I'm suprised there is no Guild Wars thread here, considering its a hugely popular game and is often at odds with WoW. I'm sure I'm not the only GW player here on the hype.

I've got Guild Wars and Factions.
I haven't played it much lately, but I probably will next month when I move to a new college. It plays like a dream on my laptop, which I find very odd. It looks much better then WOW, but WOW isn't very stable.

This is my first MMORG, and its a blast! I got Fractions, and pretty soon I plan on getting Nightfall.
Look me up and watch me suck at this. I'm Zutara Wins and Zutara Still Wins. Don't worry I don't PvP much and when I do I stink.
The guild I'm in is Brotherhood of Gods [BoG]. It's interesting.

Technically it's not an MMO...it's a Cooperative/Competative Online RPG...
*I called it an MMO once and got seriously lectured by a bunch of gamers* :cwink:

And it is indeed fun! I'll be sure to look for you..but I've only got GW and the NF extention.

Now, all 3 are indeed different games completely right?
twylight

Hmm..Here's the thing..you can buy and play each game seperately..you don't need Prophecies (I.e. what the first GW is called) to play Factions, you don't need Factions to play NightFall...you don't need Prophecies to play NightFall.
However, you can link them together i.e. make them extentions of each other.
I have Prophecies and Nightfall, but not Factions. I'm still able to take my Prophecies character to Nightfall, and vice versa, once I get to a certain point in the game.
I have Guild members who've taken their Prophecies characters all the way through Factions and Nightfall.
In this way, you can like Prophecies to Factions, Prophecies to Nightfall, Factions to Nightfall, Nightfall to Prophecies, Factions to Prophecies, in no particular order. Provided that you add it to the account you currently have instead of making it a seperate account.
So it's really quite flexible.

Is it any wonder why people dont own Factions, no because it isn't very good. IMHO Nightfall is everything Factions should have been.

Hopefully I'll get the time to install Nightfall tomorrow. But yea, having a blast. If you see me wondering about, drop me a hello-from-the-hype.
I'm new to the Guild Wars fold; I've only been playing since December with Nightfall. It's fun and most importantly it doesn't have a monthly fee! The only draw backs are that my laptop can't handle the game too well and I can't for pete's sake remember how to get a guild cape.

My problem with Guild Wars was how similar everybody looked due to the lack of clothing customization. Are the 2 newers games better at allowing you to have more freedom in that dept. I remember all I could change about my Necromancer was buying some dye and dying his outfit.

Oy there. I didn't know you played. To get a guild cape you need to join a guild, silly. But hey look up BOG [Brotherhood of Gods] or our sister guild, which I can't remember the name of right now. We always looking for people who actually log on and play :), plus everybody loves helping out with quest :D. Whisper at me if you see me around. Her name is Lunar Yue Fyodorova I've made it to HzH with her.
My Guild/Alliance is Factions.

I am seriously considering getting this game. I just finished NWN2, and am looking for my next RPG fix.
I tend to prefer solo games or games I can play with henchmen. Is this possible with this game? Is the AI pretty good with the henchmen?
I used to play EQ quite a bit, and even got my Epic (Paladin), but it took so much time to play and the obligation of performing on raids, etc. it really burned me out. That's why I've concentrated on games I can solo or play with henchmen. If GW isn't the proper candidate, can someone suggest other games out there? I've played the KOTOR I & II, NWN1-2, the Bioware games of BG 1&2, and IWD 1&2. Also played a classic Planescape: Torment.
Yes you can play with henchmen. The number of henchmen you can play with up to 8 (although you can only play with up to 4 initially). It's a good game, I'd recommend it.

If you get Guild Wars Nightfall *The newest and last campaign* each characters gains 'Heroes' as they progress through the game. Heroes are learning AI , you can set their skills, stats, and weapons however you'd like and as you move through the game they pick up on what you expect them to do.
I can take my Mesmer on certain missions and most of the higher Quests with just my Heroe warrior, and healing and protection monks.
They're definitly smarter than the Henchie AI's, and it makes being a Monk MUCH easier, because then you're not dependant on picking up groups or Henchies for every quest.

