I'm actually starting to warm up to this Television show from what I've seen.

I love the concept, but the idea of a little girl and superheroism as opposed to Decepticon fighting doesn't sit well for me. And unlike the film, this won't be relying on SFX to allure audiences with nostalgia. It'll be relying on enough resemblance to the original animation to appeal to a smaller-scale audience.

It has room for greatness...I'm just not convinced there's a lot of room to begin with.

Sari's interaction is nothing like what's been done in the past three shows - no annoying kid telling robots what to do, Autobots looking to her to learn about Earth, she is also a bit of an outcast.

More like Teen Titans, judging by the clips.

Probably, considering the fact that most of the Autobots don't appear to be using firearms - Prime's got an ax, Prowl uses ninja stars, Bulkhead has a wrecking ball, Grimlock his sword, etc. Ratchet appears to have some kind of forearm blasters, but it's hard to tell what he's using for ammo. But that's no worse than G1, where you never saw ANYONE die in the TV series (at least pre-animated movie - and to all you G1 sticklers, don't say Skyfire when you know damn well they dug him up alive and well the next episode :oldrazz: ).

Jazz and Arcee are going to be recuring characters, as are the Dinobots. They'll each have at least one episode centered on them but otherwise not be around over much. And before you start crying G1 did the same with it's characters.

well to be honest, i seem to like prime's toy more than his animation. the toy looks hot! his animation, especially when his face is covered by the faceplate, looks like *ahem* a cow. does the faceplate retract--the way it does in the movie--to show his face in the cartoon?reversely, what if the series does take off in such a way that it would affect the production of the movie sequel? just fodder for the imagination...
The bodies on both of them are fine, but why are we getting Jay Leno and cow heads on our transforming friends? TF are my only friends and it pisses me of for them to have dumb old faces and Prowl has "old man in sports car" glasses on.

I think most of the figures still coming are actually from the game, or just flat-out pad-out repaints: Cliffjumper (red '08 BB repaint), Camshaft, Landmine, Stockade, the G1-colors repaint of Optimus (Voyager class), and the diorama multi-pack sets that come with little figurines of the human characters.

Hmm. Kaye's "Roll out!" battle cry sounds different than I would have expected, but for a young Optimus, I can dig it.

Something else I noticed that I like: Megatron once again being twice as big as Optimus. Originally I didn't cotton to that when they started doing that in Armada (or the G2 toyline if you really wanna go back), but somehow now it just works for me.

Well I think there might be a reason for it. Megs and Prime are both getting two toys (for the first seasons assortments). One is their respective Cybertronian forms the other their earth forms. Now both of Megs forms are voyagers (IIRC). But Prime Cybertronian truck form is a deluxe, while his earth mode fire truck is a voyager. You can tell the difference, earth form Prime has the traditional dual chest windows. While Cybertronian form Prime has a windsheild chest sort of like G1 Kup's. So if the animators conveyed the size differences of a deluxe and voyager in the Cybertronian forms of Prime and Megs in the animation models. Prime would be a lot smaller than Megs.

David Kaye is Optimus, and Grimlock. Megatron is Corey Burton (also Ratchet and Shockwave). You might know him as the voices of G1 Alpha Trion/Brawn/Shockwave/Sunstreaker/Wideload/Spike Witwicky/Dion/Vector Sigma.

weird indeed, and he's the only one who has those lips among the characters there. it might be a minor detail to some, but didn't the creators say they want the faceplate to slide on and off so they could enable OP to have more expression? prowl certainly has much better drawn pair of kissers. ;) i don't know if other people mind about it though.

Not in this show he's not. Optimus is a nobody mining ship captain. And from the looks of it his crew is BB, Bulkhead, Prowl, and Ratchet. With others like Jazz and Arcee coming along from Cybertron later. And the Dinonots being built on earth.

