Is this actually being made? I heard a rumour a little while ago that it was, but I've done some research and haven't really found anything substantial.
Do any of you guys have any information about this? I think it would be great if they did a third instalment, and the franchise is so popular, I don't see any real reason why they can't.

Looks like it's called Mass Effect and has nothing to do with Star Wars.

Mass Effect will own children.
No, because that would link Madonna to this game :(

As far as i know, there aren't any plans for it, which upsets me. I'd kill for a KOTOR 3.

^Yeah. The franchise has so much potential, there are virtually limitless stories they could do. And so many more characters they could incorporate.

I'd kill for a Star Wars game where you actually have a light saber, and not a glowing club....

Your opinion has officially been invalidated on account that Knights of the Old Republic is the third greatest games series ever after Metal Gear and the Legend of Zelda (which is fact by the way)
Hmm... I'd highly question that Metal Gear there... I think it's only there because of Sony's uberMarketing... A great series, but top 3 of all time? Questionable indeed.
And honestly, while KOTOR rocked, I'd take a same old same old BF3 over a KOTOR III that had a similar decrease in quality from KOTOR 1 to KOTOR 2

Wow. One of the goddamned STAPLES of RPG/nerd history and you never played it. No wonder you think Kingdom Hearts is great....
And, uh....can KOTOR count as a "franchise" despite having only two games and likely no more? It's not even particularly original content.
And GL1....if MGS weren't a great series and only owed to marketing, wouldn't any postMGS2 games have crashed and burned? Must mean there's LOTS of support....

I thought the top 4 were Final Fantasy, Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda, and Grand Theft Auto. Guess I was wrong...or am I.
These four have had the most influence over the video game industry and sold millions.

Not surre about KOTOR 3 to be honest. 1 was ace, 2 was a huge dissapointment imo. 0 change in gameplay... I mean wow... that's horrible  And then the storyline didn't lay a scratch on the first. If they're gonna make a 3rd, gameplay changes and better storyline please.

GTA has had a pretty immediate effect, but I don't know that I'd call it "of all time" yet...
Final Fantasy, maybe....Dragon Quest is the bigger franchise and (for the early years anyway) the trend setter and innovator....
Mario and Zelda, undeniably.

Definately. The combat in both games sucked. I don't want to stand there waiting for my opponent to attack. They need to make a story to atleast rival the 1st. The 1st was just incredible.

I actually liked the story of the 2nd one better than the first. Its just a shame Lucasarts had them rush the game for a christmas release. Waiting patiently for the restoration project to come out...

I hope that with the next gen systems we see suped up battles where the light sabers can be blocked by Jedi and Dark Jedi but seriously cut through anything else like butter.
Sure, some could say that it would make the game to easy, but if a company can't think of more ways to make a game difficult that's sad.
That being said, I could have SWORN that I read that KOTOR 3 would be coming and they wouldn't just let us hang.

One thing about KOTOR III that needs to be done is more choices than a human for your main character.
Hmmm...
Well, with multiple races you create a need for even more variable side storylines, which, while increasing replayablity, may water down the main story since you can't take the main character's gender OR race into account when making the story. Lets face it, a story about a Bothan or Wookie Jedi is likely to be radically different from that of a human jedi... how people react to them and interact with them is generaly different... dialogue should reflect that... Unless a storng raceless genderless story can be made, I vote against more choices than human...
That said, making the Saber an imbalancing weapon is hard work, especially with low opponent counts present in previous KOTORs... I think if we had BF numbers in combat at a time, we could put some pressure on those Jedis with ranged weapons, as well as a few clever bosses with inventive devices, explosives, manueverability, terrain disadvantages and so on, that could really make being a jedi a hard road to travel, and that's WITHOUT the introduction of Dark Jedi and Sith Lords.
On a side note, I think an entire game could be developed around the sword play involved with Jedi and lightsabers, and that a sufficiently large number of interlocking animations (where one saberstrike is crippling if not lethal) could be fun to play out, especially if interspersed with saber-to-blasters and blaster-to-blasters combat... especially if ship stuff came into play.
I think a fun thing with KOTOR III could be going from a true padawan's perspective and dealing with the death of your master early on and eventually coming to a realization that the entire jedi council on Courscant has turned to the dark side, many of them unaware how self-centered and power hungry they've become, despite an outward appearance of goodness. It's up to you, once you discover how horrible the consequences of your missions have been, to restore light to the order and redeem it from darkness.
Another great thing to add in would be an actual war going on. We keep hearing about wars going on before and after the game time, lets get IN one. Almost to the point where KOTOR III becomes a storyline-rich, jedi-centric single player-only RPG version of BF III, set in the KOTOR time period. A Jedi Civil War that incites the galaxy to choose sides could be interesting. Each planet a wartorn front, and you, Padawaned to a great general who dies on your first planet. There's your fifty hours.
I could play that... yes I could...
Of course, in all likelihood, KOTOR III will not happen, and if it does, it's not going to be made by the same team, or the same quality, involved in KOTOR 1.

It looks awesome but so did the Episode III game.
Man... I can't imagine more simple mechanics that the Episode III game... once you've played it for five mintues you've played it forever...
And what the heck is wrong with these people that can't get co-op right for a game with JEDI that ALWAYS travel in TWOS! It's just rediculous...
A two-player RPG... hmmm... interesting!
That said, The Force Unleashed will be pretty and great for destructive types, but there's probably going to be a lot lacking in gameplay, storyline and star wars 'feel.'

If they could somehow combine the light saber combat, acrobatics, and accessibility of force powers from the "Jedi Knight" games with the role-playing of the first 2 KOTOR games, I'd be very pleased with KOTOR III.
That said, they should finally make another chapter in the Kyle Katarn saga, resuming the role of Kyle in order to hunt down Jaden Korr after he stole the scepter in "Jedi Academy."
C'mon Lucasarts! Get it in gear! :cmad::csad::up:

While I agree, I would still absolutely love it if they let us play as Twi'lek. They are a very prominent Jedi race (meaning we've seen a lot of Jedi Twi'leks) and being that they are so common in the universe people probably wouldn't treat them any different then a human.