What would you recommend to get after Factions?
Prophecies, i.e. the first one. Most of the speciel events take place at Lions Arch in Prophecies and most players move their characters there after a while anyway. Its a classic and for the future, Eye of the North the extention is based off of Proph ;)
Nightfall to me is very, very boring. Takes for-ever to get anywhere. HOWEVER, you got the 'leveling' game there. Lots of people make characters in Factions because the leveling there is quicker than the other two.
A good strategy is to get Nightfall, and once your character get's to Kaineng Center, transfer over to Nightfall, pick up your heroes and then go back and finish up Factions. The XP rewards in Factions are out of this world and your heroes will level in leaps and bounds if you do a few of the higher XP reward side quests, along with the missions. :)
Nightfall does have two new classes, Paragon and Dervish. *shrugs*
I hardly ever play the special classes. I stick with my Ele, Mes and monk :)

Dunno if anyone is interested but......
If you love the Guild Wars miniatures and dream of adding to your family of diminutive companions, you'll want to know about the newest miniature: the Grawl. We'll be offering keys that allow you to acquire this little guy in July and August at local fan shows such as Comic-Con, Gen Con, and PAX (http://www.guildwars.com/events/tradeshows/pax2007/default.php). Stop by the NCsoft or ArenaNet booth at any of the shows to see if you can score a key. Quantities are limited and when they're gone, they're gone. One per account, please. Now, don't worry—if you can't make the shows, we'll be offering a chance for you to get a key later on. And European players will soon get information about upcoming local promotions that will allow you to acquire the cute little creature, as well!
Unfortunatly living in Australia restricts me from this, unless someone stops by there booth and grabs one of the free handouts they could always pm me the key code, just a thought :cwink:

How do you play in the hard mode?
Do you have to beat the game first or just create a new character?
Avangarde
07-29-2007, 04:09 AM
You have to beat the game first, that unlucks Hard Mode. HM is easy as long as you are with a balanced group that knows how to hold there builds, it's prefered that you go with your guild.

What is farming?
I've never gotten a straight answer.
twylight
08-16-2007, 05:15 PM
Hmm..Well, it's basically making a solo build that allows you to go into a more *populace* area of monsters and kill them all quickly and easily, recieving drops or items and whatnot you can sell.
I do all my Farming in Hard Mod (HM), because you get Tome drops, sometimes if you're lucky you'll stumble across and Elite Tome. ^_^
At the least, you'll get some Major rune drops, and a gold or two. *My Wisdom track wnt up by 5 in just an hour of farming*
Bergen Hot Springs in Prophecies is a popular and easy run to do on a 55 monk, and Altrumm on the Kurzick side of Factions is run a lot too. *I am SO glad the bots are gone*
However I've heard near the end game of NightFall is where all the really productive farming is done now, and I think you can farm there with an Earth Ele.

*nod nod* I have seen it :cwink:
As for the GW vs. WoW argument though...you can't even compare th two.
For me it wasn't about which one was 'better' it was about which one is 'better for me'. I don't the the time to invest in WoW before it becomes interesting. I played it for a few days but felt like I made no headway at all in the game, and people didn't really seem all that willing to chat.
In GW You can level VERY quickly, *I like instant gratification* and since players are 'confined' to towns for chatting publicly they do more of it. Sure you get the weird noobs but sometimes you meet some really cool people!
Also I find it easier to jump on and off GW. I can do a short quest in 20 minutes, get the reward *gratification thing again* and hop off to do some homework or something. With WoW it was SO totally saturating! Which...some people like, I think WoW has proven that *most* players like being totally engulfed in a different world. but to totally reap the benefit of it you need t be a higher level and in WoW that's not easily obtained. I mean >.<; It took me 6 months playing GW to get me to level 20....
You can't compare the two on specs/quests/items/crafting. it's all on the individual.
Now I could rant on into the armor types GW has and it's expansion, titles, etc..etc..but I won't ^_^[/endrant]
P.S. the most fun I had in WoW was playing a Tauren.