An interesting side note from the reviewer, though...
There were also quite a few nods to the old fans - I haven't seen the clips on YouTube so I don't know what has been shown before, but the show actually starts with Optimus Prime looking at some archive clips from the war that ended a few hundred years ago - clips that are taken straight from the original G1 cartoon! And Ratchet is said to have taken part of that war, which poses the question if this is the original Ratchet, or just someone who shares the name.

I don't think this is connected to G1 continuity, though. "Armada" and "Cybertron" also had references to the original G1 cartoon, IIRC (mostly 'Easter eggs') - IMO they're probably pulling a "Generation 2" and culling clips from the first couple background shots of "More Than Meets The Eye" Part 1 and/or the '86 animated movie.

Exactly. Soundwave needs a sonic weapon. I hated the look of this cartoon when I saw the initial drawings but now that I've seen most of the toys it's looking pretty badass in it's non-movie, non-realistic, hyper-stylized way. I'm totally stoked that Soundwave is a Scion xB like my ride :) I just hope they get his voice right.

He will. Go to CN website and read the episode synopses they have up. There is one (ep.17) that introduces the Autobot elite guard. Jazz could be one of them. I heavily suspect that said Elite guard is led by Ultra Magnus. And whose membership will be the other 'bots mentioned as slated to appear (Arcee, Jazz, and Blurr). There is also the possibility that Jazz could be the Autobot traitor from ep. 25, Autoboot camp. But again it could be any of the three.

Where did you get all that info from?Not to sound snobby but one cant really trust anything posted on Wiki.

To tell the truth there's very little I dont know about Transformers comics.With the exception of some of the U.K. Marvel comics,the 2 last issues from the Blackthorn publishing comic run and some of the Botcon excl. comics I owen ever single issue of TF ever printed.

When I first clanced at that pic it looked very much like the Dreamwave Energon comics style and the character looked very much like one or the Autobot elders in that book.But all of the elders but one were all painted gold so I did some research on some of the Botcon elc. comics and came across this.....

Well from what I grathered I dont think we'll be seeing him in any new stories.This character and the story he was part of was part of a serries of Botcon exclusive comics produced by 3H productions that began being released at Botcon in 2001.

3H productions lost the license to do the Botcon comis after an erratic publication schedule.Althou IDW has been reprinting some of the Botcon book they have yet to release any of the books done by 3H.....at least not as far as I know and I have been trying to keep track of which reprints are coming out of IDW comics.



H has since gone out of buisness.Ether way the character was killed in the story.

Captain Fanzone is not an AUTOBOT, but a police detective whose car was scanned to become the vehicle mode for BUMBLEBEE. He’s a harried, overworked, but basically good and honest cop, albeit one whose day is perpetually ruined by one of those “giant walking toasters” (especially BUMBLEBEE, who has the audacity to run around looking like his car). A ludite at heart with old-fashioned tastes for vinyl records, old cars and analogue everything), Fanzone prefers the stairs to the elevator, walking to the people-mover, talking face-to-face over IM-ing, etc. Technology constantly confounds him, everything from the snack machine to the forever malfunctioning Sumdac Security Drones he’s forced to work with.

I'm feeling Bumblebee, Ratchet, and Starscream. Optimus...will take some getting used to. I don't see why they're hiding Megatron's visage at this point, though I'm going both ways when it comes to this interpretation of him.

No Sentinal Prime is not a exclusive character to the Animated serries.Althou not much was done with the character untill very recently.

The first time the character was mentiom was rhe very late 80's in the G1 Marvel Comics but his roll was very simple.If I remember correctly he was just one of many past Prime's seen standing in a group flashback scene.

The next time he mention [if I'm right] was in Dreamwave's War Within comic ,first issue and again what you see is his dead body and his name is used a few times in the book.They also had a small bio on Sentinal Prime in the "More then meets the eye's" profile's book in the knowen Prime's section.

