LMAO. I love how your'e apparently "required" to get a 2nd controller with the X360, but you only need 1 for the PS3.
Of course, not to mention the "required" HD-DVD drive, HDD, and XBOX Live service.
The article states the Microsoft may be seeking legal actions for the spread of this false info. That'd be great to see just in time for PS3's launch.

You guys are all looking at it wrong. Sony is showing how much it'll cost to get roughly the same thing from X360 that you do from PS3.
The Live, Extra Controller, HD-DVD player and HDD are all things that DON'T come with the 360 core package, while (I guess) 2 controllers, Blu-Ray, HDD and "Live" come with PS3 core package.

Oh, but it's cool to see anything Sony does as a vicious lie.
They've used some bad wording in suggesting you're required to buy certain things when you aren't, but it is a reasonable price comparison. The PS3 is cheaper when viewed in that context.

I agree it's misleading.
But comparison wise, the HD-DVD, equivalent of the Blu-Ray capabilities of PS3, costs $200 on its own. In that sense, both consoles come in at similar prices.
Yes, we should get a choice. With the 360 you aren't required to get HD-DVD, but that aside, the consoles can be compared in that manner.

The 360 & HD DVD Drive together = $100 dollars cheaper then the PS3

I actually recognised this in my post.
I'm not agreeing with Sony's tactics of forcing Blu-Ray upon us. Just saying they can compare HD-DVD as next-gen DVD along with Blu-Ray. In terms of pricing at least.

Maybe if you bought the Xbox 360 and PS3 to play nothing but movies would I buy this "You need the HD-DVD to be on the same level as Blu-Ray." **** but the fact of the matter is the 360 and PS3 are gaming consoles.****ing Gaming Consoles. Not movie players. Period. End of discussion.

I'm not sure Microsoft would have much of a case.
In terms of 'requires users to buy', what is meant is 'doesn't come for free', which is true. It doesn't mean that users 'must' buy these components.

No, there's a big difference between "Required" and "To match PS3 functionality". I mean, they're saying the HD-DVD player is REQUIRED for the 360, when not a single 360 game will need one. Memory card required, along with a hard drive? No.
You can't spin this stuff, it's just wrong.

I also like how they chose the most expensive way to go about getting your XBOX360 to match PS3's functionality...
The chart is showing you what you would need to buy if you are wanting all of PS3's functionality. Anyone who's going in with this in mind would NOT buy the Core system. They'd buy the Premium system that comes with a wireless controller, the 20G HDD, a headset (sold seperately on PS3), and Component cables (sold seperately on PS3) for only $100 more.
Also, if you're buying the HD-DVD drive for the 360, it comes with a remote control (sold seperately on PS3), and a HD-DVD movie (Blu-Ray movie only included in first shipment of PS3s).
If Sony REALLY was playing the "how much would they cost if you matched feature-for-feature, then they'd include all of that.
Not to mention, you should NEVER underestimate the value of CHOICE.

I keep forgeting your the one who thinks that the core 360 is a good SKU aren't you?
It's not like Microsoft hasn't had similarly skewed comparisons (Like the one IGN put up that did idiotic things and had lies in it).
But use this to further narrow your vision, by all means.
Anyway, has Sony confirmed a price on their headsets yet? Rumor is you can use any Blue Tooth device, so any BT headset should work.
Of course the comparison would be made to favor the company that is making it, do you guys not understand how these things work? Or are you just ajusting your expectations and standards in such a way to act indignent when Sony does what every other company does.
Get over it.

I keep forgeting your the one who thinks that the core 360 is a good SKU aren't you?
I'm not sure if that's directed at me or not, but I'll answer anyway.
For me and what I want out of a system, the Core 360 is unnecessary. I like to play online and have a HDD so for my muisic, game saves, videos, demos, and XBLA games. So for the price, I definitely need the Premium system. So in my individual case, the Core doesn't help me.
BUT what about a parent who's buying their kid an XBOX360?
They don't want their kid to be online with their game system, so that means no need for space for videos, demos, and XBLA games. They have no interest in putting their own songs on the system. Thus, the HDD is completely unnecessary. But they want to save their games? Fine then, buy a $30 extra, they can do so with a memory card.
So for someone who just wants to play their games and doesn't care about online, marketplace, or song-ripping, a Core 360 and a memory card would be the perfect match. $330 compared to $400.
So again. For MY case, the Core 360 does me no good and isn't even really an option. But to assume that the Core isn't right for ANYONE is just plain wrong.
Again....'choice".

Following the tremendous heat that Sony’s next-generation comparison fact sheet generated, the company has decided to issue a statement. Dave Karraker, Senior Director of Corporate Communications of SCEA informed us:
"Through our comparison chart we are not implying that you must purchase the myriad of peripherals and add-ons that Microsoft offers to play your Xbox 360. You don't. However, if you want to attempt to come close to the performance of the $499 PlayStation 3 by using your Xbox 360, Core or Premium, you could only do that through expensive add-ons -- that is what our chart is demonstrating. Once you add it all up, it would cost you more than our $499 unit, and you would still not come close to everything we offer, ie: free multiplayer gaming, 50GB storage capacity of Blu-ray disc, Blu-ray disc player for games AND movies, processing power of the Cell Broadband Engine."
We are still waiting for an official comment from Microsoft on Sony's announcements and claims. (http://news.teamxbox.com/xbox/12055/Sony-Clarifies-Its-Fact-Sheet-Statements/)

If you read any of my previous posts, you'd see me clearly disagree with Sony's decision to force Blu-Ray on us. I'd rather have the choice, like the 360 fans do, and opt for the cheaper console.
The diagram just compares how much a 360 would cost if it were to match the PS3 in terms of features. In that sense, it's a good comparison. Matching the consoles for feature for feature.
And yes, I agree, it's better to have the choice. But then, why would Sony advertise that fact? No business in their right mind would play up to their own weaknesses. There's no sense in it.

And buisnesses can get away with crap like forcing blu ray onto people because people like you and zenien defend them and allow them to get away with it.
