View Full Version : What Unknown Treasures do you live near?
Roughneck

Okay so some of you may know that I have recently quit my job and I am driving a small RV with my dogs accross North America for the next few months.
Some of you say Who the hell is Roughneck? How does someone I've enver heard of get so many posts?
Anyway the fact of the matter is I am going to be extremely mobile very soon and I want to know what to see.
I know of the big stuff that I want to see like The Grand Canyon and the Alamo and the Redwood Forrest and Old Faithful and Graceland and the Jom Henson Statue at the University of Maryland.
Anyway I want to know what else is there? A lot of areas have awesome things that just aren't widely known about ....Like Moad Utah? How many of you know about the Rock Erosions north of Moab Utah?
So what small hidden Gems do you have nearby that I need to see in my Cross Continent tour?

Umm..its kind of sad that you are going by yourself and your dogs. Maybe find some friends to go with. Itd be a lot funner.

Here's a couple in my nearest towns:

This church has been around for about 700-800 years, apparently it's in the Doomsday book. It's about a 5 minute walk from my house.

Duck pond I have been to many times over the years and is also a registrary office, which you can see in the picture. :)

Well not the exact, but I plan to travel around once I get my life in some order.
You should come visit Pincher Creek, and we can get drunk together.

One man's Hidden Gem may be another's Nightmare. It all depends on the kind of things you like to see. If you have a fear of tight dark spaces, you wouldn't want to go caving. If you have a fear of heights, you wouldn't want to go to the Grand Canyon or the Rockies. If you have a fear of wide open spaces, you'ld have to avoid the plains.
However, that said, one of my Favourite places to go (especially in winter) is the Allan Gardens Conservatory
http://www.toronto.ca/parks/parks_gardens/allangdns.htm
It's a lovely large green house, that hardly anyone seems to visit. There is a donation box, but no real admission fee.

Um... well... uh... Renee Zellweger grew up around here, and... uh... we have a mall that kinda looks like it belongs in Disney World...
Ah, who am I kidding? This town has jack squat. They don't believe in history around here so they tear down anything remotely oldish and replace it with something fancy and new.

they all say "the pay is so much better out there" then they get there and realize that cost of living is higher too, then say things like "ok, so now i'm here, getting paid more, but still as poor as i was there".
