View Full Version : Best Batman love interest

We've all argued about the various aspects of the Batman films, but we've never had a poll about which love interest in all 5 theatrical Batman movies is the best. So, here goes: Which girl was the best love interest to Batman, both in looks, characterization, etc.? (There can only be one pick, so choose wisely.)

Vicki Vale (Kim Basinger)
Selena Kyle (Michelle Pfieffer)
Chase Meridian (Nicole Kidman)
Julie Madison (Elle MacPherson)
Rachel Dawes (Katie Holmes)

Not a hard choice... Selena Kyle (Michelle Pfieffer)

Bruce loved Vicki, but she didn't love Batman, so that counts her out.

Selina was a soul mate. A perfect girl for him, except that she was too self-destructive and couldn't be saved.

Chase actually saved Bruce's psyche. Technically, she was the perfect girl for him, but once again, she's someone who wouldn't approve of the continuing danger.

Julie was just a fling for the press, really.

Rachel has the fire to match his own, but doesn't like Batman either.

Selina, overall, is the best, but still, there can never truly be a perfect fit for Bruce. For even if Selina wasn't so self-destructive, and accepted the danger, there's no promise that she'd go to the "good" side.

I must be the only person who thinks Kim Basinger was great. She gave Vicki Vale a real honesty and a grounded sense that helped the entire film. Vicki is the stepping stone for the audience to the fantasy of Batman and the Joker. She works really well as a Dorothy character.

Michelle Pfeiffer was obviously magnificent.

Nicole Kidman was also great, feisty yet vulnerable, smart and slinky.

Elle MacPherson did about as well as anyone could with such a nothing role.

Katie Holmes was too restrained, too emotionless. You sense she wants to lecture Bruce all day rather than just be with him. Even her reason for rejecting him at the end is philosophical.

Says who? I'm a big Vale fan. Just 'cause she wasn't his soul mate doesn't mean she wasn't great. I really enjoy the intelligence and the "light" she brings to the film. Her introductory scene with Knox is wonderfully played.

Easily Michelle Pfeiffer's Selina Kyle. Her and Keaton had great chemistry together IMO. And she was such a tortured soul too.

I love that about her.

While Kevin is wrong about being the only person who loves Vicki, I think I may very well be the only person in the world who isn't crazy about Michelle Pfeiffer's Catwoman.

Personally, I'm not a giant fan of any of the love interest, but, of them, Basinger's Vicki has always been my favorite. I think, she did the best with what she was given, and the whole romance played out well enough.

I myself picked Vicki Vale. Like the earlier post said, she played off Wayne easily in the first scene they were together. Selena and Bruce had more fire but she was too self-destructive and that would've ended the relationship. Rachel Dawes is also a strong character, but seems out of her element to handle Bruce and the possible dangers.

And let's face it, Basinger is way hotter than the previous four women put together. The only thing about her that annoyed me was her screaming every time she got scared or startled.

Selina Kyle was the best. She was a love interest amnd one of the most amazing villiains, not just a damsel in distress.

I am a Vicky fan too.

Chase Meridian was just an airhead, she never got over her 16. Dunno where she found her psychiatrist diplomma.

McPherson's Julie Madison never actually existed.

Rachel Dawes was so poorly acted that the character is hardly appreciable.

I liked Vicki Vale the best.
Catwoman/ Selina Kyle was good, but on the edge of being psychotic.
Chase Meridian and Julie Madison were good eye candy, but meh.
Now Rachel Dawes was a good character and good love interest for Bruce, but the problem I had was the performance of Katie Holmes.

Vicki Vale. She was cute and made me laugh with the whole "I'm only 108 pounds Batman" thing. She seems like someone Bats could settle down with, while Selina is that crazy chick you just have a fling with.

11-26-2006, 01:10 AM
supposedly there was a knife fight between the two of them and Julie does die. whether or not it was actually filmed, or is even a true story is highly debatable.

i'd believe it. it would explain why Ivy has the knife in the first place and why Batgirl looks nervous when she first whips it out.

vicki was great because she let bruce get it on the first date. but i think the sex he would have with selina would be incredible.

Doh i voted Vale but it probably is kyle they where both great but the chemistry with kyle is ever so slightly better and BR is my favourite of the films. Vale was a smoking hottie AND she had a major relevance to the story all female leads after these two seemed tacked on.

As a piece of trivia keaton/phieffers chemistry can partly be explained by the fact they had a relationship a few years before the film was made therest is just great acting.

From best to worse:

1. Selina Kyle - Great character, great actress, sexy as hell, plus her psyche matched Bruce's better than anyone else's.
2. Vicki Vale - Basinger was teriffic, smart, beautiful and realistic. She was just too sane for Bruce (which is also why she is so good in the film).
3. Rachel Dawes - She has the energy and determination, but she's a bit underplayed (by both Katie Holms and the script).
4. Chase Meridian - Could have been good, but wasn't. At all. As was mentioned before, she seemed like a teenager with raging hormones.
5. Julie Madison - Who?

Selena Kyle (Michelle Pfieffer) & Vicki were the only proper love interests with Selina being Batman/Bruce's soulmate and always will be in both films and comics, Julie Madison was barely used in the film, Chase Meridian was just a fling even go as far as saying a Tart, Rachel Dawes was never a real comic character but was based loosely on a different Rachael which annoyed me & the fact she was played by a really bad actress didn't help though I'm interested as to what Maggie will bring to the character.

If you read Batman Year One and see Sarah Essen...She looks almost identical to Kim Basinger.

Vicki Vale was ANNOYING...Whoever comes up with the correct answer on how many times she screams gets a dollar.

I couldnt get into the relationship of Bruce and Selina. It was very forced and unbelievable.

Chase Meridian was OK. Bruce told Alfred that hes never been in love before...wow! Nicole being sexier than Michelle paid off. Catwoman will be spitting in her comic.

Elle Macpherson. Her character in the comic only set fleece Bruce for his money. I liked Elle though...If you read the Playboy she was in and watched Sirens youll understand.:woot:

Best love interest is Selina Kyle, hands down. I love how they are drawn together by their duality conflicts. Selina has the best view on relationships:

Selina: "Was Vicki right about your difficulty with duality?"
Bruce: "If I say yes, then you're going to think of me as a Norman Bates/Ted Bundy and....well you might not let me kiss you"
Selina: "It's the so called normal guys who always let you down. Sickos never scare me. At least they're committed"

Actually, I'm a big fan of the Batman-Catwoman link-up, but I didn't like Michelle Pfiefer in the role. She wasn't a strong enough presence for me. But Nicole Kidman was. And the character she played had brains. She was a shrink, which was something Bruce Wayne could have really used in his life. She was great as Dr. Meridian, and I think she should play Catwoman in the next bat-movie.

I don't know why but oh, she was and how.

She felt attracted to Batman because of the rubber suit and sculpted muscles? I mean, her being a psychiatrist she could have felt attracted to Batman's condition - which, I know, was suggested to - but it was clear that her main attraction was due to the external looks and that's the code she handled herself. All she could think of in order to "attract" him was to turn the bat-signal on - which was quite irresposible - and wear a babydoll.

Ding, ding, ding... bat!
