From my article on MTVNew.com
"Also unexpected was a feature in "Genji 2" to install the game, committing 4GB of data from the game's Blu-Ray disc to the PS3's hard drive — a three-minute one-time-only procedure available from the game's start menu that a Sony rep said cuts down in-game load times from about 15 seconds to four seconds. That's something Sony can offer, given that both versions of its console include a hard drive — 20GB and 60GB, respectively. "Genji" also happens to be done. The game is ready to be manufactured, one of the PS3's first finished works."

So one game will eat up 25% of your HDD if you get the $500 system?
I mean it's cool and all to decrease load times, but that's kinda rediculous, isn't it?
It's smart.
You could buy the game like that, put it on your HD, and trade it in the next day.
I would.

It's not like you're installing the full game, big difference.
Installing it is completely optional, and if 20 gigs isn't enough for you, you can repalce the Hard Drive on the PS3 with any other 2.5 HDD.

Why buy when renting is cheaper?

This is a feature in a game no one cares about, but I hope it doesn't become standard. It's not a good idea for console games to install.

Installing a gme onto the Hard Drive to cut down on load times? HD Loader is really popular, and it's not like HD loader works with any game either so it's not just for Piracy.

Genji is bigger then 4 gigs. http://media.teamxbox.com/forum/smilies/dagnabbit.gif

and the other option is to not have this feature and wait for longer load times. This is a good thing. Its not mandatory to do it but if you want it, then its nice to have. I hope more games offer this

You'll still need to have the disc in the PS3 in order to play it, so that won't work. It just puts all the textures and everything onto the HDD so that it doesn't need to keep reading from the disc (hence: less load times) to get the data.
Makes me wonder though...if so much of the game can be put onto the HDD and only take up 4G...how big could the whole game be anyway? Certainly it would fit easily on a DVD?
Also, they say that this is a feature only possible on the PS3 since every PS3 will have a HDD and the XBOX360 doesn't. But it's optional, right? Well then what's stopping an XBOX360 game for having the option to do the same, if the person has a HDD and wants to?

In theory there's nothign stopping Microsoft from doing something similar (Dare I say: Copying Sony). Where did you read that a Sony rep said it would only be possible with the PS3?

That's actually a great idea... as long as they make sure people don't figure out how to crack it so you can play it without the dvd.
