Steel isn't that bad. In fact Aggron is one of my favorites of the later generations, and I'm sure he can do some damage. Unfortunately though, Steel does have some major weaknesses out there such as the ground/fighting combo.

Not saying I hate Steel. My favorite Pok'emon is Lucario: Fighting/Steel. But I would pick a Fighting move over a steel just because they hurt the same things but Fighting is better aginst a bit more.

Rock/Steel is one of the worst type combos. Fighting and Ground destroy it and those are very common move types.

I picked up Platinum on Monday and am at the town with the contests. It's kind of tough finding good Pokemon early on in this game. My first team of 6 is taking awhile to become realized.

My team right now is -
Grotle- lvl 23
Luxio- lvl 22
Staravia- lvl 22
Gyarados- lvl 20
Geodude- lvl 6
Togepi- lvl1

I only have Geodude in there for Rock Smash, and Togepi just hatched and won't be in the team much longer.

I want to get all 3 starters but it's such a difficult task. I wish that someday we'd get a game where you could catch them all without the need of social networking.

Arceus event at Toys R Us. You can get it on Diamond, Pearl, or Platinum

It will know Judgment, Spacial Rend, Roar of Time, and Shadow Force (The trademark moves of itself, Palkia, Dialga, and Giratina).

Definitely pick it up if you can because you can trade it over to HG/SS and activate the event to get Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina at Level 1.

If I buy Leaf Green and beat Platinum to open PAL Park, do I have to get to a certain point in LG in order to migrate them over, or can you do it from the start?

Nothing you have to do in LeafGreen. Just put the Pokemon you want to migrate in your PC. They can't know any HMs though. So fly to Fuchsia City since the Move Deleter is right next to the Pokemon Center.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm probably going to try and get all the ones from Green that you can't get otherwise. The starters, Mewtwo, etc.. I don't want to waste your time with all that.

I'm also a ways off from getting the National Pokedex in Platinum so it'll be awhile.

What exactly happens at these events? I've never gone to one.

In the TRU ones, it's nothing big...they just have it set up that you enter the store. Then you hook the DS wirelessly to their server and use the mystery gift option to download the special pokemon to your game.

Technically you only have to go so far as the entrance to do it. No waiting in line or anything like that. I usually do it while walking around with my daughter as she looks at toys.

The GTS is kind of a pain in the ass to use, but I managed to get a Piplup and a Chimchar today. :up:

GTS on Diamond and Pearl is especially awful. I remember trying to get a Delcatty and Burmy. Everyone wanted a level 100 Darkrai. And when I tried doing the trick to evolve the trade pokemon, it took forever to find a decent match. People offering Machops wanted Dialgas and Palkias.

It's definitely still like that in Platinum, and there is no easy way to sort through the ridiculous ones to find something reasonable. There should really be a way to search by what you're willing to offer, and see what you could get.

They also should automatically match up. I put a Tortwig up for a Piplup, and then found a Piplup looking for a Tortwig, but had to take mine down to trade with the other.

Speaking of console games, Nintendo really needs to give us a new Pokemon Snap. More levels, more Pokemon, share pictures online. To make it even more awesome, don't use the Zero One. Have it that you ride a Pokemon through the level. How cool would it be to ride a Lapras in river or ocean level? Or a Pigeot in a sky level?

I've never played SF. You pretty much button mash the 2 button to attack. Type effectiveness is taken into account for the most part. For example, Poison resists Fighting but I didn't notice that when I played.

One annoying thing is if you want to switch Pokemon, the one you control stops moving but the other pokemon can still attack it. So you have to run away or wait until you clear out a section.

So its like gauntlet. I used to play that all the time as a kid. I owned the orignal and used to play the arcade version with a bunch of friends. If it is anything like that then I will love playing it. What I understood before was that it was a fighting game that you only pushed the "B" button to attack and moved around a bit and could change Pokemon out and such.

HeartGold, SoulSiver will come with Pokewalker. Release date March 14

Already released in Japan to monster sales, the 3 million selling Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver has not just had its date confirmed for the U.S. market. It's also getting a Pokewalker.

