Do prefer the pic with the pupils (first released) or without (official site)?

No pupils:

I honestly don't care. I guess when the trailer comes out online we can take a look at the stills to see what they went with...of course it could still be changed. I really liked both pics.

Edit: They eyelashes are gone on the "official site" pic too.

I'm curious so I sent a message to Doug Jones and Tim Story and I'll also ask Doug on the 28th at the ArcLight. I'm pretty sure the effects are not even close to being done so it could go either way.

Do we have the option of "I couldn't care less"? I think SS looks incredible with or without the pupils.

AD, you're more likely to get an answer on the 28th than you will by email right now. Dougie just got home on Monday and is probably still winding down from the shoot plus with Christmas in a few days, he's probably really busy with that. From what I understand, he also has the Hellboy 2 script to go through as well. Have fun on the 28th and you better bring some Kleenex with you.

The image with no pupils is much more closer to how he looks in the comics.

With pupils, he looks too human.

Eyes show emotion but Galactus took all emotion out of the Silver Surfer so with no pupils, you get no emotion.

Without, it gives the surfer a more alien feel and makes him look more bad ass. You get emotions from the brow not the pupils. Besides, pupils make him seem to be from earth.

No question, the one without pupils is more faithful to the original design and gives him the detached, alien look that's key to his character.

I hope they at least start without the pupils and then he could gain them when he defies Galactus, or some other key point at which his character becomes more "human" (it could be cool if they tie it in to Alicia).

When we get the trailer online, we should be able to get a screen-cap when he's looking at Johnny and see what they look like there.

The pupils allow for a more menacing look, actually they along with the positioning of the eyelids and possibly lashes convey a lot of emotion.

I think the eyelids should go though as that strikes the correct balance with the comic book design that Kirby did I think.

As I've mentioned, I very much prefer the one without pupils. And if we want to get down to it, I look a Surfer with less emotion on his face. Makes him seem more alien. More in control. More dangerous.

I still don't understand where Avi Arad is coming from saying he's a very emotional character. He didn't start out that way.

He was much more detached. And again as I've said, he was the semi-divine deity; a very strong symbol without Stan Lee's and John Buscema's retro origin of him later. Which I liked on it's own but that's not how he started out. Jack Kirby wasn't even sure if what kind of being he was but he wasn't emotional. He was much more noble.

Back to point......no pupils. Less is more.

Perhaps it would be. But again, I point out that was a retro-origin they gave him after the fact. He didn't start out that way. He was an alien and Jack Kirby (who created him) wasn't even sure he had emotions. I hear Jack was'nt exactly thrilled with the direction they took with him.

His face registered much more nobility and was burdened less with the frail human emotions.

Since this as a FF movie I think it fair the character start out the way it did in the FF mag.

I saw NATM tonight and manged to see the trailer 2 more times...

The Surfer's pupils are very noticable as he peers back at the Torch when their chase goes through the Holland tunnel. They looked (to me) like squarish white outlines in otherwise black eyes. Very creepy. Very alien.
Maybe his eyes take on a number of various appearances depending on factors like light and dark.

I think they're gonna strike a good balance. We'll see more expressive eyes in some scenes and glowing white orbs in others.
Just my guess.

Guys surely they've been toying with the Silver Surfer's look on film and testing different looks for months now. Don't think they've not gonna try everything to make him look the best. Things look different on screen and on paper and you don't realize it till you actually see it so if he has pupils or not...it's what they though looked the best and they're professionals who've also been doing this work for years.

Also they haven't started post production yet except the work they finished for the trailer...and even those f/x are not done. They could finish all post production and go back and make the eyes all silver relatively fast so it's no biggie.

Does anyone have a link pointing the way to that Youtube bootleg? I can't seem to find it. Maybe the studio ordered it pulled.

I'd like to see it yet I don't care to see that movie just for that. I also don't care putting anymore money in Ben Stiller's pockets. Sour grapes or not (and my wife says I'm silly for thinking this) but he gets to hang out with all his childhood heroes (and they're mine too) William Shatner, Charles Napier, and whatnot and I don't feel he's that deserving of it.

But I digress,...does anyone know where the trailer is? Thanks.

The bootleg isn't worth it.
Just pay to see something you want to go see and note the times for NATM. Tell an usher/ticket-taker/manager/whatever that you've paid to see (whatever) but would they mind if you stepped into NATM for a moment just to see the FF2 trailer cause you's so excited for it!! :woot:
They've got your money already, and wanting to see a trailer just means they can count on getting your cash again in a few months. It also wouldn't hurt if you ask while holding a box of their obscenely-priced popcorn, since that's where they really make their money.
I guarantee: Unless you somehow happen to encounter a "soup nazi" manager or usher, they will be glad to say "sure, pal, go ahead."
Now they might think "Jeez, there goes a geek!" But who cares?

That's exactly how I saw the FF2 trailer 3 extra times already, twice whilst taking my kids to see Charlotte's Web and once Friday morning just by asking.
I wouldn't have even seen it those 2 additional times with NATM if my little boy hadn't wanted to see that movie. :yay:

Well as they say the eyes are the windows to your soul so in a way i can understand why they've given him pupils. No pupils at all look great in the comics but maybe on screen -in live action- they may come off as being too cold. I dunno. I'm still undecided about this since i've not been able to see the trailer in detail.

If they do show some pupils then i'd prefer no eyelashes. I mean why would SS have hair on the ends of eyes but nowhere else on his body?:p

I'm thinking the Silver Surfer is already pretty cold since he just dumps Johnny's body to let it fall back down to Earth thousands of feet in the air. As someone else suggested, no pupils to begin with and then give him pupils when he changes to a good guy.

When I was watching the trailer, I didn't care about the pupils. I saw the Silver Surfer in action. A being who is capable of navigating his way through traffic or any other expanse he so wishes. A being who moves with the fluid grace through the air and objects alike that Olympic gold medalists would envy. A being who can fly past the mesosphere with nary a notice and extinguish the Human Torch's flames with the ease of someone picking up a cup of coffee, drinking from it and placing it back down onto its table. To be frank, I saw everything I needed to see. From a visual standpoint, Story nailed the look and demeanor in every aspect in that one sequence. The trailer for the attempt at a Silver Surfer solo film now looks like a grain of salt in comparison to what this movie is bringing to the forefront. Even a screen-to-screen comparison makes Story's Surfer look like he just stepped out of the pages from whence the concept was born. I don't care about his pupils, his likeness to the T-1000, or any other paltry gripe. If this is still an incomplete teaser I'm quite certain my brain would explode from the sheer awesomeness. Now all we need is a storyline that sounds intriguing, a Galactus made of the same faithful mold and we're all set.
