First wave of Virtual Console games revealed
Nintendo says gamers will have 30 downloadable Wii games to choose from by year's end.
While Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo are asking gamers to shell out for the next generation of gaming experiences, all three companies recognize that there are a number of people willing to spend money on previous generations' gaming experiences, as well. Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade has been offering retro titles since the system launched last year, and Sony recently detailed its plans to offer original PlayStation games for download on the PlayStation 3.
Nintendo had already announced the Virtual Console and some of its publishing partners, but today the company laid out the first wave of titles, 30 in all, to be available by the end of the year. The games (listed in full below) will come from Nintendo, Sega, and Hudson.
The company also reiterated the starting price points for the games, noting that NES games start at 500 Wii Points ($5), TurboGrafx-16 games at 600 Wii Points ($6), Super NES and Sega Genesis games at 800 Wii Points ($8), and Nintendo 64 games at 1,000 Wii Points ($10). Wii Points will be available online or at retail in packs of 2,000 with a suggested price of $20.

So wait, why is Nintendo putting more Genesis games on for the launch than SNES or N64? I'm especially disappointed that Super Mario World isn't on this list... :(

Actually, that's in the past tense for me. My sister lost it on me about 2 years ago, and I've been too lazy to get a new one. Once I learned about VC, I just gave up and decided to wait.

Has anyone beat the original TOZ? Because, let me tell you, that game is challenging without any outside help. I have the game on my TOZ Collector's Disc (along with OOT, MM, TOZ II), but it just feels right to have it on my Wii, you know?

I've only played the original Zelda on a emulator in high school but I hated the keyboard controls so I'll download that for sure. Maybe I'll get F-Zero. But if this is the list for the rest of 2006 I don't see a rush to get a VC Controller. Spend time and money on Wii games.

Yeah, in Japan they get both. I know they would never put Super Mario All-Stars on the VC but it would be great if they had the original NES versions of SMB1-3 and separately release the SNES versions of SMB1-3. Probably make more money.

This thing has been bugging me, can you play all the oldconsoles with the Gamecube controller or do you have to buy a VC Controller to play? I know the Wii Remote can play NES games but I seem to recall that Gamecube controllers can also play SNES or N64 or Sega games but lately all I see is 'VC Controller'; is it just to get people to buy the new controller?

Actually, I do still buy cd's. That is mostly to feed my OCD to have the cds all perfectly lined up and strait.
And what I was saying was that I don't enjoy using a keyboard to play a game. Plus I don't feel like buying a controller to attach to the computer.

More Virtual Console Games Revealed
The ESRB lists eight more classics bound for Wii's download service.
by Matt Casamassina http://wii.ign.com/articles/744/744650p1.html
November 7, 2006 - The Entertainment Software Ratings Board's official website has approved, rated and consequently listed eight more titles that will be showing up on a Wii Virtual Console near you in the not-too-distant future. The games are naturally all classics and from very recognizable franchises. In the interest in saving you time, we've listed the titles and their ratings below:
* Duck Hunt (E for Everyone)
* Hogan's Alley (E for Everyone)
* Kid Icarus (E for Everyone)
* Kirby's Adventure (E for Everyone)
* Pilot Wings (E for Everyone)
* Pro Wrestling (E for Everyone)
* Punch-Out (E for Everyone)
* Wild Gunman (E for Everyone)
Nintendo itself has not officially announced these games for the Wii's Virtual Console, but the ESRB is a reliable source because the Big N has to submit its games to the Board for approval in advance. In other words, the ESRB got this list from Nintendo of America.
NOA executives continue to state that approximately 30 Virtual Console games will be available between the Wii's launch in November and the end of December. Another 10 titles will be released every month beginning in January.

From IGN
It's important to note, however, that just because a game is submitted to the ESRB does not guarantee it a specific time slot. Games like Mario Kart 64, The Legend of Zelda, and Super Metroid can in fact be held after approval for Nintendo to release at its discretion. If this list is any indication, however, you're most likely looking at a handful of early 2007 Virtual Console games to look forward to.