The pair of Pokemon games are remakes of Game Boy titles Pokémon Gold and Silver, and their 2009 release in Japan correspond to the 10th anniversary of the titles. The games are bundled with a pedometer called the "Pokéwalker", which can increase experience and in-game currency. These peripherals can also be used to trade items.

HeartGold/SoulSilver will be out in the U.S. on March 14.

Good news, bad news.

The US will get the Lugia and Ho-Oh figures when you pre-order at select retailers (starting Feb 1). However, there will be no Arceus if you pre-order both HG/SS (as of now).

No specifics on what store. I'd say GameStop if a safe bet. Too bad you'll have to compete with hoarding employees.

I'm going with Feraligatr, too. I was going to go with Typhlosion, as I did in Silver, but he kinda sucks. Gives me an excuse to use Blaziken anyway (I wanted to in Ruby but Swampert is awesome).

For my others, I'm going to use Blaziken, Crobat, Scizor, Dragonite, and Lugia.

This isn't targeted to you, but hearing people complain about them adding Pokemon is incredibly annoying. These same people would be complaining why there aren't new pokemon if they didn't add them.


That said, this one better be Fire type. In fact, 50% of the new pokemon in the 5th gen should be Fire type. Seriously, how can there be more legendary Pokemon (34) than Fire (33)? And 4 legendaries ARE fire.

Fire have the potential to be the most 2nd awesome type (Dragon wins). But no, instead we get Slugma/Magcargo which should be wiped out of existence. And the slightly less useless Numel/Camerupt and Torkoal. Add some other crappy Fire pokemon like Flareon, Ponyta/Rapidash and Magby, you're left with 24 good Fire pokemon. Half of which are starting Pokemon.

Fire Pokémon are underappreciated, but for a reason. Until the 4th gen, most Fire-types were limited to just Fire and Normal attacks. Any attacks they could learn of other types where filler at best (why would Magmar need Psychic?)

That doesn't change the fact that we never get any new Fire species.

Not counting Legedaries (so Ho-Oh and Heatran won't count), the 2nd Gen gave us the Cyndaquil family, the Slugma family, and the Houndour family. Since every Gen has the required Fire-Starter family, and Houndour is primarily a Dark-type, Slugma and Magcargo were the only primary, non-starter Fire Pokémon we got that also weren't legenadry (Ho-Oh and Entei) or a Baby form of an old species (Magby)

R/S gave us the Numel family and Torkoal. Again, since the torchic family were starter Pokémon, the only non-default (Starter) Fire types we got were 3, 2 being apart of the same family.

The current Gen was just as bad. Excluding the mandatory starter and any Legendaries (the Chimchar family and Heatran), all we had was Magmortar, the ONLY new Fire-type AND it was an extension of an already-been-done Pokémon (Magmar).

We are far overdo for new Fire species.

As far as that new Pokémon goes, its possible that the silhouette is NOT the Pokémon Z, but maybe a different new Pokémon. Junichi never referred to that Pokémon as Z, and said Z has yet to be seen. Then again, since the silhouette didn't actually "show" anything...maybe it is Z. If the former the case, the next movie may reveal TWO new 5th Geners.

I'm guessing that mystery Pokémon will be at least part Dark-type. It gives me impressions of Lucario and Weavile.

Torkoal and the Numel family are some of the best Fire-types, if you want to complain about crappy fire types, talk about the Torchic group or the Magmar family. I'd like to see some more fire type, but I'd be annoyed if 50% or more of the new ones are fire.

Fire pokemon need to be fast since they have a lot of weaknesses. Torkoal and Camerupt are slow and therefore suck.

I still never cared for any Fire Pokemon aside from Torkoal and Camerupt, since most of the other ones are either: a bit too fragile for my tastes, nearly impossible to get on my own (may all the gods in human history damn you Magmortar), frequently used by people I regularly play against, and/or not ones that I like (the spicy poultry included).

