Who is getting this game???
I know I am I've been waiting for a Conan game like City of Heroes for years now and can't wait till this comes out. It sucks that you can't team up till your a level 20 but I proably will go out on my own anyways but this game is shaping up to look great.

I'd get it if it weren't an MMO.
I've tried two MMO's and the lag was ridiculous. :o
They really should have reconsidered their online only strategy and put out a free form Conan themed fantasy game similar to Oblivion. Haven't WoW, Star Wars Galaxies and D&D:Stormreach pretty much claimed the monopoly of online fantasy gamers anyhow?

Seriously, with 6 million people playing WoW, how can you expect to get anyone else with an MMO that's probably not as good?
This is why games fail.

I have questions about AoC:
When does it officially come out?
How many can play at once?
What systems is it for?
Do you also play it online?
How have the reviews been thus far?
Ultimate_Superman
11-27-2006, 09:50 AM
It comes out sometime next year.
You play by yourself building up your person till your a level 20 then you can play with as many people you want. (Although you can interact with other players in cities and all but can't team up till level 20)
It is for PC
Yes you have to play it online
The reviews for this game is they are holding it as the best MMO since WOW

I'd get this game if my computer could handle it. It looks absolutely amazing. I had trouble believing this was an MMO.
Why don't they make it for the 360? More people would buy it because the system would be able to handle it and no one would have to worry that their computer sucked.
And with the mouse and keyboard on the way, why not?

Does AoC really has blood, gore, and even some T&A from the rumors I heard?
Ultimate_Superman
05-19-2008, 02:04 PM
yes it does. When you fight you see blood flying from the other person if you have a sword or use your club to hit them in the face. As far as the T&A go there is plenty of that; one woman who you save at the start of the game offers herself to you after saving her and helping her get back to her city. You just have to find her house in that city once you get there.
kez1984
05-19-2008, 02:17 PM
What class are you playing as?
When retail comes for me on 23'd gona play as Priest of Mitra, is that the main healer class? There seemed to be alot of people with healing capability's.
Ultimate_Superman
05-19-2008, 02:30 PM
Right now I am a Cimmerian and my class is a Barbarian but there are a lot of other races and classes out there. Once you reach level 5 thats when you can start to interact with other online players in the game. I have met a few healers and they are cool as well as the priest. Right now they claim to have already one million players on the demo and that number will only grow once it is released on the 20th. The only problem right now with the game is the lag. Because they are working out all the bugs while you play. But I will also say this this game is not for older computers, this game has a lot of graphics and you will need a good video card and at least 1 GB of ram to play this game with out a long wait as far as lag goes. That is why I fished my custom built PC before this game was released. The only question I have is when this game comes out for 360 can I still play as my person and still be on the same server or will all that change.

Thanks. As a WOW player since it's debut, I do admit that I'm very intrigued by the game. I'm pretty sure my computer can run it, but since my playing time is limited if this game is too demanding I might have to give it a pass. Both AoC and WAR look to be formidable competition against WOW, and that's good because we need more competition to make everyone better.

If "casuals" like me who works 40 hours a week and have a family & kid can play it, then I may give it a shot. I will wait until the lag problem is addressed first though; it's no fun when the game lags down to a drag.
Ultimate_Superman
05-19-2008, 03:51 PM
yea I am pretty much like you because since I work 40 hrs a week and have a family I can only play early in the morning before my wife and the baby get up and maybe late at night or when I have free time to myself and this game provides for people like that. That is why I liked COH so much because I can complete a mission within 30 min to 45 min and that is how AOC is. It also has markers for those who leave the game for a while and return so you can find your way back to the mission or point of contact if you turn them on which is a huge plus. The lag thing is a problem but they have said it should be fixed before the world wide launch (tomorrow).

It goes live today for the rest of the world. Its not like COH because it is more mature and as you go along you determine how your player's story will go. I mean if you kill another player in PVP mode they can put a reward out for your death or the person you kill would get more points or whatever if they hunt you down and kill you them self. You can also raid towns and take everything they have and how you talk to your contacts determine how friendly and helpful they are. Also you can have drunken bar fights which is always fun.
It is coming out for the 360 (between August and October) but it is unknown if you can link up with people playing on their PC

Wow...this game is really impressive from first impressions, it's like an mmo inside a single player game, npc's aren't static like other mmo's. The character creation is blast, it's alot like oblivions, so if you want, you wont see your twin brother all the time. The UI is abit crap atm, hopefully they fix it.

Yeah, character creation has to be one of WOW's weakest feature, because it's hard not to see your twins (or triplets) when you are inside cities like Shattath. From the screenshots, it looks like you can have alot of freedom creating the facial features of your characters, and that is quite impressive.

When will the Xbox 360 version coming out?
JT: Next year. When we launch we are splitting up into three. We have been working on the Xbox for a long time actually. But as we hit the last six months we were like, let's focus on the PC version. That's where we know the market is. We're trailing about a year. No longer than a year. As soon as we launch, stabilise and have everything up and running, all the systems going, we're going to have the live team fixing stuff, speaking with the players, what do you guys want? We have the expansion pack team and then we have an Xbox team. But we're pretty much Guinea pigging our way into the Xbox, just like Microsoft is. We are exploring frontiers on how to deal with the consoles and online games.
Any ideas how it might be different?
JT: It will be the same essence and the same experience. We want for the people who want to do it, we want them to be able to play with their PC friends if they like to. It's not a force thing but we would like that to happen. But obviously the control mechanism, the communication, all this is stuff we are solving on a daily basis. The patching, the install, the footprint, the payment, the servers, the customer service... it's a challenge. But we will get there eventually.
But you intend for it to come out max a year after the PC version?
JT: Yeah, maximum a year. But I don't feel comfortable about promising a date. We've been promising quite a few dates on this one. But you know things happen.

Here's something someone posted on the AoC forum, oddly, it does seem to work.
"Go to Video Options. Click High I don't care if your computer sucks. Click it and shut up. Go to the Advanced Tab. Disable shadows completely. If you are on a laptop, scroll down to the system texture cache bar and maximize it. Click Apply, then OK There is a bug that causes low settings to actually produce worse FPS than high settings. With the shadows disabled, you can actually play better on high settings than low"
Even on my other comp, with all setting and shadows/textures very low or off, with only bloom and Pixel shader 3 on, the game still looks pretty good. The main frame killer is shadows.

Funcom has reported its financial results for the fourth quarter, revealing an operating loss of USD 23.3 million, caused by a depreciation of USD 22.8 million due to the lagging performance of Age of Conan.
The poor performance is compounded by the announcement that the company's chief financial officer, Olav Sandnes, has resigned from the position.
"Funcom is a company with a substantial potential based on a unique combination of skill sets in a fast growing global market. I wish Trond Aas and the rest of the organisation all the best in realising the full potential of the company," commented Sandnes.

It seems the new MMO's are having a rough time. Warhammer just laid off a pile of people earlier this month and now this news. Not being able to maintain a subscriber base is the kiss of death for MMO's. Can MMO's apply for a federal bailout? :hehe:

I just read that in May's edition of Online Gamer magazine they included the full retail copy of Age of Conan along with giving you 30 days worth of trial membership. :wow:
If you ever wanted to give AoC a shot, here's your chance.
Using May's Online Gamer issue you can actually get a total of 37 days of free AoC. Sign up for their 7 day trial promotion and after your 7 day trial is up just enter the 30 day membership code that comes with the magazine.
Going looking for a copy of that mag tonight.