The only time that the character got any story time and really got fleshed out was in IDW's Megatron:Origin's 4 issue mini set in Cybertron's early days ,that just wraped up a month or two ago.We got to see the character in command and in battle.And I'm not sure if he's dead.It looked like he died fighting Megatron but since it wasnt really said its hard to tell.

The new videos look all right, but still the show is going to have overcome its bad character designs with insane storytelling, something that could have been avoided with non-exaggerated designs, and is also incredibly not likely to happen.

I just hope they don't take advantage of the design and channel it's airing on and go overboard with dialogue and scenarios that will mainy appeal to youngsters (something that seems very possible to happen).

I just wish they would make a series like G1 again. No one argues with the assertion that the G1 cartoon series was the best there was, so it would be logical to follow in vein of that with future series. Oh well, Transformers Animated will definately be better than nothing.

Looking forward to December 26th to see how it turns out.

I wouldn't go so far as to say G1 is on the same low as RID or A/E/C, but yeah, BW is the better show, IMO.

That having been said, I'm so pleased to finally see an Ultra Magnus that does not in any outward way, shape or form resemble a white version of Optimus, for once. I like the rest too, I just wish we could see alt-modes for Jazz and Swoop and Sentinel Prime's full robot mode.

And not very well disguised, then, either, which was part of the fun (and part of the whole point) of the Transformers brand...at least the Maximals (up until they went all Transmetal) could have blended in even in your nearest zoo. The original G1 Predacons? Pfft. They're giant, armor-plated, and bright orange. Yeah, ya can't tell THAT's a Robot In Disguise. :whatever: Plus, too many of them were portrayed as having the IQs of four-year-olds in the G1 cartoon (IMO the Marvel comic deserves some credit for trying to make Grimlock and Ratbat into semi-interesting characters).

And the toys are made better, too - if you should happen to pop a limb off, you can just snap it back on; I remember being absolutely crushed when I accidentally took out Optimus Prime's right arm less than a week after I got him for Christmas back in '84. I also favor figures that are at least 75 to 80% show-accurate, which, amazingly, even the NEW show has, whereas G1 was about 50% AT BEST, and that's just the first wave of die-cast vehicles/weapons/etc.

Yes it was a very poor disguise but thats also a very funny thing to me.....most fans put the Dinobots,Insecticon and the G1 Predacon at the top of their favorites list and none of them could not be disguised at all.

What I'm saying is, it shouldn't be a show where it's hard for anyone but small children to get anything out of it. Ok, I guess I was mistaken when I said no one argues with that assertion :P Admittedly, I haven't seen much of Beast Wars, though it looked really good from what I did see of it. Anyway, I'd still immensely enjoy a series akin to G1 as opposed to something with a new spin.


One thing I'm extremely looking forward to with this show is the toyline. The art style in the show is growing on me, but it fits perfectly with the toys. I absolutely love it, and am royally ticked that Hasbro decided to delay the toy launch for this series until August of '08. Oh well, I guess it gives me more time to catch up with the movie Transformers. Still though, I'd go so far as to say the Transformers Animated toys have the potential to go right up there with the Classic Series as my favorite line.

it's so funny that the vehicle modes of the bots look so bulky and intimidating, but when they transform into robot mode, the bot modes just don't match the alt-modes. ultra magnus for example!

I saw the episodes of Beast Wars were G1 Starscream came back and some of the TF went aboard where the autobots laid dormant.
I did enjoy them episodes.

IF you can get used to the designs, it's actually not that bad. Good story and such, and the voices are good. Megatron is pretty well done. I'd give it a 7/10-ish.

Wow. I freaking loved it. I'm very surprised, that's for sure. It wasn't as corny or childish as I was expecting, the voices were all well-done, and the art style fits the tone of everything perfectly. I also like how the autobots started off with humble beginnings, and are now superheroes in Detroid.

And Starscream is a total bad-arse! Very awesome indeed.

Sari wasn't as bad as I was expecting either.

So yeah, I'll definately be watching it from now on. Awesome!

Maybe it will grow on you guys more?