I have been using a Houndoom with fairly good effect recently though.

It went from 151 to 251.

Why is it hard to believe? The games came out in 96-97 which isn't that old amongst other long-running franchises.

Bc the basic premise is about Ash going to town and stadiums collecting pokemon and fighting in tournaments. That premise seems like something that can only go so far. Id imagine after a few years, all ideas would have been burnt out as its pretty much the same thing over and over and that seems repetitive. BUT I stopped watching ages ago, so I have no idea how things turned out. That was just my impression years back as I moved away from it.

You only play as Ash in RBY and their DS remakes. You are doing the same thing every game: catching pokemon, getting badges, fighting terrorism. But they change the setting in each new game and add some new things. The GBC games added day/night, hold items, breeding. The GBA games added 2-on-2 fighting and some other stuff (haven't played those in awhile so I forget). The DS games completely changed how the moves are classified which made a lot of previously underwhelming Pokemon much more useful (lie Arcanine).

I was more talking in line with the tv. I can see why the games can continue bc I guess the new systems and technologies can alter and enhance the experience but isnt the tv show pretty much the same basic story repeated over and over? Oh the anime? I know they used to air new episodes daily for awhile when it first started here. Don't know if that was to catch up with Japan or there were just that many. But the anime is messed up. Ash goes to towns that don't even exist in the games and places you can't access in the games.

Plus retarded stuff happens. Pikachu will avoid taking damage from an Earthquake by simply jumping.

I hate the new trend of god-like legendaries. Beings of emotion and time and crap is lame because it either limits what you can do with the games or it leads to a ridiculous amount of escalation. The fifth generation is coming, and what do you think the legendaries are going to be like? What's left if they go the god route? If they had stuck with the legendary bird/dog method, where they're just really powerful monsters with a lot of backstory and legends told about them (legends that aren't true, mind you), there's a lot more room to create.

It would be cool to have Dragon "starters." Grass is the only remaining type that is weak to Ice which hasn't been paired with Dragon. Fire would give us another Fire and a Dragon/Fire has been long overdue. They can do a better Dragon/Water than Kingdra. Palkia, while Dragon/Water, looks more like it's Dragon/Psychic.

What I'd love is to have Fly function like the airships in Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger. Maybe a little more tedious but being able to fly over the entire world would be cool. Also, they need to change it so you can see the actual Pokemon when you use an HM, not a generic sprite.

With Garchomp's Speed and Attack power, it tends to OHKO-2HKO anything that goes up against. Type-trumping is not an guaranteed assurance against an Uber.

And Darkrai was never the focus of any Pokémon game. I'm talking "mascot" like Ho-Oh (Gold/HG), Lugia (Silver/SS) Groudon (Ruby), Dialga (Diamond). A Legendary Dark Pokémon that the story focus around, not an optional secret event Pokémon. Something that will on the box art. My guess would be that the 5th Gen games (the 1st pairing) could have a Light & Dark theme (Diamond & Pearl did Time & Space, Ruby & Sapphire did Land & Sea...)

But since Dragons are the current focus of the conversation, dare I say Dragon-type Eeveelution? Every Eeveelution so far has been based on a Special-type (Fire, Water, Electric, Psychic, Dark, Ice, Grass). There's only one Special-type left: Dragon. What a radical design it could have.

And Braniac, I second the samurai Farfetch'd. Make it Flying/Fighting. There are no primary Flying types or Flying/Fighting pokemon. It could be awesome.

Looks good. Good team too. I've just recently been introduced to the awesomeness of Staraptor. You do have a large Electric weakness though, watch out for that.

I wouldn't want a baby dunsparse, but a second,more powerful evolution.

Every Pokémon related forum or chatroom I've been to has almost everyone heralding Zororark as Lucario's counterpark. I've been seeing fannart o the two feature togete and everything. I doubt it'll have anything to actually do with Lucario.

I do too, but I still think Lucario vs Zororark would be a cool battle on Brawl or even in the movie. Though I'm 99% sure that it will not happen in the movie.
