The photo is kind of candid... She may just be a fan of the character.

most women are fan of the character.

this is just her "bid" for the role. ever since Routh wore that Superman T-shirt a while back i'm noticing lots of actors started wearing their favorite superhero t-shirt (regardless if they're interested in the role in a feature film or not).

.... although i wouldnt mind Biel playing She-Hulk. i think she may fit that role quite nicely :D

I think she would be great for the role. She has a pretty round face and a round, well I didn't know Jessica was packing this much heat!!

She could definately play the part:

I don't really think she fits the WW part, but if she's cast I'll probably see it at least 10 times.

I doubt it means anything. Shaq never played Superman.

So? He got the part.

I don't think Beil wearing a Wonder Woman shirt at all points to the fact that she has the role (though if that report was right and she is getting more muscular, that may be a clue) - I am just saying that Shaq was a poor example to use.

As I have stated before....I would be just fine with her being cast as WW! She has all the tools to be great in the role. Just like Bale was for Batman. She has the....

Looks
Age- (Whedon and Silver want a Diana/WW who is in her low to mid 20's, so she can grow into the role for sequels)
Physique
Acting experience
No superstar baggage
Experience in fight and action sequences
Big upside when it comes to marketability.

As I've said before...I think she would be great as Diana/WW.....especially since Whedon and Silver have stated they want an actress in her low to mid 20's to play the role. She has the potential to do for the WW role....what Bale did for the Batman role. Which is be great.

I don't think she sucks at all. She has a versatile resume and she has shown her range. I would feel waaaaaay more safe casting her ahead of a inexperienced unknown actress who would probably butcher the role.

Jessica Biel, imho, fits the role a lot better than some waify-thin "Mediterranean" actress that people seem to love casting. She has an empathizable presence that she hasn't been able to shake. Diana needs that, and though I can't say she's as perfect as bale, Batman has more flaws than WW, so it's easier to find a fit for him. WW is nigh-perfect, and while we can all imagine our favorite actress is, when it comes down to it, they aren't wondy as we imagine her.

I still like the choice of Biel a lot, and I don't think any of these superhero actors are giving out memorable performances, with the possible exceptions of Eric Bana and Tobey McGuire. Possibly. I wouldn't call anything Bale did except grunt-talk memorable, and not in a good way.

I think Beil would make a great Wonder Woman. I agree with Dark Knight and GL1, when they said the she would be good for the role, rather than some uknown. Jessica has proven she can fight (Blade Trinty), can fly a jet (Stealth), can flirt (Summer Catch), the rebel daughter who wants to leave home, even after her mother told her no (7th Heaven). See she has all the qualities for Wonder Woman.

Especially for an origin tale....and a WW who starts out young and in her mid
20's. I would be very comfortable and pumped if she were cast. To see her hot body in the WW suit with a hot battle skirt lookin like a warrior? Good stuff!

Well that is something I definately cannot argue with. As she does have one incredible body on her (TCM '03 conveys this perfectly). As I've said before, I like Biel. And like Dark Knight, would likely feel much more comfortable with her in the role than a complete and total unknown. Which I am definately not in favor of.

I wouldn't call anything Bale did except grunt-talk memorable, and not in a good way.Kinda going off what you said. I'd say Bale was actually not really a fit for Bruce Wayne or Batman. He doesn't really look like any particular incarnation of Bruce Wayne. He does not have the traditional square jawed appearance. Bruce looks a lot more like the Rock Hudson's and Gregory Peck (for whom he was based) and several other old school handsome leading men.

But we are not as married to what Batman looks like, mostly because of his costume. Once the mask is on, providing any extreme differences in the mouth and chin, it really ceases to matter. But Wonder Woman has a very expected and traditional look.

Wonder Woman is suppose to be the most beautiful woman in the world. Whereas Batman is not necessarily suppose to be anything beyond handsome.

Biel is one of the more athletic actresses in Hollywood, so she has a clear advantage there. (And that is significant, since three or so months with a personal trainer isn't going to turn just any woman into Wonder Woman.)

A woman can only be so toned before she starts to look like a man, and Biel has crossed that line with this photo. She looks like a woman there to me, a fit, toned woman. Moreover, as someone else pointed out, Wonder Woman is supposed to be a symbol of feminine strength, not to mention a very formidable character.

I really don't see where Jessica's look in that pic is out of line for this:

NOT! The first movie had her wearing fake breasts! So in the 2nd film she stuck to being petite. Also in the 2nd film she was more covered up. Finally, Angelina is so short compared to Wonder Woman.

ummmm, did u see Angelina Jolie in tomb raider? dead ringer for a ww's body.

thats what a personal trainer can do.Umm, yes I did, and no, she wasn't a dead ringer for Wonder Woman's body. Jolie trained intensely for quite some time for the first Tomb Raider movie, and all she managed was a few microscopic bumps on her generally skinny frame. Later, she complained mightily, both about the training and the bumps, and did not repeat the effort for the second movie.

but ya, u have to have someting to begin with, a personal trainer can't turn some waif into ww. Well we agree there, and that pretty much seconds my initial point. A woman has to be at least fairly athletic to begin with in order to be able to do something like this in a reasonable time frame. Many of the women being suggested flunk that test, and it almost goes without saying that a wimpy Wonder Woman will not be taken seriously by many moviegoers

and personally, i think biel is a bit too butch. And I beg to differ; apparently, quite a few others do as well.

