psychic artist CUTS OFF HIS OWN HAND, while in the show he simply overdoses on heroin. I'm curious as to why the change was made, or at least, made AFTER they showed the severing-of-the-limb on the trailer.

I'm sure there are various reasons why they changed it - A) too graphic, B) too permanent (how would he paint?). But my question is, why do you think they considered the hand-chopping part in the first place?

Possible that it may have been a thought on the director not to make him 1 handed. In the leaked episode, he did indeed cut off his own hand. Of course some stuff were changed so its okay.

In the leaked pilot he cut off his hand because he had tied himself to a chair/table/something so he could quit H cold turkey. In the scene they show him tying himself up and then they slowly pan to a saw within his reach.

Next time we see him he's painted another picture and has cut off his hand, presumably to get another fix.

BTW, I can't wait for episode 3, I LOVE THIS SHOW!!!! It's a shame I'm Down Under coz I have to wait for the episode's torrent before I can watch it :( God I hope this show comes to Australia!

it would suck having to fake the missing arm each episode

it would suck having to fake the missing arm each episodeBut not impossible.

Buster had a hook for a hand for one and a half seasons of Arrested Development.

Y'know, I thought I had just dreamed that... cuz I was looking for it in the first episode and I was like 'oh, he didn't cut of his hand... I guess it was dark and I just imagined it from the pilot.' It's good to know I'm not crazy.

That said, it's really kinda okay to change little stuff from the trailers. Movies do it all the time, I'm not sure it's any worse for TV shows. His hand wasn't actually a major plot point, honestly. Now, if you had been looking forward to it, I can understand how you would feel cheated.