Word of warning though, don't accept anyone who uses chat speak because it's a symptom of stupidity and annoyance. :o Another suggestion, hold interviews for the people looking to become members, and make sure they fit with the goals you've laid out for the guild, be it farming (of any kind), PvP, PvE, doing random quests, moving through the game and helping each other. Etc. I've seen to many guilds fall apart before they began, and literally become a living hell.
Best of luck though! And I expect to see you all at the Halloween event ;)
Which *hopefully* they'll be having this year..normally you come away from it smashed out of your mind and with awesome hats.

However all the explorable areas are instanced, which is probably the biggest draw back for people who like WoW. However all the towns are..umm..whatever you call it when other player are around. It's actually quite different from WoW, you can't really compare the two.

Start at the support page (http://www.guildwars.com/support/) of Guild Wars.com. That page gives some information and also the links to NCSoft Support so that you might file a support ticket.
If I understand correctly you have your registration code, but not your login or password? It would be easiest if you were to identify the email address you were using for the login when you last played Guild Wars. Then you could simply file for a new password. Failing that, you might have to supply several best guesses at what your email was for the account at the time and wait for Support to identify the valid one.
You might also want to try and remember any of the character names you used. Tip: If you took any screenshots these will appear in the "Screens" subdirectory of the "Guild Wars" directory where the game was installed. Any character names you could provide may help Support in pin pointing your old account.

You are probably going to have to tackle that before you can retrieve your password from it. Are you using an email client like MS Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird to access an email account provided by your ISP? If so, then who is your ISP? Or is it some web-based setup like Hotmail.com?

If it's a hotmail account I would suggest signing in directly into the e-mail account via the hotmail website :)
Which is here (http://login.live.com/login.srf?wa=wsignin1.0&rpsnv=10&ct=1201202453&rver=4.5.2130.0&wp=MBI&wreply=http:%2F%2Fmail.live.com%2Fdefault.aspx&id=64855)
It says 'Windows Live ID' on it, but put in your entire e-mail address. so..for instance: hellothere@hotmail.com
Then type in your password. If you do not know your password, hit the 'forgot your password' linkie under the password box :)
Then check your e-mail

If you've already done this then I honestly have ni idea what else you can do. :/ It's insanely hard to contact people for help in hotmail >.<; At least in my experience. But they do have a help page, here:

Also be sure to check your Junk folder. :) Sometimes things get shuffled into there, mistakenly.

My other to-do lists are:
Ele Level 20 - Norn & Elite Iceforged Armor, Finish GWEN
Mesmer Level 20 - Finish Night Fall, do all of Proph, Monumental Armor
Monk Level 20 - Norn & Asura Armor
Ranger level 6 - Survivor Title, Norn Armor
Paragon - PLay for fun!
and since it took me a year to just get my Ele through all three games :/ most of my goals are a bit far off >.<;

Heh, title farming can be a real time sink sometimes. :woot:
My Warrior is 6 Hard Mode Canthan missions away from Legendary Guardian and some of the remaining missions are just flat out crazy. I did Arborstone most recently and missed masters by 3 minutes after having to repeatedly resurrect fallen comrades in the last room. :csad:
Soon, very soon, I'll be putting a "Fissure of Woe" Obsidian suit on my Legendary Survivor Paragon. 2.6 million XP on the survivor title track and climbing. I wonder I can keep that going while I reclaim the temple of war... :cwink:
twylight
02-01-2008, 03:57 PM
Actually for my titles, I finished 4 Masters missions and 3 in Factions in about 3 days, my Alliance is very helpful with Missions...my issue is that because I'm an officer in my guild, half the time I get side-tracked from my own missions/quests to help someone else. Or I log on and an hour later realize that I never moved from that spot and have been chatting in AZ or guild chat the entire time >.<;
My Guild Leader finally told me to just say 'no' to other peoples missions/quests so I can focus on my own, and then I'm training myself to not always visit in the game and to play it ;)
As for other title tracks...the ones introduced in EoTN are a bit of a grind, But it's to appease the people who've already finished all the games/done everything till GW2 ;) Almost like a 'Here! Play with this knot for a bit and leave us alone!'
None of the other title tracks like Drunkard or Sweet tooth appeal to me. Maybe if I was through all the games and I'd done everything else I'd be able to do a 'leisurely' title like that.