Nintendo press release - VC games every Monday, News and Weather channels to become operational later
November 16th, 2006
Nintendo’s new Wii(TM) video game system not only changes how people play games, but redefines how they interact with both the system and their televisions. With the Wii Menu, Nintendo offers a gateway to new experiences through a collection of interactive channels people can use to customize their gaming and entertainment options.
The Wii Menu serves as the main portal to the different functions of Wii, and is designed to evolve throughout the life of the system. Some functions can be used right out of the box and more will roll out during the next few weeks and into next year, with content continually changing over time. Wii goes on sale in the Americas Nov. 19 at an MSRP of $249.99.
“The diversity of the Wii Menu has something for both gamers and non-gamers,” says Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “The options exist to help introduce current non-players to Wii and help us bring gaming to the masses.”
On launch day, players who want to play a Wii game or a Nintendo GameCube(TM) game simply pop in the disc, aim their motion-sensitive Wii Remote(TM) at the Wii Menu and click on the Disc Channel to start the game. It’s that simple. But some of the real fun with the Wii Menu comes with customization. The Mii(TM) Channel lets users create caricatures of themselves (or anyone else) that can be used first in Wii Sports(TM), a collection of five sports games packed in with the Wii system. Up to 10 Mii characters can be stored in a single Wii Remote, and players can carry them to a friend’s house and populate multiple Wii systems.
Using the Photo Channel, users can explore their creative talents by developing a slide show or showing off their best shots in an easy, fun way. With an SD memory card from a digital camera, users can display their photos on their televisions and perform basic editing and manipulation.
The Wii Shop Channel serves as Wii’s online storefront, where visitors can redeem Wii Points(TM) to download games or other items. Users need a high-speed Internet connection to access the Wii Shop Channel and choose from at least 12 classic Virtual Console(TM) games that will be ready to play on launch day. Some of the games a player can download include: Donkey Kong(R) (NES(R)), based on the arcade game of the same name; SimCity(R) (SNES(TM)),
where players get to build a city from the ground up, being responsible for each decision they make; Super Mario 64(R), the first-ever true 3-D game, which changed the face of gaming forever; Sonic the Hedgehog(R) (Genesis(R)), the fastest blue hedgehog on Earth whips through hair-raising loop-de-loops and into dizzying dives; and Bomberman(R) ‘93 (TurboGrafx16(TM)), the exciting, powered-up version that followed the original Bomberman(R).
More Virtual Console games will become available weekly every Monday following launch and by year’s end, gamers will be able to pick from a library of 30 or more classic games from the Nintendo Entertainment System(R), Super NES(R), Nintendo(R) 64, Sega Genesis(TM) and TurboGrafx16 consoles. Users buy Wii Points at retail or with a credit card in the Wii Shop Channel and redeem their Wii Points to download the classic games. NES games start at 500 Wii
Points, Super NES games start at 800 Wii Points and Nintendo 64 games start at 1,000 Wii Points. Sega Genesis games start at 800 Wii Points and TurboGrafx16 games start at 600 Wii Points.
The Wii Shop Channel is also where users will go to download the Opera browser that will let them surf the Internet from the comfort of their couches on Wii’s Internet Channel. More information about the availability of the browser will be released in the coming weeks.
On Dec. 20, Nintendo will roll out the Forecast Channel. Users will be able to access free local weather information, which is continually updated. Users can access worldwide weather information by browsing a 3-D globe. Weather information will be supplied by Weathernews. A high-speed Internet connection is required to access the Forecast Channel.
Then on Jan. 27, the Wii Menu News Channel will make headlines with the latest news from around the world provided by the Associated Press. A high-speed Internet connection is also needed to access the News Channel.

^I just bought that today. Haven't gotten a chance to play it, though. Been too busy w/ Wii Sports and TP. Can't wait to give it a try, though. Depending what they release tomorrow, my next VC purchase may be SimCity.

I really hope they put Goldeneye up there sooner or later. That would make everything right with the world. :woot:

I believe Activision owns the current rights to the 007 video game franchise. EA recently lost it. Activision, Microsoft and Nintendo would split the profits. In a perfect world they would make GoldenEye/Perfect Dark available for the Wii and 360. It could happen. Fans usually get what they want, they just have to wait. Hopefully nobody is a douche and demand they get more of the profits. Any Donkey Kong games will be on the Wii since they are Nintendo owned characters.

They used the PC version of Sonic CD that had this stupid loading screen and pauses whenever Sonic got something like invincibility or super speed + they applied this lame hyper AA to the game that made it look like it was rendered using pastels. :mad:
I own Gems collection. :o
When are Mario Kart 64 and StarFox 64 coming on, dammit! :cmad:

Diddy Kong Racing DS is coming out next year. It has some enhancements and new features but still is the N64 game but with 8 player wi-fi.

So if that is the case (Which I'll be buying it. :O) then I think it's safe to assume we'll see the DKC franchise on the VC service...or I hope.

But it was arguably the best Sonic game since Sonic 2.
Who owns the franchises by Working Designs now? Does anyone know? I would love to own the Lunar games and have them available to download from the Sega CD. Or Popfull Mail.

That's amazing. I'd only buy the SNES adapter, though. I've been playing LoZ on the VC, and it plays just fine. Anyway, this will probably be available sooner than more Classic controllers.
