Any idea who will be writing the Ghost Rider movie novelization?
Any ideas as to who you would like to see write it?
Cheers,
Abe. :ghost:

I personally cant see that happening. Maybe they'll do a comic adaptation but not a novel.

What? All the other movies had a novel written, adapted from the movie? Sheesh, I had no idea. I've never seen one around before.

I guess a GR one is possible in that case.

Yeah, FF, Elektra, Daredevil, X-Men, X2, Spider-man, Spider-man 2, Hulk, and all of the Blade movies ALL had novels

Well, I have no idea who should write it but this is yet another GR item that I'm going to have to buy... though I'm not sure how into the novels I am. Are the rest of them good reads?

Elektra Kirigi,
Blade 2 actually did not have a novel produced, however there was a mini trade comic book produced. Believe me, I've looked far and wide for a Blade 2 novel, and it's not to be found.
That being written, if one does exist and you can provide proof, please let me know as I'd LOVE to get my hands on a copy. :)
Peter David has written a few Marvel comic book novels, such as the two Spider-Man novels (brilliant), Hulk, and Fantastic Four. FF was a bit of a letdown, but his Hulk novel is superb.
There was also Daredevil, Elektra, X-Men, X-Men 2, and The Punisher.
Basically once a comic book movie is in the works, I hunt down the novelisation.
I'm not too sure who would be suitable to write the GR novelisation... Didn't Quesada say Stephen King was doing some work for Marvel though? Oh baby! :)
Abe.

Actually Blade II does NOT have a novelization. It's been my little hobby to get all the Marvel movie novels, and after I couldn't find ANYTHING on Blade II, I actually wrote the author of the first Blade novel (Mel Odom who has his email address listed in the About the Author snippet). He was kind enough to write me back and let me know that he was planning on writing the novelization, but the deal was never finalized. When the powers that be finally decided that they DID want a novelization, it was determined that they didn't have time enough to get it written and distributed to coincide with the release of the movie.

Anyway, since I had this little bit of inside info, thought I'd let you know.

murdock matt, thanks! i too have read the little write-up about mel odom in the first blade novelisation, and wondered if his email address still worked.
i might just send him something, because i had so much fun reading his work on that novel. whew! :)
now if marvel could get HIM to write the GR novel.......
cheers.

THE 'PROLOUGE' ACT.

Before the main action begins, Blaze's past set in 1980.

We see Caretaker become a Ghost Rider. He defies the devil, so expect- probably- a cool conflict between the two later on in the film.

The opening scene deals all with the contract of San Venganza- which has become a creepy ghost town due to Memphistoles collecting everyone's soul and using Caretaker to carry this out. In the end, however, Caretaker does not hand the contract to the devil because it will be too dangerous in his possession- so he escapes with it. Taking us to opening of the film.

Tragedy of San Venganza:Metting an inscrutable old man called Caretaker, John Blaze learns about the tragedy of San Venganza. Mepthistopheles arrived in this town 150 years agom and corrupted its inhabitants by offering them great wealth in exchange for their souls. Sending in his Ghost Rider, Mepthistopheles orderd him to use his powers to collect the souls onto a scroll- the Covenant of San Vnganza.

The scene has an eerie, western, adventure feel to it. So far, MSJ definitely has done a great job with the screenplay.

THE DEAL:

Roxanne's father is the owner of the carnival. He does not approve of Johnny and Roxanne's relationship. J&R agree to run away together.

Johnny learns about his father's cancer and this holds him back from running away.

The cancer is caused from smoking too many cigarettes...

M: Of course the worst part with cancer is the time it takes. The toll on loved ones. Lives are altered. Plans are thrown off course... I'm moved by your devotion, Johnny. What if I can help your father?

Johnny takes the deal. His Dad will live, be okay. And he can run off with Roxane- or so he hopes...

SOUNDTRACK:

Note: I do not know if this was added by the writer or was mentioned in the screenplay:

The following text appears in the huge stunt scene in the TV spots and trailers (I believe):

- "High decibel SOUTHERN ROCK cranked from the speedway's blaring public adress system."

So, the answer the long asked question (possibly)- The GR soundtrack might be Southern Rock.

Okay, my friend found the novel before I did. I'm buying mine tonight.

He read it and everything, he said it was really good. But there may be some corny lines in the movie if they're said wrong. That was one thing. But the big thing we're worried about is Ghost Rider in the movie.

He said he doesn't show up until page 150 or so. And there's only 272 pages in the book.