The Eye of the North titles aren't too bad. If you focus on any one of the reputation titles and spend the books on them they soon hit rank 10. Legendary Delver is a little different and can be boosted fairly effectively farming Snowmen. The only one that I'd say is tricky is Mastery of the North. Exploration, Vanquishing and Hard Mode Dungeon completion all bundled up in one title.
But it's to appease the people who've already finished all the games/done everything till GW2 ;) Almost like a 'Here! Play with this knot for a bit and leave us alone!'
Hardly. :woot: Titles came in with Factions and some more experimental aspects of them used in Nightfall formed a pretty strong rationale for building on them in Eye of the North (PvE skills and rank buffs etc). The Devs aren't throwing this at you to say "Here! And leave us alone! (while we build the sequel)" They're actually just responding to something that people really hooked into in Nightfall and offered more along the same lines in the interests of making a game that you can enjoy as much as possible for as long as possible.

Well, I hate to say I don't enjoy them, because I do. It just gets to be a grind after a while of levelling up in the titles, especially ones that effect skills and whatnot. I do groupd the Faction titles in their own area away from NF and EoTN in that ANet put them there so the players could impact the environment. So maybe they weren't doing it for that specific reason, but it does take up time and energy and not require them to come up with other things.
That doesn't mean they slighted in EoTN though, ;) Some of the sub quest strings are amazing. O.O But I do think to a certain extent, ANet is sort of shifting the focus to titles and tracks, the entire favor system was redo for that reason. (Granted it was to even out playing times) but the focus for titles is there.

Sure can, I use a laptop to play and it works just fine. GW can get quite addictive at times, but unlike WoW it's the sort of game you can put down for weeks or months and come back to it. It's free online so you don't have to worry about renewing any subscriptions. That and the community is quite nice, find yourself a nice guild and you are set.

Actually, the favour system change had more to do with the ongoing dissatisfaction over PvE content being accessible or not based on PvP wins and losses. By making favour title-based we now now have a system where PvE content is governed by PvE actions rather than competitive arena matches. :cwink:

Probably, but you can answer that question for yourself. Go to Guild Wars.com (http://www.guildwars.com) and try out a trial version. This will be the same as a full version, with the one limiting factor being the amount of time you get to spend playing the game.
There have also been buddy keys supplied with various Guild Wars products, so put feelers out on the Hype and maybe someone might be able to find an old buddy key to spare. Again, this is another way to access a temporary trial version.
The client software is a very small installation. It will stream content to a DAT file that would eventually expand to around 3GB if you keep playing, so keep in mind that any long load times you might experience when first getting into the game would become non-existent with an up-to-date DAT file.

I was under the impression, from everything I've read on various forums one of the main reasons was because of the uneven-ness of the favor dispersion. However I've also heard the argument that it was done to unify the game world wide and cut down on the regional wars. Either/or it doesn't really matter. I never had an issue with favor being based on PvP, but then, I enjoy watching the PvPs. ^_^

I was under the impression, from everything I've read on various forums one of the main reasons was because of the uneven-ness of the favor dispersion. However I've also heard the argument that it was done to unify the game world wide and cut down on the regional wars.
Those observations are correct actually and those circumstances were part of the reason for change. Personally, I view them as a subset of the the whole PvE-favour-governed-by-PvP problem, which your post alludes to with the issue of two territories dominating, while others hardly got a look-in. :cwink:
And..do you have an eye twitch?
No. My default frame rate is 75hz and I get around 30 FPS in-game, so screen flicker isn't bad enough to induce eye twitch problems. :woot:

Got a question
What versions of Guild Wars are there?
I am downloading Guild Wars Factions....is that simply the latest version of the game? Basically a upgrade from the basic?
twylight
02-06-2008, 07:14 PM
No, Guild Wars doesn't do versions, they did what they called 'campaigns' which are basically stand alone games that can be crossplayed with each other. In fact each one is pretty much cross-seeded with each other. Each one has 'theme' to it with the character looks reflecting that theme.
The 'original' campaign/game was Guild Wars although the players nicknamed it 'Prophecies' so you'll hear it called that or 'Proph.' That game took place in Tyria with the 'core' professions of Warrior, Elementalist, Necromancer, Monk and Ranger. It has a very European country side feel to it.
Then came Guild Wars Factions, which takes place on the continent of Cantha, and during which you chose sides or which 'Faction' you'll play for :)
In addiciton to the core professions it introduces two new and exclusive professions to that game; Assassins and Ritualists. It has a very Asian feel to it. It does have references to NPC's from Prophecies in it. This is by far the easiest and fastest one to get through, many people use it to quickly level characters.
The last campaign to be put out was Guild Wars Night Fall, it takes place in Elona and introduces in addition to the Core professions, two new and, exclusive to the game, classes Paragon and Dervish. It has a very Northeastern African feel to it. :) Heroes are also introduced in this campaign, which allows you to have your own personal set of personalized of, for lack of a better term, near NPC henchmen. However you can control their skills if you'd like :)
Most recently ANet released an extension/expansion pack titled: Guild Wars: Eye of the North You'll see this referenced as 'GWEN' or 'EOTN' Which actually expanses on the original map of Tyria, but can be used as an expansion for any of the campaigns.
Incidentally if you play this weekend there is an event for Factions you'll run into. The Canthan New Year is this weekend :)
WarBlade could probably add more :/ that's just the most basic I can boil it down to without being sidetracked into Elite Missions, Factions, Heroes, dungeons etc..etc.. :)

Also...please just shoot me..I forgot Mesmers in my list of core professions. *hugs her three forgotten Mesmer characters*
Hmm...as for ease of use, it depends...
I'd say most any of the core professions depending on what you've played in other games.
Monks can heal or smite *though most people won't want to be with you if you're a smiter*
Warriors are..well....melee...
Elementalists are mostly played as pure nukers and I'll be honest since I play as one..pretty much a mindless class if you go fire. You can nuke anything but are squishy in terms of being killed.
Rangers I am told are a ton of fun to play and in my Alliance/Guild have a HUGE following. That might be your best bet.
Necromancers are the whole curse/dead thing. They can make little minions and whatnot...
Mesmers hex, energy drain, life drain. A bit harder to play than most.
However it all depends on what you're used to.
If you're using Factions I suggest staying away from Assassin and Rit.

Ditto on twylight's comments, I also prefer Rangers with monk as secondary class. Most of the fun with rangers is inventing builds to work with different situations. I would not suggest Mesmer as a starter class, they can be very difficult to manage for a newbie but used correctly they can be one of the most powerful classes in the entire game. Really it's just a case of trial and error, you will find your own prefered character class after trying them all out and will no doubt stick with it. Add me to your friends list and if you are online while I am and am free to help I can show you around.

Not so much. To be honest you gave a pretty decent overview of the campaign basics. I'd probably get side tracked on talking about the 2 year gaps between campaigns and how some plot threads are picked up 'later on,' so you can meet certain NPC characters at several points in their lives etc.
But anyway, the focus is on Cantha, so a quick run down there might be in order. The start point is the island of Shing Jea, colloquially referred to as "n00b Island" and various other player-made titles (it's the starter area of Factions). Completing that will get a character to mainland Cantha, which can turn into a bit of a run around grind-fest through a huge maze of a city. Once out of that the story splits and you choose a side between Luxon or Kurzick (running around on a fossilized sea of jade or a petrified forest of stone trees respectively).
Bear in mind however that Factions is frequently regarded as the most flawed of the campaigns. Prophecies is a marathon of a story, and that proved too long for the taste of some (especially the PvP player base), then ArenaNet responded with Factions which went a long way in the other direction employing a meteoric level progression and a short campaign, artificially lengthened with a bit of back and forth travel. Nightfall is what I'd consider a stand alone Guild Wars campaign at it's most refined and the best Guild Wars experience on offer, although that's just my personal opinion. Eye of the North is an expansion for any of the campaigns, however it acts more of a continuation of the Prophecies campaign than the other two.
For starter purchases I'd recommend Nightfall on its own or the Guild Wars Platinum Edition which is a combined Prophecies and Eye of the North package.

Cantha can be a bit inhospitable for inexperienced melee fighters once the mainland story line kicks in. Don't try Assassin as a first character. :oldrazz: I'd be inclined to suggest Elementalist as a decent starting point. That's your basic sorcerer-type spell caster with most of their power themed after earth, air, fire and water. A basic play style consists of lurking in the back lines of your group and nuking the snot out of anything that moves. Advanced skill usage/selection lets Elementalists expand their options to front line tank duties and a whole lot more.