Depends on who's drawing her. But most artists nowadays have her skin slightly tanned as opposed to pasty white. The earlier version was basically a nordic looking chick with black hair, but they've attempted to make her a little more exotic/ethnic as of late. The way she looks now, she could very well pass for latino/middle eastern.

ummmm, no they're not!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i'm a tan girl myself, but pale girls are just as beautiful, and please don't call them pastey. it makes me think of a) dead people and b) elmers glue.

and ww was originally a pale lady, and now some ppl depict her as tan, which makes sense with her coming from a medditerranean island. but whoever is cast could be either one in my opinion, as long as shes not rose mc gowan pale or j.lo tan. a light olive or a "golden glow" would be best. oh, and the tan must be natural. no orange ww please. google italian, greek, and lebanese women, and you'll find a range of shades i think would be acceptable.

that said, jessica's skintone could work, but its still a bit dark for my taste. she has a dark base skincolor. as in if u locked her up without any sun for a month she still wouldn't come out white, while think ww would.

I really can't believe the number of posts on this thread. It's amazing that this many people can get worked up about Wonder Woman. Probably one of the lamest characters in comicdom. An Amazon from an island with no males discovers a downed pilot and follows him back to his home where she decides to fight crime wearing a red white and blue shorts/bustier with a tiara? How did she get there? She took her invisible plane (it took her a week to find it, its invisible). When she captures a crook she does it with her golden lasso (obviously the weapon of choice for an amazon warrior) which forces the detainee to tell the truth ("that's right Wonder Woman, I was staring at your boobs".) In order to defend herself she uses her bracelets with which she deflects bullets (pretty darn dangerous since you can't control where those bullets deflect to). I'm all in favor of any hot lookin' babe to play the part cause the only thing interesting about the character is her bod.

hmm the same could be said about an alien from a technology advanced planet that only had one spaceship that fit one person sent to earth and raised by a wholesome kansas couple, who just so happens to look exactly like a human and can disguise himself wearing only glasses and combing his hair to the side. the same could be said about a man who travelled the planet, seemingly mastered everything and then decided to dress up in underwear and fight crime. shut up, all superheroes can sound stupid if you want them to.

Nope, even from the standpoint of superheroes, WW is pretty clunky. I never concern myself with the characters being based in reality, but at least try to create their reality in a logical manner. WW sounds like a couple of women with no clue about comics got together and just started tossing stuff out there. "What is she?" "Since she's a woman superhero lets make her an Amazon" "what kind of weapon should she use?" "Guns and stuff are so icky, maybe she could just lasso the mean people?" "She should be patriotic!" "But she's not from the U.S." "Well, just make her costume patriotic." on and on and on...

Now Hawkgirl makes good sense, everything about her character follows a logical order. And when she kicks ass, she kicks ass!

I think your getting Biel confused with the other Jessica.....Alba. Biel is a far better actress than Alba IMO..

Majik1387
10-26-2006, 12:52 AM
That's not a fair comparison. Just about every actress is better than Alba. I'll even say Elisha Cuthbert *vomits* is a better actress than Alba.

GL1
10-26-2006, 08:59 AM
Alba has a niche. Because she's hot they try to put her in bad girl/untouchable prize roles that simply aren't suited to her style. I won't say that she's a bad actor, but I will say that she is miscast often. I consider F4 an exception, but that's another thread.

Biel also has a niche, that isn't the hot girl OR the damsel in distress. I think the different aspects of her experience make her an awesome Diana, and her action experience makes her quite a Diana.

Just because someone is a good actor doesn't mean that they fit ALL roles well. Also, just because someone does not overwhelm us consistently doesn't make them a *bad* actor.

Wonder Woman is "ill concieved" inasmuch as she is the result of psychology, as opposed to a tool to produce entertainment. Superman was conceived of as a representative of as a modern day messiah, something that resonates with all of us. Batman was concieved of as a man pretending ot be a monster, again timeless universal resonance.

Wonder Woman was not concieved of as a girl's role model, a diplomat, a greek goddess or any of the other potpourri of things she's become. She was concieved of (by a man) as an experession of his understanding of female psychology. Prominent in his thinking was restraint and domination, deflection vs direct confrontation and the desire to be invisible on some level. This is NOT something that resonates universally, and thus, it creates the problems we see.

The thing that does resonate with ladies is the idea of a woman being powerful and working within "Man's World." Consistently, writers get away from that, resulting in the relative unpopularity Wonder Woman faces. If the only thing that resonates with men about Wonder Woman is that she's attractive, then she will continue to decrease in popularity, since there's always going to be someone hotter and the "most beautiful woman in the world" is just a title, not a reality, which would be subjective at best.

Chris Wallace