So how long is the movie, and is Ghost Rider really going to show up really late in the movie?:(

He said that the Hidden (Wallow, Abigor, and Gressil) were all defeated by Ghost Rider throwing his chain into them and they blow up. And the deaths were:

Gressil (trainstation)
Abigor (building top)
Wallow (pond/river)

Then he said that Ghost Rider didn't seem to have a big problem defeating them.

This kind of scares me. But atleast he thinks the story is really good.

MSJ said (I believe) that Johnny's first transformation is about an hour into the film didn't he?

I wouldn't worry. It takes a while to explain things in writing..especially in screenplays and novels, believe me.

o and blackheart, I told u wrong. I just went back and saw that wallow dies by hellfire in the river. It gets so hot, and wallow gets stuck under when GR transforms. It burns him to death. and GR shows up on page 135.

Tempest19

Well, for almost every hero it takes a while for them to show up in their hero form in their origin movie. So, an hour in? No biggie. That's setting everything up and making the action itself have a lot more impact. That's why, in my opinion, an action movie is only as good as it's story. The story for GR, in my opinion, is great.

As long as the movie is 2 hours or more, i have no problem with him showing up first 1 hour in

AVEITWITHJAMON

It will take time to set up the storyline, etc. Batman didnt show up in BB until an hour in, Spidey didnt show up in SM1 until about 30-40 mins in, Hulk didnt show up until 45 mins in in Hulk. So i wouldnt worry about it.

in most cases the novels AREbased on earlier script versions thats why they someime enclude parts not in the movie said scenes were scrapped or rewritten after the book went to press

Some of the dialouge will hopefully be changed or edited out. Overall the story was GREAT!!!! It was just a couple of one liners that made me cringe, such as "I'm going to get you Johnny Blaze!", etc.

But, one thing that I found- isn't there a fight with a helicopter on a rooftop? I either forgot about reading that or that wasn't even in the book...

It's based on an earlier version of the script. So no, it wasn't in there. A piece from that scene is in the trailer though, at the end.

The part of Ghost Rider riding on top of the arch of the bridge wasn't in the novel, and when he road into the water, instead of flipping the cops off he smiled. But those have changed, thank goodness.

Just found this pretty good review of the novel:
http://www.bookgasm.com/reviews/thrillers/ghost-rider/

While all signs indicate the movie may be a stinker, the GHOST RIDER novelization is anything but. Quick and painless, Greg Cox’s adaptation of Mark Steven Johnson’s screenplay revs things up from the start and moves as fast as its hero’s Satanic motorcycle.

Sticking fairly close to the origin outlaid by the comics, Ghost Rider comes to be when stunt cyclist Johnny Blaze sells his soul to the devil in exchange for his father (rather than father figure) being rid of disease. Mephistopheles does just that, then pulls a fast one by having the elder Blaze expire in a nasty crash. A crafty one, that devil!

A deal’s a deal, meaning that when night falls, Blaze is putty in Satan’s hands and his head becomes a flaming skull. Making this most inconvenient is the return of the one true love of his life, TV reporter Roxanne Simpson. Long ago Blaze had to leave her in order to save her; now he may have to save her all over again, as Ghost Rider is dogged by a supernatural enemy appropriately named Blackheart and his team of elemental warriors.

Having already penned several other genre novelizations, Cox knows how this game works: in speed. Waste no time setting up the plot, sustain that momentum and most transgressions of narrative can be forgiven. Those include Simpson’s unrealistic on-air dialogue (which movies and TV never get right) and a rather predictable, routine finale (likely more the fault of Johnson than Cox).

With Ghost Rider such a visual-dependent character, the jury was out on whether a pure-text treatment could do him justice. Cox delivers, with an enjoyable fantasy-laden adventure of demons and dirt bikes. –Rod Lott

About the only thing that i didn't much care for was Latino actress Eva Mendes getting the role of Johnny Blaze's lover Roxanne Simpson- for the same reason I opposed African American actor Michael Clarke Duncan being cast as Daredevil's nemesis the Kingpin( in the original comic, the Kingpin was clearly cast as white) and Jessica Alba getting the role of Susan Storm Richards in the movie version of "The Fantastic Four" ( Ms Alba is of course Latino as well. This is NOT a matter of racism( I myself am black- I just feel that the movie version of a comic book character should stay as faithful to the original as possible!)

eh. yer right about alba n mendes,ESPECIALLY alba. even though shes hot n a good actress, the invisible woman is just like so WHITE in the comics, shes like wonder bread white. n they tried to make it like she was white with the contacts n the hair, and also human torch was actually white. michael clark duncan as the kingpin was alright with me though. made kingpin GANGTA. he coulda been bigger though, like more kingpin size.