That is so ironic, since my first character ever was a Mesmer, I admit it was the purty armor. ^_^ But I never really thought it was all that bad. Till I got to Yak's Bend and totally stalled out. Apparently people don't 3want to group with a Mesmer...o.O
That's when I started my Ele :)
I do currently have three Mesmers though >.< One PvP, One PvE Tyrian and One PvE Nightfall.

I'd have to second that. Prophecies is by far my favorite and the way it connects with EoTN is fantastic! While I love all the games Nightfall and Proph/EoTN are by far my favorite. I only ever return to Factions now if a Friend needs help in a mission or if there's an event :)

Nice capes are a good start, but nothing beats a guild based on a unified ideology and long standing friendships. My guild (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild:Realms_Beyond) was founded as a Guild Wars extension of a wider gaming community. Some of us have been together since our Diablo and Diablo II days and the in-game friendships are what keeps the guild strong.

GG Anet? I've seen this sort of comment quite a bit in the last few days and personally I find it quite a disappointing position. ArenaNet made an exclusive minipet and based it's acquisition on luck. Add in some work getting as many Lunar Fortunes as possible and the player can improve the odds of getting a Celestial Rat.
If you had better luck and actually got the rat would you stop to think "Thanks ArenaNet!"?

Actually I do on the forums. The thing is the odds should have been based on the max amount of fortunes collected through the special quests to recieve the tokens which are then traded for the fortunes, one character can get 1 Celestial Rat. I used 6 of my characters worth of tokens which should have net me 6 rats, instead I got a big fat zero. 1 rat is all I ask for just to put aside in my collection but no, apparently that's not allowed.

Ah, so luck and chance were undesirable. You wanted certainty. The trouble there is a level of certainty was involved last year and the next thing that happened was a massive influx of gold pork. They were gold (supposedly rare) mini pets and they became fairly common quite rapidly.
And why should there be a guarantee of 6 Celestial Rats for 6 characters? That seems like an incredibly high amount. If you have the odds stacked like that then I can't see that there would be much thrill in the chase i.e. not much fun grinding for common junk. Everyone in the game would have one... You couldn't just fish it out and proudly say, "Hey guys! Look what I got!" because everyone else in the district would go, "Yeah, me too!"

My only issue was the Mini Pigs, because I'd grown accustom to giving them away for free to the newer players who didn't have any mini pets and who weren't at the event last year, or regular players who missed it. It was disheartening to see a major hoardfest with the lil piggies :(

Guild Wars isn't Starcraft. The weekly patching suggests that minor updates will continue for some time to come. Once Guild Wars 2 comes out I would expect content updates for Guild Wars to shrink to minimal levels, but I do believe that there will be at least some small amount evolution in the game beyond the release of the sequel.

And then the Bonus Mission Pack came out.
ArenaNet have occasionally said things or done things, then changed their minds and done something else entirely. They've also said that another expansion will be unlikely, but not ruled out. The truth of the matter is that the average player just doesn't know where Guild Wars will go. It's for that reason when I read something like, "there will be no more major updates," I think to myself, "No, there will probably not be much more coming, but never say 'never' because it just might happen." :cwink:

You must admit though, it would be silly for them to focus on major updates and an expansion if they are developing an entire new game that goes into beta later this year. EotN was designed to wrap up GW1 so they can start GW2. Also on the comment about the bonus mission pack, the bonus was made at the same time as EotN, Gaile stated that they wanted to give EotN and then the Hard Mode some time to kind of stretch out GW1 so people don't have to wait so long for new content (being GW2). The only things that may get a touch up here and there are the skill balances, and Anet also announced that they will continue with special events such as Wintersday, Halloween etc. Like I said, Anet said that there will be no more major updates as far as GW1 goes.

I would not admit that, no. It's well known that ArenaNet have been developing multiple titles concurrently, e.g. concept art getting churned out for Nightfall while quests get hooked up for Factions etc. The Making of Nightfall DVD has a bit of information on the development structure and is worth a look if you get the chance.
EotN was designed to wrap up GW1 so they can start GW2. Also on the comment about the bonus mission pack, the bonus was made at the same time as EotN,
Agreed on Eye of the North being designed (or redesigned - see Utopia (http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Guild_Wars_Utopia)) to wrap up plot threads in Guild Wars, however the start of the Guild Wars 2 project was actually quite some time ago. The same theory of overlapping development can be applied to the Bonus Mission Pack against Eye of the North as well.

Here's the thing, originally GW was going to have 2 add-on's released every year for the next few years, that was there grand plan, however GW had evolved into a somewhat problematic game for them. Certain features of the game ended up becoming a nightmare for the dev team and figured the only thing to do was learn from there mistakes and rebuild from scratch for a new game. This is how they came up with EotN, is would tie up any loose ends and set the scene for there new game GW2. As I stated previously, Gaile Gray announced that GW will no longer recieve anymore major updates as they were finished with GW1, however they were not going to leave GW players out in the cold, Gaile stated that the first game would continue to run on their servers after GW2 goes live for quite some time, but would not recieve anymore new content.
I hear you on the point of overlapping development but isn't exactly true. You see, the only time Anet overlapped future material with current was when the Sorrow's Furnace update came out and when they brought in Hard Mode for Prophecies and Factions. Everything else related to future expansions was already designed during the development of the title, for example, the elite missions (Warren and The Deep) of Factions, Domain of Anguish for Nightfall, and Hard Mode for Nightfall and EotN, but was held on to and released later to all the players so they didn't rush through everything all at once and then complain later why there is no new content. I can remember on the boards the stir it created when Gaile made the announcement that there no longer be anymore major updates. People started to complain that GW would die, but I think after the realisation that a whole new game was on the horizon and they have the incentive to title farm for some unlockables people have let it slide.

That's often the trick with Guild Wars. Much of the "fun factor" is in being with a group of people inside the game who's interests and values are compatible so that the in-game companionship adds to the playing experience. Once you're in a guild that suits you the game can really shine. :yay:

When you log in you have the option to create a PvP (Player vs. Player) character. The PvP character will start in the Battle Isles and be at level 20 right from character creation. It will also have access to all of the equipment unlocks that you might have gained from your PvE playing experience.
Alternately, you can keep going with that PvE character and get it from level 19 to level 20 instead. The character will need to get to a port city, which I believe in your case is Lion's Arch. Once there, open your map "M" and look for the ship icon on it. Click that and select The Great Temple of Balthazar.
At the temple you'll be able to access a testing area called The Isle of the Nameless and a few other features. You'll soon find some instructional content to unlock access to various PvP challenges...

So, it's only rank 3 at the moment? Well you're in luck, seeing as this coming weekend is the title bonus weekend with double reputation! :woot:
I'm hoping to get a couple of rank 9 titles (Vanguard and Delver) on my Warrior significantly advanced or maxed out myself. I have a Monk at Heart of the Shiverpeaks too, so maybe she's in line for a Delver growth spurt. :yay:

Actually the new Anti-Gold Seller Measures hindered me a bit >.<;
This part:
To combat a growing problem with account fraud, newly created accounts are now restricted from trading with other players within the first 24 hours after account creation. Please see today’s Dev Update for more information on this change.
A friend of mine wanted to play GW to try it out, she picked NF, however you can't proceed in NF without certain quests and since I had the quest items, *as an officer, I try to keep some for NF around for the players just starting out there* I tried to give them to her and....no go.
It was VERY frustrating >.<;; Especially getting that stupid Chunk of Drake Flesh.

The Feast of Bokka quest is not part of the primary quest chain, so that should not have presented any impediment to the progress of the story.

Go to the guildwarsguru.com/forum and head to the bottom section where they talk about arts and media, people have threads relating to making gw movies.

That about sums up my experience of Guild Wars lately too. After completing the Legendary Vanquisher title a few weeks ago on my main I've felt my Guild Wars 'career' with that character was practically complete. If I keep up the pressure I would max out a faction title before long, but for the moment I'm more interested in turning my attention to a couple of other endeavours.
Borderlands (http://www.borderlandsthegame.com/) being one of them. :yay:
